ParticipantRod, Thank you. I agree with you 100%. The MiniMax, as wonderful as it may be, is just not compatible with the engines existing in the Junior 1 class.
I have one other concern….
If there was an ‘understanding’ between track owners regarding this, it would be nice to let the racers know about it. Since this is the first we have heard about it, it sure doesn’t give us much time to consider going that route ourselves. What does a MiniMax setup go for? How many of them are around the state? IF it really is going to be considered a Junior 1 motor, then I think a true test would have to be done to compare them to the other set ups. Put a top notch Junior driver in each and I think the gap between the Mini Max and the Animal would be huge. We would want to see the results of such a test even before making a decision on what to run. We certainly aren’t going to bother refreshing our Animal if these kind of changes are happening. I don’t think it is fair that the motor is thrown in, and we just have to accept it.Angie MacEwen

Participantthe MiniMax has 13.5 hp and the Animal 8 to 9 max. I don’t see where these two should be allowed to run in the same class. The MiniMax might be great, but I certainly don’t think it should be classified as a Junior 1 motor.

Are there any reasons why we can’t run Honda or even Kohler Engines in the Junior 1 class?
Don,
I don’t think adding more engine options into the Jr 1 Class is a good idea. Besides, where are the tech rules, and what would they be weighted to make them equal with the other engines. Do they even run them in competition in WKA? I think they are used more for rentals and fun karts.
Just my 2cents.

ParticipantIn trying to schedule a date, we needed to avoid a conflict with the annual ‘big meeting’ at IMI. The tentative schedule for the AIM workshop is on Saturday, February 7, at Curt’s location in Englewood (as much as I like Mike’s offer to move it to Longmont!!) The date is not quite set in stone… I will post the info as soon as it is available!!
Thanks,

ParticipantJosh, yes, there has been discussion of pursuing major, and even title sponsorship for the series. The first step is to get a good package/presentation together to approach these companies with. To do that, it would help if we had someone among us that either has some experience with this sort of marketing; has connections to any marketing firms, or knows someone in a position at a major corporation that could help us with a marketing plan. So, if you have any ideas, or know of someone that could be of help in this area, please share!

ParticipantWell, it looks to me like Sunday will be a great day….. to be AT THE TRACK! We will tape the karting event,
On that note, I thought I would share a good idea from an eRacingOutlet.com promo email. That is… we should use SPEED’s website to make sure they know how much we like seeing karting on tv, and that they should show more. SPEED has a feedback form http://www.speedtv.com/feedback/ and message boards http://insider.speedtv.com/. It looks like there have been a few threads on this in the General Discussion area. Just another chance to tell someone what you think!
Have a great weekend, any way you choose to spend it!

ParticipantJeff, I know that you will get tons of advice, and offers for more! So… I will just extend a hearty ‘Welcome to Colorado’ to you and your family! Also I would invite you to tell us a little about yourself (more like 20 questions!). Where did you move from, what brought you to Colorado, how old are your kids and what did they race before?
If you need anything, please feel free to contact me, and I will try to point you in the right direction! There are a great bunch of karters around here, and around the state.. there is always plenty of room for more at every level, from beginners to pros.

ParticipantJeff,
That is very generous of you! We would be very interested in something like that for Cole. He and Ken, and maybe me, too, would attend together.

ParticipantRoger, I agree.
And I think that is why Curt Kistler was suggesting some off season seminars and such (see Off Season Karting Functions thread)… trying to keep things constructive and positive. There are many areas that experienced karters, tuners, engine builders, etc. could help those less experienced… and get to know one another better in the process. So if anyone has knowledge that could be useful to others, or have an idea for a workshop… please contact Curt, so that we can have some fun while accomplishing something positive. It seems we have several new karters in the area, and I am sure they would enjoy and appreciate such efforts, as well.Angie :type:

To my understanding even the mycron makes a track map based on a G force sensor imput of a run preformed on track.
To me that would mean that a map from any thing other than your kart would have some kind problem?Well, for us, even without the G force and acceleration info, it at least gives a pretty close point of reference between the other info (RPMs and temps) and the place on the track.
I am hoping that Scott is going to give us more info on this, tho, and answer some of the other questions!

ParticipantRich,
Watch your email, I will send you the file. I am still working on this, too, because the map doesn ‘t look just right.Angie

ParticipantHi all,
Great Ideas Curt! On the Mychron thing….. I spoke with Scott Jessup yesterday – who is the AIMsports technical support guy – and he will do what he can to help us all learn more! If you have any questions about your MyChron, you need to call Scott (909-674-9090 or 800-718-9090 or email at [email protected]). He is very friendly and helpful. He walked me through several different things on our MyChron set up, both on the kart and on the laptop. It started with getting the screens on the Analysis software easier to read (and look cool!). Then we added a math channel for the clutch slip factor, so we could see exactly where the clutch was engaging. And then a few other things, too, including a software problem on my laptop, when it stopped responding (that was total operator error on my part!) We have the 3 Plus, but were able to download the mapping of IMI from Sam’s Mychron Gold, and overlay Cole’s laps on it! There is so much that it can do, and Scott can help you out with all of it. While I was speaking with yesterday, Scott came here, to the forum, and registered, so that he can even answer any questions that might be posted here for him. So, don’t hesitate to post a question here, or better yet, just call or email Scott for help!By the way, since he might read this, I will take this opportunity to say “Thank You” to Scott for his help and patience with me.
