Curt Kistler
ParticipantKirk,
Some drivers/tuners intentionally cut their seat up there to increase the chassis performance. See how it drives and go from there. You may be limiting your flex by repairing it and hurting the overall performance. You will need to test and see. My suggestion: If your kart handles well, and you are comfortable with it, leave it alone. Keep an eye on it to make sure it does not get larger. We would hate to see you fall out of your machine during the heat of the battle.

ParticipantDang. I have alot to learn.
Everytime I learn something new I realize there is SO much more I need to know to go fast. Thanks for the tip, Curt. I’ll be testing on Saturday.

ParticipantCheck your Fetzer valve. Oh that’s right you don’t have a Rotax…

InactiveKirk,
Do you have seat struts bolted on your seat? If not, when you steped in your seat it cracked the top. If you do, leave it alone, the chassis is trying to tell you something.

InactiveYou can also drill a small ~1/8″ hole right in the end of the crack to stop it from continuing to split.

ParticipantWe may intentionally split the seat, drill stop (like Dane said) then lay a small 3/4″ x 2″ fiberglass patch at the drill stop to prevent further growth.
I have all the materials in my trailer to do this. No sense in purchasing anything for the amount you need, Polyester boy.
Sorry, can’t seem to get over it.

ParticipantPolyester Boy: I’d keep away from Rick. He smokes and your outfit might spontaneously combust. Get around him when you’re wearing cotton. Oops. That might be a bad option also. Have you seen his black pit apron?

ParticipantI have made some cuts to my seat in couple of areas hoping to get a bit more of my DFM chassis. So I agree your chassis is telling you something, perhaps loose some pounds… Polyester boy… 😯
