ParticipantShhh….keep it quiet…..there will be a follow-up “secret” Junior 1 team manager’s meeting this Thursday, to get a consensus on what engine the class participants think we think should focus on for the CSC in 2007 (K80? Animal? Something new?).
In our last meeting, we got some good input and data from people who have experience with the various different powerplants, and it’s time now to see if there is general agreement based on criteria such as cost, reliability, performance, commonality, etc..
Of course, the next step will be to go to the CSC board and administration and see how our desires and theirs fit together (so it’s really not a secret).
All who plan to run this class in 2007 (with a driver who will be roughly 7 to 12 years old) are invited and encouraged to attend.
Time: Thursday, October 5th, 7:00 p.m.
Place: Scott Hannum’s house, 10720 Windridge Ct., Highlands Ranch
Questions?: Scott Hannum, 303/888-8162; or Kurt Freiburg 970/215-3093. Let us know especially if you can’t make it, but want your opinions represented.
Hope to see y’all there.

ParticipantOkay, I’ll be direct. The “secret” part is a joke, the meeting never was a secret, it just aquired that adjective down at the rumour mill.
The concept is to get the class participants to think through what they want as a group before discussing it with the CSC. Similar to the stillborn racer-rep idea, just a bit more formal.
This compliments the town meeting – look at it as a working group on the side. It should make the town meeting more efficient. Otherwise, we could take up 1/2 the meeting with 15 separate people just talking about the Jr. 1 issue.
Besides, Curt, you shouldn’t be in the middle. Scott and my phone #s are posted, the track owners can call either of us anytime.

ParticipantThen at least attempt to include the Jr. 1 families from up North, out West and down South.

ParticipantThat’s why it’s posted. We have a central location for the meeting, and are accessable by e-mail, phone, and PM if you can’t attend. Don’t know of too many more ways to be inclusive, but am open to suggestions.

ParticipantOn a practical note, we will have pizza and beverages available, so please let Scott or me know if you’re coming so the inventory can be properly managed.
And thanks to those who have contacted us so far.

ParticipantI hope that all of the vigilanties can come to a concensus. I would love to come but I am sure there will be someone their that will speak for me, many of you know what I mean.

InactiveKurt and Scott,
Ignore ‘blink” and Curt, you’re doing the right thing.
I can’t be there, but wish I could just to give “the finger”
to those that don’t want us involvedOctober 5, 2006 at 2:44 am #55030Curt Kistler

Participant?Vigilantes?? Aw, shucks, Brad, such flattery 😳 ?..we thought we were just ?customers?.
And the woodshed? Cool! That?s my favorite part of the farm. Oh?wait?that would be the hayloft, sorry.
Thanks for the moral support, Russ, but no fingers necessary, there?s no reason for this to be a contentious meeting.
In a democracy, there are leaders who best represent the view of their constituency in order to get what they want, namely re-elected. Okay, so that?s not what we have here.
So let?s use a more appropriate model, since the CSC is a private business and not a democratically run club. In a free market economy, competition is key, and customer feedback is necessary (in fact, in the industry I?m in, it?s mandatory) if you want to keep customers happy. Marketing people pay thousands of dollars to organize small focus groups so that they can listen to what customers want.
The CSC is getting this from the jr. 1 customers for free. It?s non-binding market data, ready to be used by decision makers. And the only thing that?s threatened is ignorance.
In other words, I still don?t get what the fuss is all about. And no, Brad, I don?t know what you mean.
Looking forward to this evening

AAWWW! COME ON, Kurt!!!
Just when I was having fun. Well, if you don’t want it to be “contentious”, then it’s a good thing I won’t be there.
Just let me know if you need it to become “contentious.” I’m ready!
(But you might need to explain what that means to me, first)October 6, 2006 at 7:32 pm #55033fastg
Participantso, what did you guys figure out?
Cant we karters talk about stuff without it getting cleared with Curt?
Only see it making discussion for the meeting better…

ParticipantAs a Jr1 Animal “Dad”, I wished I could make it to the meeting or at least get involved in the discussion a little more that I have (seem to be busy either getting ready for races or other stuff like work).
So far I have heard the K80, Honda, and a few pulling for the Animal to stay. These are the three that give us the most bang for the buck. Two of the three are actual racing motors (K80 and the Animal) and the Honda is an industrial motor (I am not knocking the Honda by any means but does it run past 4000 rpm? if it does, can the parts handle it? Will it run with the governer?). We have been to 4 races now and the Animals out number the box stock k80’s. I don’t know how many are out there that have not shown up to race. If we go to a Honda, we all have to either buy new engines or if they are supplied, the new racers need to purchase something to practice with. Either way we all buy something new. Is the K80 being phased out soon? I did here that a new K60 or C60 may be taking its place. If we go with the K80, do we buy a K80 going to buy and obsolite motor?
Why are some so bent on getting rid of the Animal engine for this class when there already 7 or 8 in the field right now? I know that several are going to move up or into another class but those karts and motors will be for sale and that will give someone a inexpensive way to get into racing. I have had several people come to me in the pits and say they are interested in getting their son or daughter and ask how much it cost us to get there. I told them less than $2000 they asked for more information on what we were running. I told them what we had and then unfortunally had to tell them that we were not sure if we can run this package next year. Now if I could tell them that there were a few karts for sale and you could get a good deal and race next season, we might get more kids out there. They seemed to be turned off by all the changes made every year.
I am seeing a bias in kart racing against B&S and I am not sure why. They seem to be making a very serious effort to mass produce an engine that is inexpensive and very easy to work on (even I can work on this thing after a few months with a little engine know how). If you like electric start, why not use a sealed World Formula engine with a restrictor plate in Jr1. It comes with a clutch, rev limiter, and header for around $1000. Remove the plate to practice going faster if you like. I could always use a World Formula or Animal on my kart in the “race with my son day” He really likes racing with me on test and tune days.
We have one or maybe two more years in the Jr1 class and really don’t want to buy anything new that I cannot use later. If they have the Animal or the supplied Honda (we can use our Animal for practice) in the Jr1 class next year, we are in for sure. If not, I am not yet sure what we will do.
By the way, I bought a brand new never run Animal for $250 bucks, threw a timing key and it seems to be running just fine with the rest of the field. Qualified 5th out of 8, and got 3rd at CSC #9 at The Track by just staying out there. Kinda cool and slippery
