ParticipantGreg, and the Track Owners-
I’m still confused about the status of the 4 stroke senior class in this state.
For the IMI club races, what happens if Brad finishes a deal with MG for tires, and that becomes the spec tire there too? Brad’s recent post implied that the door may not be closed with MG yet. If that was a major stumbling block with the CSC, what will be the group’s reaction at IMI?
Also, what engine rules will we be running at IMI? Nothing posted as far as I can tell.
And for CRE, what class will we be running? The only posted 4 cycle senior class is World Formula. I doubt that WKA will allow a mixed bag class like the CSC ran last year. So how are Lim Mod Animals, WFs, stock Animals, Blue Wazooms, and misc. flatheads all going to run? Do we have the requisite 4 racers with any one of these engines to start a class? I assume we have enough limited modifieds (this may be a bad assumption), but what will happen to the others? IMI only? And by the way, CRE specs SL-4 Dunlops for the WF class, so the spec tire issue doesn’t look like it’s going away there.
What class and rules will Bandimere run for their special events (if any)?
For the record, I have no problem with joining SKUSA even if the 4 cycle class was “local option”, and I have no problem with buying a spec tire (except that I’d like to run MG Oranges for a little longer life). Those “extra” costs are minor in the overall budget. I am disappointed that I had no input or information about the abandonment of the 4 cyc sr. class until it was (apparently) a done deal. I really wanted to race at GJMS and Steamboat.
I have a co-worker who is getting back into 4 strokes this year who is disappointed also, as a multi-track state championship was very appealing. I’d guess that there other newbies looking in who think the same way.
There are many great things about the 4 cycle class. It’s relatively cheap for one (or at least can be with a good set of rules). It’s a great place to learn to race. Family members can run the same or similar engines, doubling the savings. And from what I saw last year, the racing and comraderie are fantastic. All of this is why I decided not to run a shifter for now.
This is a class we need to promote to potential new racers, not abandon. Let’s keep organized, before this goes the way of the KT and we have no low cost class at all.

When did you move to the midwest? 🙁
More seriously, what will the tire rules be for your club series – MG only, or last year’s durometer-based CSC rules, or ?
Thanks!

Have you decided if we can run harder MG compounds if we want (orange or red)?

Thanks for putting in enough numeric detail to keep the rest of us engineers happy 🙂 !

It’d be nice if and when my son ever gets tech’d if he didn’t get disqualified for an out-of-spec cam. I agree.

ParticipantTo add some detail to Ben’s question, is the stock moto the only engine in 125 Novice, or will it be scored separately, or just weighted differently?

ParticipantI do have a vintage kart actually hanging in the garage – a 60’s Bug Wasp. It’s in process of being restored. My brother’s got my old Mac91, which would be a period-correct mate for it.
Anyone interested in a vintage race? We could do something similar to a “tuner’s race” at one of the CSC events……

ParticipantGood point on the rookies, Marc – it’s hard to argue with a data-backed opinion. Maybe 4 club races is too much. But my basic arguement is that we need some way of monitoring a newbie’s progress so that they meet a minimum skill level before competing in the CSC. A driver school, perhaps? Could be a revenue generator….
Besides, I was responding to Taylor’s comments. I’m a bit puzzled why one of the best TaG pilots wants to start in Novice 125, after you’ve already shown him the way to Pro125.
On your other point, I’d say stock ICC’s should start out in S2 or Sr/Heavy with the modified motos. With stock motos at 34hp, and stock ICCs at 40hp, I don’t think we could add enough weight to make them even in one class. And as mentioned above, “stock” can’t really be defined for an ICC anyway, but SKUSA’s already defined a stock moto. This doesn’t mean more races; we could run S2 and Stock 125 classes together, or S2 and Sr/Hvy.

ParticipantTo expound on an earlier suggestion, I believe the first rung on the ladder system should be club racing, not CSC. This is the way many other forms of racing work. For example:
– A new driver must have successfully competed in 4 races at the club level, and submit proof that he/she did, to compete in any CSC class. Then they run the rest of the year with an “X” on their number plate.
– Pro125 drivers must have at least 1 full season of competition in a shifter kart.
Basically, a simplified licensing system. We just need to stick to the rules once they’re made (like CIK, not SKUSA).

ParticipantBrian, in case you were referring to me about my Jr1 comments, I do have a personal interest. We just bought Mark Ray’s older kart for my 9 year old to run next year. That’s why I made the comments – without having run kidkarts, this is a very fast moving train for a new kid to catch.
There are also 2 other karting dads where I work with Jr1 age kids who won’t start them out under the current rules because the class is too fast. I’d guess there are a few more people like that in the state.
One of these co-workers had an interesting suggestion: run Jr1 on a short circuit at IMI and GJMS to keep the speeds down.
Regarding gas vs. meth in Sr4, this looks like a newcomer vs. current racer issue. The current racers want everyone to get to the speed of the fastest engine, but to a newcomer changing the WF to meth lowers the reliability and adds up-front cost (even worse for a built Animal). If you have to spend $1.5k+ on a 4 cycle, you might as well get a TaG. Yes, WKA now has a Mod Animal/meth class, but the stock Animals are still more popular. Maybe we just allow the mixed nuts to run together, and just have a trophy for each category of engine (Mod Animals and flatheads in one group, and Blue Wazoom and WF in the other, maybe?).
My son and I looking forward to joining the Jr1 and 4cycle families next year, whatever the rules.

ParticipantMy vote:
– Take “Novice” 125 and make it Stock 125. Then run the current S2 as mod moto and ICC with YHC’s. Leave Pro and Sr/Hvy alone.
– Slow down Jr1 Animals with restrictors per WKA. Take the pipes off of the Comer 80s too, run SKUSA rules. I’d even go for harder tires here.
– Restricted TaG Jrs.
– Limited Mod Animals on gas (not methanol) and World Formula for Sr. 4. We shouldn’t overlook WFs, it’s a super attractive package for newbies.
– LM Animals on gas and WFs for Jr2 also; give them a 4 stroke option. Or drop it. Or just let’m run with the Sr4s.
– Make the CSC a higher level event. Drivers should run X number of club races before running CSC, keeping a log sheet with an official’s signoff.
– Have a rookie competition in each class
Thanks for bringining this up, Stacey – Friday will be even more lively now!

Have you run the numbers and logistics to see if you could do the same with Bilands?
Or how about an arrive-and-drive with your Honda rentals at your club events?

Shockwave’s graphics kit looks great also.

ParticipantI found this by accident. Go to http://www.mrpmotorsport.com/. Choose “My-Chron Products” from the menu on the left side of the screen. On that page, click on the picture of the My-Chron II. On that page, they have a dowloadable .pdf version of the manual.
Cheaper and easier than e-bay!
Now if anyone knows where I can get a My-Chron 1 manual, that’s what I actually need.

For the benefit of us future Jr1 dads, what was the DQ for? Something easily overlooked?
