Is the K80 being phased out soon? I did here that a new K60 or C60 may be taking its place. If we go with the K80, do we buy a K80 going to buy and obsolite motor?
No
The K80 is widely accepted and readly available. You can pick up engines cheap and as our driver showed this past weekend, they are pretty quick also. It is not going to be obsolete any time soon.
I also can not believe that the Animal is going any where next year. There are too many of them around so I’m sure there will be a place for them. I think the confusion comes from where will they have that place. Club or Regional, we keep getting the two mixed up.

ParticipantWhy can’t both run in the same class. It seems that the k80’s that were blueprinted were just as fast as some of the animals. Can’t the rules change so both motors are on equal ground and let them run. Seems there are different motors for all other classes and if one is stronger put a limit on timing, carb or use a restrictor plate. In the CSC right now it didn’t seem right to have just 2 or 3 in the k80 class. I think they needed to be in the same class and either let them build there engines up a little or restrict the animals. Just my thoughts on this, tell me if there are any technical problems with this approach.

ParticipantThe k80s that you considered fast were driven by experienced drivers. The animal has at least a 3 hp advantage not to mention the torque difference. In years past they did mix the class with briggs flat heads, animals and the k80. If you had equal drivers with that mix of engines the smart dad would buy an animal. Notice that in years past this not so smart dad made his son compete using the k80 in the CSC.

InactiveHey Don,
You say “NO TECH INSPECTIONS”? Really?
Anyone know a good outlet for some steroids?

ParticipantBrian, Are you endorsing the animal engine for next year? 😀
It just seems that the “fast” k80s were close to most of the animals faster but alot faster than the “untuned” box stock animals.

ParticipantA blueprinted comer is still a slower less powerful engine than even a just pulled out of the box animal. Im not endorsing one engine package over another. All the engines have there own merits. I would never own a comer if we didn’t race other venues. The comer is a cement mixer motor that in my opinion is a piece of junk. However if you want to race at the national level in jr1 that is the choice for an engine. Im not sure if we are going to race in the CSC next year or not waiting to see rules etc. before I commit. Plan on racing STARS again, and see if we can improve from mid pack. Also looking at running a mini cup car. Not sure if my Son will enjoy turning left. My son has been offered a chance to drive one so only time will tell.
