I hope one of the helmet cam equipped racers will be able to post some video of the GGP.

Be careful, I might have to have a manthong entry. And it won’t be pretty…

Did anyone ruin spindles, etc by the jump? Just wondering…

It wasn’t the jump that was the problem…it was the sudden stops which bent stuff. A couple racers landed crossed-up which sent them into a dangerous slide or spin towards tires or hay bales.

I don’t know if charles had contact with someone or if he just landed sideways and clipped a tire.

To answer your question, mike, i dont think anyone bent stuff just from landing the jump.

And the point of my post was to point out that you can’t expect the safety level of a temp street course to be anywhere close to a permanent facility. I could understand your complaint if we were talking about a guard rail or telephone pole at a permanent course. Hay bales are about as good as you are gonna get at a temp course. I doubt Rock Island does it any differently.

Let’s put this another way. If YOU were in charge of course layout and safety, what would you have done differently?

As a driver, I realized that I could not wreck in a couple corners or the penalty would have been very high, the tree at the exit of one corner and the concrete curb at the chicane scared the crap out of me…therefore I only drove at about 95% through those two corners.

I am defending the safety preparations, I feel they were appropriate.

Joe, spring skiiing is notorious for large herds of snow snakes. You didn’t ‘catch an edge’, you were most likely bitten by one of those spring time snow serpents. This was not your fault. (I’ve got a long list of snow serpent crashes).

Dang Charles! Witnesses said your kart flipped about 8 times. It’s great to hear that you are in one piece. Heal up and we hope to see you back in action soon.

This was a STREET race, not a racing facility with plenty of runoff. Everyone knew going in that this includes light poles, trees, and concrete. I loved the course and had a blast driving it.

    Graeme,

Here is the sprocket guard I bought: http://www.fastech-racing.com/home.php?cat=217 I love it and it has already paid for itself by saving my butt several times during my ummmm ‘off road exploits.’

Rusty, I faxed in my entry and left a message for Jay requesting info about a pit spot. Last year I waited until Saturday morning to register and ended up pitting in the dirt. I was hoping to avoid the dirt this year. Will I just be assigned my spot on Saturday morning at the gate?

Looking forward to a great weekend. Thanks for all of your hard work.

Jansen was on the box? Maybe there’s still hope for me. I figured it was a typo or Jansen swapped his transponder with someone else.

Mike, your new tiny head must be more aerodynamic.

I was going through karting withdrawal while the site was down. And NO Rick, not EVERYONE has played with Bhole’s monkey butt. What you do on your time is your business. I do support your right to monkey diversity, however.

I’ll be there as long as Rusty promises it won’t rain. Since I only got about 10 laps on my new tires at IMI last week before everything BLEW UP, I’ll have fresh rubber AND a fresh motor.

I’ll trade you one lightly used Dominator HardKart paperweight for your lightly used Motori paperweight.

I too remember this coming up at the preseason meeting, I figured since we hadn’t heard anything that the subject of running a different head in our rocky mountain region had been dropped. I heard some statements/rumors that the motor was unfair as run (currently) and thus the need for the different head to bring it in line with the other tag motors. I watched the tag race closely yesterday, Dale wasnt running away from Zippy, they were quite evenly matched going down the straight.

I’m sure there is some empirical data floating around begging to be shared. Was this an altitude problem that made the motori ‘unfair’?
