ParticipantDo you think it would be faster if I brake 5 kart lengths deeper, got on the gas at the same point, and had the same exit speed as when I run rear brakes only?
Grand Jct, IMI, the track etc all have fast straights that lead to hard braking. You don’t think these will be just as big of an advantage as tighter tracks if not more.
Just because you have front brakes does not mean you need to slow down more than if you only had rears. Braking later does not mean over slowing your kart. There is a big difference in the two.
If the testing has been done, and there is no true advantage then let front brakes be an option without adding weight. Just don’t change it mid season when someone goes in deeper than you.
It seems testing has been done so we will not do it unless we need to in order to clarify the rules. I am just trying to help, not cause conflict.

ParticipantI will have Alan conduct the test. It will take him 3 laps to adapt to the different brake systems. We can do it in GJ as we have past times from all CSC races and will be able to compare them to his lap times.

ParticipantGreg,
Not trying to point out right or wrong but trail braking is huge is every type of auto racing. At the bondurant school, they have your Shifter hooked up to measure trail braking which of course has front brakes. I do not know a single driver in shifters that do not trail brake. Maybe it’s old school but everyone I have raced with does.
Just my experience,
RB
Ps. I will test this while in Phoenix this week. I will have Alan help me with the data and let everyone know the results when I get back.

ParticipantBottom line is rear brake karts were designed for lightweight Italians with way more rubber on the track. Each year the engine manufacturers and builders come up with more and more HP. Would everyone agree that we have more HP now then we did 110 years ago?
Look at the power to weight ratio compared to 10 years ago. Look at top speed to weight ratio in the masters class. I feel that if TAG USA keeps throwing weight to engines with more power then something needs to be done to stop the karts. More power + More weight = more momentum. A nice combo for disaster.
For those that say front brakes do not make a dif, lets test it. I guarantee that I could out brake anyone with rears only. I have driven both. I can go twice as deep, and keep my exit speed.
Rick, I would be willing to help with a test after the enduro here next month. Roman and I can setup our karts with and without fronts. We can run the same laps, check the g-forces on the mycron, check entry and exit speeds, check braking points etc etc.
I do think it is an advantage and would be willing to help to reslove it with testing. Brad, if you can make it over for the race, we can get the test setup. The perfect option would be to add 10lbs to front brake karts. We can also test with the weights as well. If we need we can do all setup at my shop as it’s a bit nippy here and I do not have my rig to haul m big trailer any longer. I am sure Stacey would lend us a heated part of his shop since it is for the CSC.
What does everyone think? We can use several drivers as to avoid bias and get true readings. We can have Rudy run sessions with the heavy weights as he is very consistent at GJ (and I think everywhere else).
What do we think?
Sorry for the typing but it is only 58 degrees in my office and my fingers are not working.

ParticipantAJ Nude Dude,
I am in need of four new engines for Kelly and I for the year. please pm or e-mail me and let me know about the Motori. I have been leaning toward the Leopard because we have had good success with them but please sell me on the Motori.
By the way, I sold all of my karts and think it included our 4 chassis to race so I may need some chassis as well so send me details.
Thank you,
Richie

ParticipantRick,
I have Dunham and Rudy for 1 team and Mike Baures and I for the other so far. I have lost 20 lbs but it is the holidays. By the time the race happens I should be back to my chubby old self.
Brian, I have decided to get my atrificial disk put in in Feb. so please put a few of these together before then. I want to really screw my back up for my Dr.
Please also give us as much notice so we can build karts and buy cheap air tickets.
This is gonna be fun. If there is enough notice i will put together a BBQ or Party for Sat. night
See you here,
Richie

ParticipantI mentioned this is the past. EKartingnews has a rule. No replies PM or e-mail only. This eliminates the bumping. They also have a 2 week renew rule as well so people are not putting the same stuff on every day. It seems to be very fair.

ParticipantRick,
Endurence racing has nothing to do with weight and speed. Let the teams go out full balls and their tires will not make it. Set a steady pace, (Roman is very fasy even at his weight) and keep your equipment together. It is who finishes first and not who ran the fastest lap.
I put together 2 teams in Jacksonville a couple of years ago.
Team 1 – Alan Rudolph & Bobby Wilson
Team 2 – Marc Elliot & AJ NoudNeither team finished either days racing. We blew up 5 Vortex rox and 1 Sonic. I had to buy 3 new engines just so we could race on Sunday.
The biggest thing will be tires. 200 continuous laps on one set of tires will be interesting. Gear and chain survival are also an issue. Brian, make sure the rule does NOT allow chain oilers and has to be 219 only. There are so many ways of winning these types of races just by survival.
Count me in for at least 2 teams. I love this format. No sanctioning body or politics.
Richard
Ps. The price is perfect. very cheap for this type of program. Set it up and see how many teams confirm.

ParticipantAlan and I are going for one last shot at it. I guess Rock Island was not our swan song.
See you there,

ParticipantLook on the CIK FIA website. They have all of the homologation sheets for all chassis in the world. If you can not find anything send me a PM and I will fax you a chassis homologation sheet. This will help a ton.

ParticipantStacey is nice enough to lend us his brand new house on Redlands Mesa GC for the meeting. He also said he would buy all the beer. Am I correct Cook?
Count me in. ( Sorry Melissa )
By the way, Kelly and I have decided to go racing next year. We will do it when we want to and not have to. I am now searching for sponsors. I have heard this sport is expensive. Anything helps!!!!!!!
