ParticipantThis was a STREET race, not a racing facility with plenty of runoff. Everyone knew going in that this includes light poles, trees, and concrete. I loved the course and had a blast driving it.

InactiveAs an active driver as well as a father of a driver, I cannot recall an event that encompased all that we racers love to do. The track was as well designed as any we have enjoyed and the staff again did a remarkable job in creating a wonderfull weekend event. Temporary courses are difficult at best yet Greeley was for us, as good or dare I say, better than the Supernationals in its best year.
I found that not having this event as a CSC points race was somewhat detrimental to overall turnout, drivers certainly raced for the flag if for nothing other than a love of the race. Lets reconsider this points no points issue again for next season, and if we all place 08′ Greeley on our mind calendars now, we can turn this wonderfull event into a major race on everyones schedule. When a city or township offers itself up to an event such as ours, we as racers thank them by our participation. I have been involved with many such events on a national level and can assure you that having a municipality supporting your event is a gift that we should continue to embrace and be thankfull for.
In any event, those of you who didnt participate missed one of the good ones!!!
Be safe, see you in GJ.

“Rubbing is Racing, Ramming is’nt”And the point of my post was to point out that you can’t expect the safety level of a temp street course to be anywhere close to a permanent facility. I could understand your complaint if we were talking about a guard rail or telephone pole at a permanent course. Hay bales are about as good as you are gonna get at a temp course. I doubt Rock Island does it any differently.
Let’s put this another way. If YOU were in charge of course layout and safety, what would you have done differently?
As a driver, I realized that I could not wreck in a couple corners or the penalty would have been very high, the tree at the exit of one corner and the concrete curb at the chicane scared the crap out of me…therefore I only drove at about 95% through those two corners.
I am defending the safety preparations, I feel they were appropriate.

ParticipantRock Island is nothing more then hay bails covering concrete curbs, trees, and buildings. Not to mention a huge bump on the entry and exit of every corner as well as cobblestone cross walks that get you airborne 3 times a lap That is what I love about street races. Who has got the biggest seeds.
No home field advantage, hazzards everywhere, spectators, it is the best. Count me in for 2008 as I will be ready to go.

TaG Jr #20For those of us who have run street courses, this seemed fairly reasonable. These are not for the faint of heart. DO NOT go to Cascade Locks (or several of the other street offerings) if you thought this was unsafe Tony. You may just turn around and come home.
The nature of the beast. 3 steering shafts, 1 spindle and 1 axle is more than i replaced all year last year, and about half of what Cascade cost us in damage. Even very experienced drivers are subject to damage from themselves and others.
The biggest safety issue was not having an ambulance on site (in my opinion). Seems like a 10+ minute response is cutting into very important time with certain injuries. The corner workers were VERY green and missed a lot of calls. I thought Bobby did an excellent job. Particularly not having Ian (family emergency) to take care of the safety crew / corner workers and the training required.

Patrick Koentges GPI pretty much echo Patrick’s feelings and comments.
We had a great time too. Glad we rearranged our schedule to be there this year. All in all, it was awesome and the quality of racing did not suffer with the size of the fields. Probably the best racing I’ve seen from the “little buggers” this year. Seemed like a pretty good turn out for the Kids and Jr’s and close racing in those classes too.
It remains to be seen if the Csc participation is going to dwindle this year, but seems like this could have been a better race if included in that series.
Was still a great race with a cool feeling around it. It transformed from a parking lot race to a full on, ba__’s out street circuit that is much more enticing to compete on.
Even though it’s not the best weekend, I have to admit, it was kinda nice to have a day to clean and lounge / recover after racing and we will attempt to keep this race on the schedule as long as we race.

ParticipantBe careful, I might have to have a manthong entry. And it won’t be pretty…
Did anyone ruin spindles, etc by the jump? Just wondering…

It wasn’t the jump that was the problem…it was the sudden stops which bent stuff. A couple racers landed crossed-up which sent them into a dangerous slide or spin towards tires or hay bales.
I don’t know if charles had contact with someone or if he just landed sideways and clipped a tire.
To answer your question, mike, i dont think anyone bent stuff just from landing the jump.
