ParticipantROTAX WORLD I have a rotax motor that functions well above 3100 rpm?s below that it runs twenty feet and either dies or takes along time to come up to rev?s. It then runs quite well. It also needs the air filter removed and the the hand held over the carb to start
on the first go around. I blow into the tank to prime the bowl so that shouldn?t be the problem. It will start but always has this problem. This problem is in Colorado so take into effect 5000 feet above the ponds. ???March 29, 2006 at 2:50 pm #53248Anonymous
InactiveCraig,
Every once in awhile that happens to me. It happens after the kart has sat for a while and not started.
But it could be anything:
*packing, fuel filters, carb need cleaning and blown out, filter dirty, battery, idle, etc.March 29, 2006 at 5:14 pm #53249Anonymous

When was the last time you cleaned your carb. I mean really cleaned your carb?
Carb cleaner spray just doesnt do a good job for me. I completely disassemble the carb, then use carb dip cleaner (avail from autozone) to give the carb a good soaking, then follow up with compressed air to make sure that all the little orifices get cleaned up good. Once I started cleaning the carb this way, I have not had problems anymore (that are carb related anyway).
This is really good to do before the season starts as small buildups of junk happen most when the carb is not used. I also do this about mid-season, even if I am not having problems, just to make sure it stays clean. Just make sure you tear down the carb and remove all the plastic/rubber, etc. Metal only in the dip bowl.

A clean carb is a carb that finishes and finishes happyMarch 29, 2006 at 6:20 pm #53251Doug Welch
ParticipantAnd 20 lap Mike knows all about finishing!
Sorry Mike, I couldn’t resist! 😳

ParticipantCraig,
I would also suggest that you clean and rebuild the fuel pump….the kits are only $4.95. A failing fuel pump will create many problems.March 30, 2006 at 12:09 am #53253Anonymous
InactiveCraig,
I got the answer!
Just buy a new carb at $325. 😉

ParticipantOuch! Hit a guy in the pills when he’s down 😀
FYI Doug… My carb was the only thing that didn’t let me down last year! My kart had a good going through bolt by bolt in the offseason so it’s all good for this campaign.
And you’ll all know me as “finishing 20 Mike”March 30, 2006 at 2:15 pm #53255Rodney Ebersole
ParticipantCraig, dito on cleaning the carb/insides. I don’t have any experiance with the rotax carb, yet it sounds as if the pilot jet is clogged. It is the smallest jet hole, so it is also easy to clogg and the hardest to see if it is clogged. Just use the green fuel to Tune for 5,000 feet above the ponds.

ParticipantHello all from freezing Germany…..
The carb issue could well be that the slide is not returning home to the rest position fully….this will stop any rotax engine from starting. Needing to choke it is also a sign that the venturi is “open too much” without choking. Just check the slide can go down to the home position and check you do not have the idle up too high.My rotax motor is in the UK at the moment getting sealed for European use…!
Regularly wish I could go out for a run at Grand Junction…..will be planning an attack on a race or two somewhere in Europe to keep me of fthe streets…..! !

ParticipantDonal,
How can you be on the streets if it’s freezing in Germany? I understand that the winter will last for another 6 weeks there 8)
Nice and sunny here… But you wouldn’t know what the sun looks like eh?
😀 😀

InactiveHey Donal,
Hope all is well with you and your family. We almost didn’t have a winter this year! If you make it back here this summer, you could use Roman’s Tag for Senior and he could run Masters with it. That would be fun.

ParticipantHi Donal,
Good to hear from you! If you’re living in Germany why are you sending the motor back to the UK? Can’t you just drive across the border to the factory in Austria? 😀
