ParticipantDid anyone answer Kirk’s question in the first post about the Easykart not in the list of weights for 2007?
Les Prins
ParticipantCurt, Do you mean in Genoa or at PPIR?

ParticipantHey Brad, If you connect the external battery to the transponder, wouldn’t you have to dissconnect the bad internal batteries so it will not try to charge them and discharge it too soon? I have also seen some charging circuits not work properly if there is no battery or a bad battery to charge and will not charge/power the unit. I am guessing at this but just a few thoughts… These things seem to be overpriced and have the karting market by the …….! 240 bucks for a radio transmitter/reciever?
Les Prins
ParticipantI was wondering if I can get my E470 ExpressToll transponder to work at the tracks…. 😯
Pop it off the truck and stick it on the kart.

ParticipantBlink, Has it been decided what will be running at the IMI club races? Just wondering if we will be able to run the animals anywhere. It was stated in the posts here that there will be a place for the animals somewhere, there is just too many of them. The hot rodder in me still would like to tweak and tune these motors. This is the most fun I have had working on making something go faster in a long time.
Also, in my opinion, the JR1 animals should have been given the same 1 year notice as the K80’s that they will be dropped from the CSC instead of the cloud of rumors hanging around all year. I am glad there is a multi-year plan now so that people will know that there investments will be able to last several years. I believe this will only help families in making their decision to try kart racing when parents bring their kids to the track to watch a race or rent a kart.
Les Prins
ParticipantWhat model and will it be a supplied motor like kid karts?
Les Prins
ParticipantMaybe a rental kart may be best for this race. They don’t seem to have many problems running 200 laps. 😯

ParticipantLooks like the only engines discussed here so far are the K80, Animal, and the Honda so I wanted to expand the discussion a bit. I would like to see a decision soon so spend money accordingly. Spring will be here before you know it and if there is a change, we might not be ready.
What was decided in the meeting about the world formula engine? This is a race prepared engine with everything needed to go racing including an electric starter, billet rod, heavy duty valve train, heavy duty clutch, air filter, and a rev limiter so you can’t blow the engine, all for $1000 and under brand new. All that is needed is a silencer and battery. I have heard that this engine can last up to 2 seasons, is this true? Looks like the only way to ruin this engine is to forget to put oil in it. That seems to me to be a very good deal even over the Honda engine if it needs to be built and blueprinted for reliability. Has anyone had experience with this motor?
George, Has the world formula classes at CRE been competitive and has the engine been reliable? How much are they at your shop?
As for the Animal engine, I have spent less than $800 on two animal engines, (one new found online, one used), a new clutch, and a clutch rebuild kit. We seemed to be competitive and limited to inexperience of the driver and kart setup. Nowhere near $1300 for one engine.
If someone needed to buy a new Animal setup:
New engine: $490.00 (fastermotors.net)
Clutch and drive sprockets: $150.00-$220
Header pipe and silencer: $35-$45
Chain guard: $10.00 (ebay)
Throttle cable setup: $20-$30
Timing key set for tuning: $10
Engine mount: $60
I may be missing something but total: ~$780-$860 all new.BTW, I still want to know where all the K80 racers were last season in the CSC.

ParticipantMaybe there should be sub headings under classifieds like Engines, Frames, , Parts, Accessories, and Complete setups with sub headings for TAG, Shifter, JR1 and Cadet, Kid Kart, Briggs, etc. No bumping before 20 days unless replying to a question. Delete the posts after 45 days to get rid of sold or stuff no longer for sale. I know this would take some work to mediate this but I would be willing to help.

ParticipantSo what happened with all these drivers with K80’s in 2006? We started racing in mid season and there was only 2 or three in most of the CSC races looking back at the race results. :idn: There must have been some problem with the Comer owners that was not agreeable to all.
I would like to be at the meeting tomorrow but I will not be able to make it so I would like to make my opinion known in this forum.
Don, I agree with you, the Honda is a very reliable motor and would be a good choice for JR1 as a supplied motor for equality.
If the Honda is chosen, maybe the motors should reverse order (1st place motor goes to last driver, last motor to 1st driver and reverse order in between) instead of the just pick one method. I would also be willing to pay a fee for using the motor in each race above the entry fee. I can still use the animals for practice which are similar and I will not have to make an investment on another motor.
This would also help kids get into racing with maintenance costs and dad or mom will not have to learn how to fix and tune motors.

That animal was not JR1 stock, was it?
Les Prins
ParticipantI have been checking the site every day since the season ended and have not seen any discussion regarding JR1. I miss one day and look what happens.
My vote is NO, I will not be using a K80 for our kart, It would obviously require a new or old engine and chassis if the Jr1 K80 rules apply since my chassis is full size not cadet. If I am to invest in anything now it would be for 2 years down the road for JR TAG, not another motor to store in my garage after one year. I think that the one engine idea would be better “phased in” somehow so that the new in class will buy for the future and the existing drivers would leave after changing class. Eventually there would be one engine. I will be running the animal for 2007 if there are tracks that will let us.
Also, I think that the majority of the JR1 class have no intention of going national and don’t care what the other areas of the country are running. They just want to run races with friends and have a good time. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I agree with Mike, stock animal, straight timing key and stock cam, no cheater cams. Pull starter. Allow a $60 billet rod for reliablity, it will stop making HP after 6000 rpm anyway with stock timing and no big holes in the block. Save $$$ JMHO

ParticipantI really did not take it personally, I felt that your comments were an insult to 1/2 of the animal class and a few of the K80s. Each driver racing in the race, may it be for 5th, 6th or 7th, etc were “racing” for a position and trying to improve on there last race. In a perfect world the whole field would be even and no one would get lapped. I have seen lap traffice in every race from karting to NASCAR. Lap traffic is a fact of life. Good drivers deal with it. I honestly did not see any unpredictable driving in the Jr1 main race. Seemed pretty clean to me.
Before the race I told my son to let all the faster karts by and let the front runners race.
And by the way, we have been practicing nearly every weekend since we bought our kart.
Les Prins
ParticipantBrian, Are you endorsing the animal engine for next year? 😀
It just seems that the “fast” k80s were close to most of the animals faster but alot faster than the “untuned” box stock animals.
Les Prins
ParticipantMy son is a “new” racer and he seems to be holding his own right in the middle of the pack. He was lapped in the main race, but he was not confident that day because of the conditions and the drizzle was starting. If the new and slow racers are not welcome at the CSC, you would have maybe 3 or 4 Jr1 animals and maybe no k80’s. Is that what is good for Colorado karting?
It seems that Conner New had no problems with the slower traffice in the qualifying, heat or main race. I never saw it as a real problem until some drivers were impatient and tried to pass in the wrong places.
If the field was larger I probably would just stick to the club races (which would only be at IMI for his class) but after we bought the kart we were graciously invited by the rest of the class members to come and run in the CSC, so we did and he had a good time, and made some friends
So at what point would it be OK to run in the CSC, should there be a board that would review the resume and a vote to be in the CSC?
I guess I am not too happy seeing this post since this was Mr. Moore’s son’s first CSC race after looking back at the point standings, It doesn’t do much for the sport and gripe about kids who may be slower than some but having a good time racing and making friends…
