Thanks guys! Now I can get started getting my kart back together and ready for another race. I won’t be racing this week but I’ll be at IMI on Sunday to cheer and jeer. See ya’ll at the track!

I’m curious how software would be able to calculate an intangible such as how a kart ‘feels’ on corner entry/exit, etc. I downloaded some freeware called ‘kartcalc’ which has similar info..I only used it to calculate top speeds, using gearing, tire circumference, and RPM. (i was just curious about my blazingly fast top speeds). For that, it worked great.

Think about the vast differences between frames. There would seem to me to be too many variables for software to give you any sort of definitive set-up information. Here’s another way to look at it: Often on http://www.ekartingnews.com a new racer asks where he can get a book which explains chassis dynamics and set-up. Short answer? There isn’t one. BUT there are some books which can give you some tips on which direction to go when chasing a problem. I like Memo Gidley’s ‘secrets of speed for two-cycle kart racing’. It doesn’t tell you exactly what to do to your kart but it does explain what some changes will do and it gives a great overview of HOW a kart handles and what makes it go around a corner. This book really helped me out.

Keep testing and making changes and note what the changes did to your baseline.

    Brother of Bud,

I use a deep 10mm socket with an extension and a ratchet handle.

Angie, I’ll be out there on Saturday morning to help. I’ve had my daughter all week and this race is definitely not the place for her to be running around. I’ll be there by 7.

    Brother of Bud,

You won’t need the passport if you are running TaG. If you are running a rotax spec series you will need to have your engine sealed to pass tech. You could take your motor to one of the local builders and have it inspected and sealed if you choose to race a rotax only series.

This can be confusing, feel free to ask more questions. Take a trip out to Centennial to see the Rotax nationals this week. Those guys have seals on their motors.

Tony, just a guess, but I doubt you’ll be hitting 70+ mph on a 1/3 mile parking lot course. If I were you, I’d have some extra gears on hand to shorten things up a bit from what you normally would run at IMI.

I’d like to thank Dave Zippie, Rick Schmidt and AJ Noud for supporting my unemployed, broke ass throughout the weekend. Their assistance and support were a true testament to the camaraderie and helpfulness of this great karting community. Most weekends, I’m standing on the infield, 7th place felt great after testing (and breaking lots of stuff) on Saturday.

Thanks to all. I am privileged to be a member of this community.

Ahhhh, the eternal question. Come to IMI on sunday and get a feel for the scene and what classes have the largest fields. You’ll see the differences in classes and just see what group you’d like to race with.

There is no RIGHT answer as to which class would be best to start with. Have a budget in mind …then be prepared to throw it right out the window. There will be lots of ‘little’ things that you’ll need to buy that you may not be prepared for right now.

I’ll be there practicing on Saturday starting around 1 PM if you want to come say Hi. If you can fit in my kart (I have a small seat) you can take some laps to get a taste of the speed and cornering..it’s quite addictive.

The Rotax can be raced in TaG (touch and go refers to the green push-button start). The Rotax can also race in its own class and offers a separate series.

Rotax is competitive in TaG against different motors. Come to IMI on Sunday and ask a bunch of questions of the racers. Everyone is happy to share.

    Mr Sisco’s brother,

IMI has a longer straight section and you may over rev your motor if you used your Bandimere gearing. Example: I use a 79 or 80 tooth rear sprocket at IMI, at The Track, I use an 83 tooth. In karting, one tooth larger or smaller on the rear gear will equal approximately 200 revs in either direction. I hope that points you in the right direction.

Welcome to our little website. Please sign your name so I don’t keep calling you Mr. Brother of Buddy.

    Sorry Angie,

Jansen was asking for it. He mocked Orion! But I digress…I still plan on volunteering for the Nationals. (back on topic for once, hahahaha)

that full face job may offer more protection

    Let’s ask Micheala.

Hey Jansen, while your dog FiFi was getting his nails painted and you were getting your butt waxed, Michaela was in the back room getting a facial from Orion.

Don’t be mad at me, that’s what she gets when she falls for The Man in The Mask.

    It’s like Christmas! Full-on Zip/Schmidt factory support, fees, a mechanic, tires…I swoon!

I have a new chain and a new sprocket and enough fuel for practice. The tires i have on there now will be on their 3rd weekend but still good for working the kinks out on saturday. After my last race (debacle) I definitely need to get my driving helmet on straight.

Alright Zip, it’s podium time. Orion is BACK!

Rick, I’ll give you a call.

Garrick, you just made my head hurt. You are right, I just needed an M.E. to explain it to me.

but I’m wary of statements to the effect of “direct drive equals locked-up clutch.”

You should be wary of my statements..very very wary. I’m just along for the ride and the humor.
