I heard it was like driving an r/c car with the application of throttle at the right instant, it would land on all four, if you just nailed through there it landed on the front bumper.

I did not see any cracks in the tubing and all parts were replaced from contact. Still think it was easier on the kart than jumping the rumble strips at Bandi. The launch was smoother but at a very high speed. Oh and also on corner exit. If you look at Mitchs photo’s you can see some of the air borne drivers trying to will their karts away from the bales by turning the front wheels. You know, like a rubber or something. It was awesome!

Charles clipped a tire used to border the circuit with his rear tire. Launching him.

    Bill,
I couldn’t agree more. If you look at where the racers were hitting the hay bales, it was the last bale in line. 75% of the bales were not in the “safety” zone. The exit of each corner, at high speed was open, heading to a tree or light post. I thought we learned not to use tires from Steamboat, as they tend to flip karts and not act as a “barrier”.
The Kartique kart fliped just going into the tire at med. speed for a kid kart. Charles fliped by just “bumping” the last tire in the line heading down the first back straight.
The track was “fun and exciting” to drive, but not thought out for passing and braking zones for Tag or shifter. You had to have superior speed to get by the field, or your passing zone ended with a light post or permanent curb.
The tires trying to make a chicane down the back straights only cleared the racers off your hip, as it was still full speed heading thru them. They didn’t slow the kart down, heading into the next transition, it just prevented passing on that whole section without a braking zone to use for the pass.

All in all, I’m surprised we walked away without any damage from bales or tires, however, I wanted to get home and not hurt the equipment or myself.
I hope the organizers learned from this and will improve it next year.

    Still, a fun event.

    Jim
