ParticipantHey Mike,
The sprockets last forever in the Spec Shifter. I used to wear out sprockets every 3 races or so on my Rotax, but I’m still running the Spec Shifter sprockets I got 3 years ago and they hardly have any wear. Also no batteries to recharge or replace. Plus shifting is just cool – fun to drive even by yourself on test days.

ParticipantHi Stacey,
Where’s the race registration form? I couldn’t find it on your website.
Thanks,

ParticipantMike,
I’ll still be running my Spec Shifter next year. I love driving it and it would be great to race with you again. The Heavy class grew this year and I hope that continues next year. A couple of other good Spec Shifter Heavy racers that weren’t mentioned are Jet and Darrell. I agree with what the other Spec Shifter racers said here about maintenance and driving.

ParticipantHi Sheldon,
I use the Leatt brace. I don’t have any data as to how effective it is compared to other devices. I used to use the “foamy doughnut” and I noticed that when I switched to the Leatt my neck got a little more tired for the first couple of races afterwards. So, I guess the doughnut was giving a little more support to my neck in the corners than I realized. My neck muscles quickly got stronger, though, so it’s not a problem. Head movement is really free with the Leatt and I usually forget that I’m even wearing it. About the only movement it restricts is looking downward (like if I’m trying to see how much fuel is left in the tank).

ParticipantCurt,
This is very confusing. There was never any notice that the PPKRC race was going to be a SKUSA points race. Does this mean the SKUSA Regions Cup race scheduled for September 18-19 (on your website) is cancelled? If so, this means the SKUSA was only two races – not much of a series.

ParticipantDave,
Sorry about your accident, hope you recover soon. I agree with Eddy about tire barriers for karts.

ParticipantMike,
Here you go.

ParticipantHaving you blood type on your helmet or uniform wouldn’t hurt (as long as you put the right type!). THis used to be required when I raced SCCA. However, when I was getting an SCCA physical, I mentioned this to the doctor and he said nobody is going to give you blood without checking your type anyway.
Make sure you fill out your emergency contact info correctly on your entry form.

ParticipantNice reports, Tony!
Good luck to all the Colorado racers.

ParticipantThat was fun. That was the first time I’ve raced the shifter in the wet and the first time I’ve raced a kart with slicks in the wet. It took a few laps to find the best technique to get around the corners, and then things went pretty well. Using the throttle was a pretty delicate operation.

ParticipantThis is great! It’s about time somebody stirred things up a bit on the forum. Rich would have liked this.

ParticipantI agree with you guys. I enjoyed watching the other races while I was waiting for my turn. The shifter race was also great fun. It was good to see more guys show up for Spec Shifter Heavy, the class that the fans now demand 🙂 I even got to lead for a while, though Jet was just a little too good this time. I’ll have to find a way to move up one more position next time.

ParticipantI’m looking forward to racing in Grand Junction this weekend. The Cooks always put on a great event. There were several S4 guys there last year, so I hope they show up again.

ParticipantThank you to SKUSA and everybody who helped run the event. The whole weekend was well organized and stayed pretty close on schedule. The track layout was very good – pavement changes, variety of turns, and plenty wide for passing and different lines. There was lots of tough competition and good racing. The event exceeded my expectations and I really enjoyed it.
