I don’t know how to get a hold of Scott Falcone, but if someone knows him tell him I’m calling him out. I heard he is the fastest Tag Master around, and though I don’t have any aspirations of running with him, I want to see how far off the mark I am. If someone get’s a hold of him, tell him Russ from the Indoor Track wants him to come race at IMI this weekend and if he shows up I will pay his entry, including gas, tires and oil.

June 19, 2010 at 5:24 am #63984gunter desantiParticipantHi Russ,
I think we met at PPIR, dont know your kart racing history other than that your a Hot Shot at some Mickey Mouse indoor track and now wants to try the real thing against the best competition. In which case forget this weekend at IMI, instead put in 200 practice laps at The Track get into the 55s, turn up next week -end, slide in the back door kick the shit out of everyone, make a name for yourself. If only it was that easy.
Dont be throwing $$$$ at Scott, he dont need it. Throw it my way so I can race him on equal terms.Gunter

Hi Gunter, thanks for the response. Just to be clear, not trying to “make a name for myself” or kick the shit out of anyone. I just met Scott a few times at the mickey mouse track and thought he was a nice guy and it would be fun to race against him. I think I was pretty clear in original post I have no illusions of victory. I watched him “kick the shit” out of everyone at the race I at the track and just want to know if I am 1, 2 or 5 seconds slower then him. If you run 55’s at the track I’ll make the same offer to you, come on up this weekend and I will cover your costs. As for next weekend, I don’t even own a kart. I have run a few hundred laps at IMI when I was racing shifters but that was almost 10 years ago (before the track even opened). I have done the rentals at the track and it seems like an awesome track. Definitely more technical then IMI, so frankly not having been in a “real kart” in a long time it’s a bit intimidating.
I’ve always tried to race against the best, even thought they almost always beat up on me. My very first kart race I was lapped by Alex Barron (who was a karting hot shoe in Southern California at the time). When he went on to race Indy Cars it was cool to say “hey I raced against that guy….of course he lapped me….” What seems to ruin karting is that everyone wants to win, so when they don’t win they come up with a new class, old guys, fat guys etc (PS I am both old and fat). That’s not my thing. If I show up on Sunday and there is nobody to race against in the master’s class, then I will race in the senior class. I know Sabre is fast so I guess I can measure myself against her.
Not sure why you were so offended by my post, and I’m not trying to get in the middle of anyone’s shit. I know some of the SKUSA guys from 10 years ago, and I just met Jim yesterday, Jim seemed really friendly and knowledgable, and is even pulling together numbers for a new kart for me. I live in Highlands Ranch so the Track is definitely very convienent, and as you noted I spend a lot of time at Speed Raceway, not to be a hot shot, but to spend some fun time with my sons. I would have no reservations doing a race at the track, once I am a bit more seasoned.
So let’s be clear, I don’t pretend to be anything other then a guy who likes to drive. I used to be a decent driver, but that was a long time ago, and some of the best races I ever had were in the mid or even back of the pack. I’m too old for any kind of bullshit, and if I make a “name for myself” for anything I hope it would be for being a nice guy and a great dad.
Peace out,
RussPS Gunter not trying to offend you, have no idea who you are (sorry if we met at PPIR I am very bad with names). If you are a good person to “bench mark” against come on up. Otherwise (if I end up with a kart), hopefully we can meet up and have some good clean races at whatever track, and I have no problem if you kick the shit out of me, as long as when we are done racing you realize I’m just a clean racer, and a nice guy.
June 19, 2010 at 2:03 pm #63986Mike UrbanParticipantFunny thing is, like Gunter, I too know Scott Falcone. Seems to me you have an odd way of finding someone?? Maybe a good way to end you quest is just show up and pay the $10 visitor fee for The Track at Centennial June 27th which hosts the local series Scott is entered in when he’s not racing out of State! Better yet, enter the race and share a great day with the rest of us. You just might meet Scott and some other really great people as well!! As for your origin post ….. not alone, but didn’t come across well, just sayin’!
June 19, 2010 at 2:27 pm #63987cgordonParticipantThis is great! It’s about time somebody stirred things up a bit on the forum. Rich would have liked this.

June 19, 2010 at 3:15 pm #63988Scott FalconeParticipantHey Russ,
Thank you very much for your generous offer. I would really like to take you up on it. Who wouldn’t? I was actually going to run up there this weekend for more practice towards the Grand Nationals coming up in three weeks. In many ways it’s a very similar track to IMI. Unfortunately, due to the short notice and my wife informed me on Thursday night that she has made plans with me and my father for tomorrow. However, she has given me the green light on half the day to play but, I need to be in Castle rock by 1pm. I just don’t think you would get your monies worth. So with that said it would probably be best to pass on this race and save it for the next one. 😐
I would be happy to run with you and any other master drivers in Colorado. It’s a great class/talent of people and I always have a lot of fun running with all of them. Speaking for me, I would love to have you join the class and add some character and additional talent to the bunch. I invite you with open arms my friend.
Russ, there are several other competitive master drivers here in Colorado that would and could defiantly help you compare your skills. I would think some of them would love the offer as well. I would be more than happy to contact them for you if needed for this weekend. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing you at the next race either on the big track or the indoor track where you always kick my butt. 😐
I hope you got your son into racing soon he has some talent in the rentals so hopefully he could transfer that to the big karts. By the way, I think your good Dad I can’t count how many times us three competed at the indoor track this off season and the passion I witnessed with you and your son towards karting.Russ, have a great weekend and Happy Fathers Day 🙂

June 19, 2010 at 3:48 pm #63989Russ McGraneParticipantHey Scott,
Glad I didn’t offend you as I seemed to offend others and it wasnt the intent. Totally understand the time issues. I’m calling in the fathers day card to do the race on Sunday (since I’m the father). No practice today, instead I’m taking the boys up to Frisco to go to the BBQ challenge. I figured 2 full days at the track is too much to ask of them.
Trust me I don’t confuse the indoor track with outdoor karting. They both take skill but it’s a different type of driving. With that said I love indoor karting, and I have to say there doesnt seem to be any drama there. I took Austin up to Bandimere and we drove 10 laps on a leapord. When we were done he said “dad that was the most fun thing I have ever done”, since he as done a lot of fun things that was a pretty big comment. I was shocked with the speed of the kart. I did do one race in a Rotax (before my big crash at the 2001 supernationals), and I remember the rotax being slow out of the corners with lots of top speed, but the leapord pulled pretty hard through the entire range. I drove a direct drive once and it kind of reminded me of that. It also seemed like the motor could explode at any time. Of course I’m an old gear slammer and feel very comfortable with the thought of a stock moto.
I’ll probably come out to watch the race at the track the weekend of the 27th to watch. I’d like to get your take on what might be a good class for me to look at IF I end up getting back into karting. I’m going to PM you my contact info, if you want you can PM me your contact info back.
If something comes up and I don’t see you on the 27th, good luck at the grands.
Russ
June 20, 2010 at 4:07 am #63990Greg WelchParticipantRuss, glad to see you coming back out. I was just out in Indiana at a Rotax race last week hanging out with the one and only Preston Newberry, do you guys still keep in touch? We cant make it up to IMI tomorrow but may be out at Centennial next weekend. Its funny that a lot of the guys from the Skusa V1 days are coming back out of the woodworks.
June 21, 2010 at 3:01 am #63991jedclampetParticipantBeen a long time since a post on this site! Hmmmm I guess we will have to find out at the pepsi center ! Hey Gunter now thats a challenge and i wont send scott or you cash check moneyorder tires or fuel just the challenge of us racing our best with what we have ! now thats what racing should be about! Only the racers can solve the the problems in our sport this supposed to be fun! Bob Reed PS Hope my PC skills were not lacking to badly
June 21, 2010 at 2:53 pm #63992Mike JansenParticipantPepsi Center
Televised
Neutral Track with out of state talent that’s coming in.
BRING ITIf you aren’t at that race then you really aren’t a racer.
And that track has some serious payback for both Scott and myself.
See you then and at Centennial soon…June 21, 2010 at 4:23 pm #63993Russ McGraneParticipantUGH….can hardly lift my hands to type the email. I am totally whipped. Had a great time but I am not ready to comitt back to the sport for two reasons. First, I feel like I was in a gang fight yesterday (and I lost), but the bigger issue is that everyone (with the exception of Scott who’s response was totally cool) is so damn ready to start a fight, being overly sensative, picking sides in some sort of political war that for the life of me I can’t understand (and frankly I have no interest in hearing anything about it). I raced in Tag Senior instead of Master’s yesterday because there were 7 seniors and only 2 masters. There was one master that was quite fast (Ron Reed). There were a some seniors that were also quite fast (Sabre Cook and some other gun on a arrow). I was a little over a second slower then the fastest peopel there, but had a great race with another guy on a CRG.
I had fun, plenty of people in our race, track is BUMPY!! But in the words of the great philosopher Rodney King “Why can’t we all get along”.
I’ll probably come by the track this weekend to watch, but hat’s off to you guys and gals who do this all the time. I have bruises in places I didn’t think you could bruise.
Russ
PS saying Scott won’t leave the pond is total BS, the guy races all over the nation and does fantastic at the national level….my hat’s off to Scott.
June 21, 2010 at 4:34 pm #63994Tony LaPortaParticipantJeeez….. Looks like I need to be making some postings in the classifieds now. 2 karts, couple hundred dollars in tools, a trailer, and just to totally remind me what a waste the last 3 years were, about 15 trophys from multiple tracks.
I mean, after not being able to race at the Pepsi Center last year, or this year, 3 years of actual racing and 5 years of being involved in this sport, I thought I could hopfully just maybe be considered a racer.Guess not!
And for not being a true racer, I apologize to everyone who’s valuable time I have wasted, especially you Mike. I should have known there’s just some people who I will never be on the same level as.
I just feel like a dumb ass right now, for 4 years, I’ve been kidding myself thinking I was a racer.
Thanks for finally clueing me in Mike!Tony

There are some who want to make it political or claim it is political but it is really very, very basic.
I estimate that the average racer (about 75 to 80% of total racers) has both time and money to do 10 races per year. I can give specific examples but in the 15 years I have been racing go karts in Colorado, 10 is the magic number. Right now we have a total of 22 events competing for the same 150 racers. That is roughly the same number of racers we had 15 years ago when we started.
Someone is going to lose. It’s not politics, it’s economics.
People ask me all the time how do we get everybody to race together. It is really very simple. 10 races. 1 series.
To everyone putting on races, put the racer first. Find a way to work together.
