You know what…. I am up to my eyeballs in getting this stuff done… for you guys. I will come back and answer your questions more completely when I have more time. If you think I made money on this thing, think again. The only money I put in my pocket was the $200 per race that I got paid for keeping the website, points, entries, admin duties, etc. The rest paid for the Race Director, Tech Director, and only the absolute hard costs (web hosting, conference calls, etc) that I use. I don’t even pay for my print cartridges and stuff from that money. All of rest, and the MG rebate money went into the banquet. I heard nice reports about the venue, meal, awards. I will give you a breakdown, like I said, when the rest of this is done.

There were rules last year. and there will be rules this year. Yes, they should have been done long ago, I will be the first to admit that. I am not the one that was working on them until recently, so I can only tell you that I am now.
There are reasons that we can’t just use the same book over, and it takes a little work to get something together. Everytime I post on here, whether it takes me 5 minutes or 10, that is time I am not spending on the rules. Ha, that makes it sound like I am making them up as I go along…. that is where the “just like last year” comes in.
They are being reformatted…. a very important procedure considering the state of SKUSA, and our not being affiliated with the new version of it. THe 125 shifter classes are not changing at all. The Junior 80 has not changed. The Novice 80 has one thing clarified, and that is that only the head gasket surface may be machined, no other machining period ( that clarification came from Dennis Zickrick). The K80 is up in the air, it will either be Box Stock Sealed or compatible to Stars – that decision obviously needs to be made immediately so this thing can be printed IN WHOLE (last year SKUSA left out all of our local options that we were promised in a book) TAG Classes by TAG USA, but the rule book spells it out, it doesn’t just say see TAGUSA. Mini Max will follow RMAX rules, but same thing, the rule book spells them out. General procedures are very similar to what we have always run, with the obvious difference that there is no National Appeal. What happens on race day ends on race day unless the Tech Director decides to take a motor for further evaluation. I am sure I missed something, but you’ll see it all soon. I am getting back to it this minute, and you won’t hear from me again until they are done.

Don’t know where you are looking….

    http://www.coloradosprintchampionship.com/rules.htm

clearly says 375 Moto 385 ICC
😳 I did have it wrong, I got the 10lb penalty for ICC mixed up.

Doug, as for the Stock weight, guess that came straight from the book last year.

Bill, you could of just called me on it, instead of making me admit to my mistake in public!

    Thanks
    Angie

    David and Nial,
Welcome to CO! I remember seeing you out at IMI for the club race, sorry I didn?t get a chance to introduce myself.

Last year with the CSC, the largest field of K80s was 10, then it dwindled to 7, then 5. I don?t know why. If any of those who dropped out would share their reasons, it could help. The Honda is not a realistic solution for the Junior 1, we need the Comer 80 class to remain as a stepping stone for the Kid Karts. The Animal, Mini Max, Shifter thing IS a problem, too. It makes sense to have the TAG or shifter options, and some, like my son, run both.

There are no K80 rules out yet, because we are trying to decide whether to go Box Stock sealed or more what we had last year that jives with Stars. I want to know who the K80 people are, and which way they will go.

I see the interest in running consistent to Stars, yet the CSC is a statewide series, a step below (hate to put it that way) those National events. In the interest of cost, and growing the class to what it should be, the Box Stock thing needs to be looked at.

    Joe,
I can understand the issue of those who may already have built motors, but the expense, reliability and upkeep of the built motors seems to be a part of our problem. Some want to come in with a stock motor, and they can’t compete. The Box Stock Sealed motor program would meaan that anyone with a built motor would have to buy a stocker sealed, unless they have one of George’s.

You are right about the K80s and Animals / Mini Maxes not working together on the track. That is why we need to get a good group of them going strong. So, if you think that Peter would run it if we went that way, we would already be up to three, possibly four. That is better than only one! I think at least 6 to commit to the serieis would make it ok for a class, of course, the more the better.

Sharon, I really do understand the frustration, and I am so sorry. I hope that you get to try one before the CSC race. Takoda will be fine with the Honda, even if he doesn’t drive it beforehand. It really drives just like the Comer. If it means anything, we will be there the Thursday before the CSC race, and Ken will help you, or anyone else for that matter, get the motor on the kart. A fifteen minute job.

    See you in May,
    Angie

    Sharon,
I am sorry that the motors haven’t made it over there yet. Guess I have to load them up and come visit you! No, really, thought that someone from the wonderful, beautiful, western slope was over here last week and was going to pick 2 up. Guess that didn’t happen so Brad is boxing them to send as we speak (right Brad?)

    – What is the percentage of factory rated performance variation within Comer 50s vs. Honda GXH50s?
What it the performance variation within ANY kart motor group? I don?t have the answer to this question, but really don?t think it is an issue. If you saw them run, you would see they are all pretty darn close ? and will allow the driver ability to shine. The Comers had a reputation for having a great variance within a group of motors.

    – Why were only host track drivers invited to participate in the ?rigorous testing??
It is not that there were certain kids ?invited?, but as Brad was the one doing the testing, he used the kids that are most often around at his track. Once you found out about the Honda, you could have called, or gone up to IMI and been a part of if, too.

    – What is the maintenance schedule for the supplied motors?
I don?t have the exact answer on this. I don?t know if there is one. I am sure every time the motors go back to IMI after a race, Brad will inspect them and do any maintenance he deems necessary. This doesn?t need to be public information. As long as the motors are kept running, and performance checked, it shouldn?t matter.

    – By what method is it determined that a motor is in need of a rebuild?
Again, Brad will be maintaining the motors, and this will be his determination on a as needed basis. And, to answer the next question that you would ask?.. I am sure that he will make sure that a newly rebuilt motor is not substantially better or worse than one of the worn ones.

    – Why was an honest question regarding the format of the testing not only not answered but sarcastically brushed aside?
I can?t answer this one, sorry. It wasn?t my place to answer the question.

    – What are the reliability test results on a motor that will have to turn 7000+ rpm when the optimum operational rpm is 4300 rpm?
I think we could ask a similar question of the Comers. Also, Brad has been in the karting business long enough that I think his judgment can be trusted.

    – If the starter cord breaks on the pre grid will the race be held up so that the CSC sponsored pit crew can make necessary repairs?
This could happen to anyone with any motor. Not likely to happen, but IF it did, every effort would be made so that the kart could be fixed and the kid make the race.

    – If a motor does expire during competition will the driver receive a finish position equal to the position they held when the motor let go?
This is a good question. I don?t have the exact answer at this time, but you can be sure that every effort would be made to make the situation fair for all involved. I mean, c?mon, stuff happens, and we can?t spell out EXACT resolution to every single ?What If?? Those kind of situations are difficult, but are a part of life, and further teach the kids about racing realities!

    – What are the brand names of the Kid Karts available without Comer motors, who are the dealers and what in the price?
Brad had found some, he will have to answer that question.

    – How many Hondas will be available at any given track and if more karts show up for practice and/or a race than motors are available, by what method are the motors distributed?
This will not happen on a race day. More than likely preregistration will be required, so that we can make sure that this doesn?t happen. And there will be extra motors available for switching out, or other special circumstances. Each track owner will have to work out the practice day situation.

    – If the carb is found to have dirt in it and damages the performance, will that heat or main be re-run?
Again, you are asking for a specific answer to a ?What If? situation. There are many factors involved here, and I can?t answer that question at this time.

    – Why were the participants in this class never officially polled for their input and ideas?
They just weren?t. We aren?t even sure who all of the participants are going to be. You haven?t registered for the CSC. This was never a class where parents get to have a vote to see what happens. What the majority of the parents want is not necessarily what is best for the class, and for the sport. I know you may not believe it, but Brad really has looked at this as a fair solution for the class.

    – Why can you find 8-10 Comer Kid Karts on a given weekend at a track practicing and only find 3 split between two classes at an actual race the same week end?
Because the race was the first race, and at IMI, where it seems some Kid Kart parents have chosen to not participate in the club races. Why those parents have made that choice, I don?t know.

    George,
You are right, I am the founder and moderator. I have only deleted posts on 2 occasions, and was very sad to have to do so. I know there are forums that are very strict, and others that are, for all intents, not moderated at all. I was hoping to keep mine somewhere in the middle, and keep things under control with a reminder here or there. I guess that is not going to happen in the world we now live in, (the world that Mr. Jansen described so well). Most of the time I see the obnoxious posts as people showing their true colors, and figure that most adults can see through the malarkey. That might be expecting too much.

I do apologize to anyone who has been hurt or offended by anything written on the forum. You can all do me a huge favor and keep it to a ?G? rating. Don?t make things so personal. There are ways of having constructive discussions without the nastiness and name calling.

I will be paying closer attention, and will moderate, delete, edit, or ban, if I have to!

Also….Remember that many people come to this site to learn about this great sport of karting that we all love (see there is something we can all agree on!) Some of these people are deciding whether or not this is for them and their family. What do we really want them to see?

Enough guys. Take it somewhere else. There is nothing constructive in this discussion. I had more to say on this, but won’t. Just stop it now, at least on my forum. I don’t like to moderate, but c’mon, this is getting way out of hand. I would like this to remain a site that can be viewed by the entire family.

    Thank you,

Sure learning some things here about the ROTAX CARB!! I can see that you guys need a seperate “lounge” area like some of the other karting forums. A place for this kind of “off topic”, but yet so very entertaining, kind of discussions.

So, what should we call it?

Gary, I can certainly appreciate the frustration. First, there are no issues being contemplated. As I see it, it is only a matter of getting the books printed and the CSC site updated. I am sorry if I ever gave you misleading or confusing information. I can tell you this, as of today, I, personally have the rule book copy?. it still needs to be compiled into a complete document to print, but the individual parts are as I posted in my previous post. If you have a concern or a specific technical question, just ask.

I am sure I missed answering each of your questions individually ? sorry about that. I will come back later to do that. Now I have to take the kids to school, get groceries, run some errands, then come back and work on the rules until I go back and get the kids after school, then I will continue to work on rules as I get snacks, do laundry, break up the fights, get dinner ready, unload the dishwasher???. I am exhausted already!!!

Have a great Day!! :sun: !

    here are the times………

Ken, I think Rob was also out of town so that would have been 2 more.

Drew, the old motors out there (legal ones) are great for practicing. The difference in performance to the Honda is not huge. I know that Brad said he would trade motor for motor if someone buys a new kart with a Comer and wants to trade. I am guessing he might give some trade in value if someone buys a kart with a used one. He mentioned that he does know of some places that will sell the Kid Karts without a motor – if you are in the market, you could check with him.

Like I said, I see the concern on having to purchase another motor. You don’t HAVE to, but most will want to. The way I see it, it is worth it to get this class back to the fun and learning situation that it should be. I think the biggest issue with this idea is that it came from Brad, and was introduced badly. I don’t think that even Brad will argue that point. But, get over it, this could be a great thing – at least try the motor before bashing it.
