The kart track will be closed all day today and tomorrow for extensive repairs. You all have seen the cracks which have formed over the last few years, there are 51 of them that go all the way from one side to the other. Each crack is now on the average 2″ wide. That is 8.5′ of shrinkage. We are saw cutting a two foot wide section out on each crack, and paving over the cut out with hot mix. The saw cuts are 3264′ in total length, about 5/8 of a mile. I have been promised you won’t feel a bump going over the repairs. All of the smaller cracks are being filled with hot tar.

Brad, have you ever seal coated your track? we are looking at doing that in the next month but are afraid it will make it really slick for awhile..

    Brad –

Thanks for putting in enough numeric detail to keep the rest of us engineers happy 🙂 !

We had seal coated the straight using a special mixture with volcanic rock crushed for traction. It was still to slippery and when a shifter hit it while shifting it would shoot you sideways. I decided to quit before it screwed up the whole track. It took two years for it to be normal again. I would not suggest doing it to your track. Kurt, I forgot to add the shrinkage rate was less than 1% .

Thanks Brad for the maintenance on the track!

What is your price for the MG yellows per set?

I think if I sell them for $375 a set I should be able to cover the cost of fixing the track in 5 years.

Don’t forget to add $10.00 a set to go to the CSC! Scott

    Blink,

So what is your price or I’ll have the HUNs raid you?

The agreement that I had to sign to become a distributor states: Retail sales, by any distributor or dealer, must be the “SUGGESTED RETAIL” as shown on the price list, for all compounds, FAILURE TO ENFORCE THESE PRICES WHEN SELLING WITHIN U.S. TERRITORY CANCELS ANY CURRENT AGREEMENT. With that said up front the price for one set of MZ “yellow” is $170.88, 166.54 for six sets, $156.00 for 18 sets. For the FZ, “new yellow” is $176.22 for one set, $169.86 for six sets, and $159.10 for 18 sets. You cannot buy front or rear tires alone only in complete sets of four tires. We will have tires very soon. The Huns raid on a daily basis so make my day.

    What’s the “new yellow” ? ? ?
Does this mean there are different versions of the tire we are supposed to have “standardised” on…..?? ? ?

MG is just making construction changes to the tire, the durometer (softness) of the tire is still exactly the same as the “old” yellow.

    Construction changes what?

So what is the diff and can we run either one of the yellows?

The “old” yellow is the MZ and has a very flat contact patch. In Europe, this is good because the tracks there are fairly green and aren’t that abrasive on the tire, so the tire will wear evenly there. Here in the U.S., our tracks are very sticky and along with being sticky, they are abrasive to tires and cause the “old” yellows to wear unevenly and usually you will see a bead of rubber sort of peeled up on the inside of the front tires. The “new” yellow is the FZ and has a much more pronounced “balloon” looking contact patch. This allows the tire to be a little more resistant to the abrasion caused by our tracks while still offering the grip of the “old” yellow.

As far as what you can run, either the MZ or FZ, I’m not sure. I assume that you can run either because they are both “yellow’s” and the same Durometer but don’t quote me.

Taylor, You are correct. The new version will not be in the distribution pipeline till later in the season but will be accepted as legal as soon as they are available. Just a new model number for the same spec’ed tire.

It sounds like it is far from the same spec tyre…..
We should have a rule what race the new ones become legal on otherwise there is opportunity for a bit of messing to go on…….
