ParticipantYou would need to change the gear on the clutch to run a short track. If you don’t you will fry the clutch!

ParticipantBrad, any idea what that gear should be?

ParticipantBrad,
The gear change, is that just concening the Jr1’s or TaG’s too?August 7, 2007 at 4:36 am #58941Kirk Deason
ParticipantTony, just a guess, but I doubt you’ll be hitting 70+ mph on a 1/3 mile parking lot course. If I were you, I’d have some extra gears on hand to shorten things up a bit from what you normally would run at IMI.

ParticipantTony,
If you’re still running a Rotax, go with an 11 tooth driver or you will get to big a gear on the axle and may have interference problems with hitting the track surface. I don’t care how smooth the parking lot is, you get a big gear on there and you risk throwing chains.
I would probably start with and 11 / 80 or so. See what it’s doing and go from there. Start by keeping the minimum Rpm at or above 7,000

ParticipantIf you are slipping the clutch all the way around the track because your gear is to low of a ratio you will fry the clutch. Try to gear your engine (any engine) so that it’s max rpm is reached at the end of fastest part of the track (usually straight). Your engine should be locked up 85% of the time if you want the clutch to last on any engine.

ParticipantThank you Brad…makes sense.
Serria, thank you for working on this, however, I don’t think Sammy will run. We will for sure be there to watch and support our fellow karters though.

InactiveSierra, Its sounds fun, please give us a call with the details. If anything it would be good to show the karts off and talk to future karters.
