Okay so here’s the issue:
Centennial is phasing out any engines other than Rotax. I have an old rotax and it’s got an hour on it this year and last. My Motori only took a few years to master and I love it. However perhaps now is the time to get the spec Honda and condsider the following:
1) it’s easy and inexpensive to maintain.
2) banging gears, it’s time
3) I WANT TO RACE AGAINST 20, NOT 3
4) unlike the rotax the sweet spot is a little larger in carb settings vs. the rotaxso who’s all thinking of racing Spec Honda heavy for next season? The Super Nationals is the ultimate goal and they have a nice big field there 8)
Feedback and comments please. Cheers all!

They (Supernationals) have a very large Tag Masters field too. With some very good talent!
October 4, 2010 at 8:03 pm #64461Justin MuellerParticipantjansen., you just want to do some infield john deere style racing with a few gears to get out of the rough…….

October 5, 2010 at 4:48 pm #64459Mike JansenParticipantHey don’t get me wrong about TaG Masters, it’s been a heck of a ride. I’m just wondering is the time ripe to make the switch…
October 5, 2010 at 7:45 pm #64463Jeff FieldParticipantTried it, Mike? You’ll love it. I’m sure there are other heavies, but McD, Cris, Watkins, and Gordon come to mind.
October 6, 2010 at 1:31 am #64464Jon RomeneskoParticipantAfter 4 years on the RTax, and having felt like I had learned & achieved what i wanted to, I moved to a Stock Moto this year. I wanted a new challenge!
I. Love. It.
It’s a totally different ball game than driving a TaG. The whole experience is addicting. So far the maintenance is less than it was with the Rotax…and that’s saying something! It was a little intimidating at first, but i’m starting to get a feel for the wrenching and the driving. After you’ve messed with the Rotax carb, there is nothing to a Moto.
Dooo it, mikey!
October 6, 2010 at 3:45 am #64465David WatkinsParticipantMike – it’d be great to race with you next year. Having run two different TAG packages myself and tuning for others I can say the Spec Moto package is bar none the lowest maintenance package out there. You can be way off on jetting and not hurt the motor. Trust me, you’ll love not having to deal with that ridiculous bicycle chain that Tags run. I enjoyed my time in Tag, but a shifter is just way more fun. I hope the field grows, I’m a heavy guy like you and it would be nice to have a decent sized field.
October 6, 2010 at 4:29 pm #64466cgordonParticipantMike,
I’ll still be running my Spec Shifter next year. I love driving it and it would be great to race with you again. The Heavy class grew this year and I hope that continues next year. A couple of other good Spec Shifter Heavy racers that weren’t mentioned are Jet and Darrell. I agree with what the other Spec Shifter racers said here about maintenance and driving.

Trust me, you’ll love not having to deal with that ridiculous bicycle chain that Tags run.I finally found out about the panther chains (If you run TaG there isn’t any other chain you should use in my opinion) and not once had a problem since using them.
As for the jetting, the Motori has a much bigger sweet spot than any motor I’ve used (unless you’re Gunther and you’re trying to intentionally lean it out to get that extra .05 a lap 8) and then the spectacular KABLAMMO)
I’m really leaning towards banging gears but again, I LOVE the bigger local fields here in the TaG class and that’s the million dollar question, ARE WE GOING HAVE BIG FIELDS HERE IN SPEC HEAVY?
October 6, 2010 at 11:29 pm #64469hotwheels1517ParticipantMike,
If you race spec shifter that adds one to their ranks and minus one for tag. LOL

This year we’ve had combined S2/S4 fields quite often, so there are a bunch of guys to race against..they just might not be in your class. Heck, most of my racing has been with the S4 guys this year! 😆
October 7, 2010 at 4:38 pm #64471cgordonParticipantHey Mike,
The sprockets last forever in the Spec Shifter. I used to wear out sprockets every 3 races or so on my Rotax, but I’m still running the Spec Shifter sprockets I got 3 years ago and they hardly have any wear. Also no batteries to recharge or replace. Plus shifting is just cool – fun to drive even by yourself on test days.
