ParticipantHi Rick,
Looks you all had a great time. I can’t wait to see your videos.
I think you were referring to Giorgio Pantano. It’s pretty impressive that Roman can run with a driver of that caliber.

ParticipantJust to throw gasoline on the fire 👿 – the CSC rules posted on the CSC web page actually don’t specifically say we won’t race in the rain. They say racing in the rain is at the discretion of the race director.
I wonder what happens if half the races are run in the dry then it starts raining?
:crazy
In any case, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be an issue. The latest forecast shows Sunday probably being dry.

ParticipantI’d like to see us race in the rain with whatever new or used rain tires we have. Racing in the rain at the Rotax Grand Nationals was a blast. Of course, I’d like to get more laps out of the YJPs I had to buy for that race.
I know that CSC wasn’t going to race in the rain except for Greeley, but last year at the January mtg we said we would race in the rain and then the CSC rules came out saying we wouldn’t race in the rain (after I bought rain tires and wheels) so it wouldn’t bother me if the rules are changed again. :idn:
I wouldn’t like to see a rain date on the following weekend – too short notice. I’ve already made other plans.

ParticipantSounds like fun. I think I’m free that Sunday, so I’ll contact Sue and let her know I’ll be there.

ParticipantIf you’re not going to be fast you should at least be spectacular. 😳
Raced in the pouring rain today – my first rain race ever in a kart. It’s amazing how fast you can go with rain tires. I need to get a plastic poncho though – I gained 8 lbs during the race due to my driving suit getting soaked. The results could have been better – I picked 6 or 7 spots in the first couple of laps, but I hit a big puddle and my air filter got waterlogged and I went backwards from there. Still, racing in the rain was a lot of fun.

ParticipantHi,
I’m in Iowa on my way to the Rotax Grand Nationals, watching the tornado warnings on TV while I write this. 😯
I saw the DD2s run in Willow Springs and they looked pretty interesting. I’ll take another good look at them in Elkhart Lake and try to talk to a few of the DD2 guys.
If DD2s were included in the CSC, what class would they race with? Are they about the same performance as spec shifter?
What does a DD2 weigh without driver?

ParticipantRacing in the rain is an interesting question. The CSC rules say that declaring a rain race is at the discretion of the Race Director. However, I’ve seen posts that say the only rain races will be at the temporary circuits. I’d prefer that we race if it rains. Maybe Rusty or another CSC official can clarify this. :idn:
P. S. Doesn’t look like much chance of rain tomorrow at Bandimere.
cgordon
ParticipantOh yeah? What about the big boulders laying out in the middle of the road? :zombie

ParticipantI think there should be some enforcement of the chicanes at Bandimere, both the ones before and after the hairpin at the top. In last couple of races at Bandi, I have been pelted by rocks and dirt and my airbox was full of debris at the end of the races, some of which may have gotten through to the motor. Not very pleasant. Also, people have been improving position by jumping the chicanes, which I think is against the CSC rules (6.10.2).
Either hay bales or enforcement by corner worker reports, or both should be used.

ParticipantBY the way, even though I mentioned the Rotax races were spread over 2 days, I am not advocating that for the CSC. I was just expressing a desire for more race laps on a CSC race day.

ParticipantI really like running the CSC series because it’s the most competitive series with the largest fields that you can run in Colorado. I’m favor of tweaking it to continue improving it as opposed to completely revamping it.
I just got back from the Rotax Grand Regionals and one of the things I really liked there was the amount of racing time we got. We had 3 heats, a pre-final and a final, spread over 2 days. At first I thought it seemed kind of silly to have that many races to determine the starting positions for the final, but after it was over I found that I really enjoyed all the racing. There was just enough time between sessions to get the kart ready for the next session.
Eliminating the morning practice in the CSC races and replacing it with an additional heat race would be one way to get us more racing time. Anyone who is competitive in a CSC already has done the testing and knows the setup for the CSC tracks, so the morning practice is not particularly useful. An additional heat race would be more fun and give an additional chance to score points. Besides, this way Mike might actually finish 20 race laps 😀 Another alternative would be to eliminate the practice and just have one heat and the main, but make them longer (say 15 and 25 laps respectively). Of course, under either scenario you would still keep the qualifying session.

ParticipantHi,
I have to disagree that Memorial Day is a bad weekend for racing. In fact, when I raced in California our only two spectator events were Memorial Day and July 4th. We had really big turnouts for those, from participants and spectators.
I’ll leave to others with more marketing expertise to figure out how to get more spectators, but I think Memorial Day is a great weekend for racing. You’ve got 3 days, so you get a day off after the race. Also, everybody used to have their radios going listening to the Indy 500 so everyone was fired up and enthusiastic about racing. We alway had a big barbecue at the track on Saturday evening, so it was a fun social event too.
If you think you need to attract more participants, then I suggest making it a big event by finding sponsors to kick in some prizes or offer bonus points for the race.

ParticipantEverything Rich said is correct. Here’s a link that provides more info, though it’s not specific to the Tire Wiz.
http://reviews.ebay.com/Mounting-racing-go-kart-tires-on-one-piece-wheels_W0QQugidZ10000000001177800You’ll need the Tire Wiz disc, on handle, and off handle.
Dismount:
Put the disc in the short side of the wheel. Attach the off handle to the disc and put the end of the handle between the upper tire bead and the wheel. Rotate the handle and it will work the tire off of the rim. Leave the disc in the wheel and fold the center of the tread. Put the handle between the lower tire bead and the wheel and rotate the handle.Mount:
Push the short side of the wheel through the tire. Flip the wheel over and put the disc through the tire and onto the wheel. Lubricate the bead (Tire Snot). Attach the on handle to the disc. Push down on the side of the tire and rotate the handle.Beading the tire:
Screw your bead locks into the wheel just enough to stop air leakage (the end of the lock shouldn’t stick out above the wheel surface). Put lubricant on the bead (not much). Keep the wheel vertical to avoid injury if the tire or wheel fails. Inflate not more than 50 psi. If the beads don’t pop, put more lubricant on and try again. It all sounds easy, but it takes a bit of practice for it all to go smoothly.

ParticipantI agree with Curt. It’s great that Jim and Brad have given out some “extras” to us racers. Many thanks to both of them.
Thanks to the IMI team for running the races efficiently and getting the whole program finished at a reasonable time. It was kind of nice that TaG Masters ran in the middle of the program so that it was still daylight when we raced! :sun:
While I’m at it, thanks to Doug at Shockwave for putting my sealed Rotax together and to Brad at IMI for helping me with my chassis.
