ParticipantThanks BLINK, I mean Brad, since ‘everyone knows you’. Yeah I see the signature but you dont get my point.
I am just trying to make the forum and all of us ‘users’ easily accesible to any new or potential new karters. New guys (like me) don’t necessarily know Bob Reed is AKA JedClampet and may want to discuss comments in person. Do we want to keep new people in the sport? YES? ..ok then, I am just suggesting a way to help the process out, secret usernames and handshakes for the people that have been around for awhile is NOT the way to make the sport accesible to an outsider.

ParticipantHey Angie…how about a requirement for REAL NAMES on this forum? I would really like to be able to put a name with comments when I am at the races.
Example: I am friends with ‘Gary’ at the Track…however, I can never figure out if it is ‘BoulderG’ or ‘FastG’ when he posts on this forum.
Let’s not hide behind our screen names anymore. This rule works well on ekartingnews and keeps people from hiding behind pseudonyms.
JedClampet, this post is not directed at you but does include you. Nothing personal, just a suggestion.

Participant…it occured to me that if I had a kart to race, I wouldn’t need a sports car for the road. My go-fast urges could be kept to the track and everyone would be safer!
Brian,
This was also my rationale, I sold my WRX and my Ducati. Fewer telephone poles, concrete barriers, and no police oppression of my expression sessions. I am now a MUCH improved member of society with the safe outlet for my sickness. PLUS if you get rid of one of your go-fast toys, you’ll have the extra cash on hand to fill the void with a kart that much quicker.Kirk

ParticipantBrian, welcome. Excellent post.
Regarding your mention of confusion after a week of research…I can relate, which is why i spent over a year trying to find where and what I might like to drive. Okay..let me rephrase..if i had any money i would have blown it a lot sooner on something I might not have been happy with. (I’m now happy i did the research)I found this site to be a great resource.
http://www.ekartingnews.com/NewToKarting/ Sign up as a user over there, jump onto the forums as well.Go to the CSC race tomorrow (sunday) out at Bandimere. Walk around, introduce yourself, ask a BUNCH of questions. Everyone is anxious to share and want new people in the sport. Hopefully you’ll find *cough* Tag Masters will suit your needs. Disclaimer: I race this class (poorly) at the club level in my Easykart 125 and have a blast even while getting lapped. This is my first year racing karts and I never come off the track without a smile on my face. (was that a double negative?)
Good luck, we’ll be here to help.

ParticipantRef Keesling: I was at the race on Sunday and Jim stated that the morning news (not sure which channel) would be there to film a karting segment all morning (monday). Dang job…i could have been on TV..I coulda been a superstar! I guess I missed my one shot at superstardom..the cameras would have had a bunch of shots of me getting lapped again and again and again…
Are there any links to video of the news special?

ParticipantJeff I think I’ll be there to provide the leaders with some practice passing lapped traffic. I am on call this weekend so i am currently searching for someone to take over my pager duties while i am at THE TRACK. I’ll be rolling on old YHC’s and practising my rally driving style…watch out TEAM HARDKART, I am kind of unpredictable. I may try a new line at any time, hahahaha.
Hope to see a bunch of people on Sunday!

ParticipantI’ll spout off about this with my limited knowledge…that should help stir things up on here.
George said the motor was still ‘in testing and development’ when I asked him about it this weekend. An Italian karting magazine had a review of the kart (which would indicate to the buyer that the release was ‘imminent’) but nothing concrete is on the easykart.com website (another of my frequent internet stops). EK America doesnt seem to have a problem posting a picture of the kart on their website as though this were the cornerstone of their karting line. (ha).
Maybe the italians just dont want to release the kart without a guaranteed market for the product…right now, it seems that stock moto is fitting the ‘bang for the buck’ quotient for most american karters.
Cruise on over to http://www.easykart.com/forums and stir things up. Yell at the admin (publicly) that gets their attention.

ParticipantI was one of the ‘new’ racers this weekend and must compliment George and the entire crew. I had a great time this weekend and George was very helpful with spares and technical assitance (brake problem) to get me on the track for my first race at CRE. My daughter (crew chief) had a great time cruising around on her scooter and I never had to worry about her in the pits since there were no karts driving around.
This was the first time i had raced against other Easykarts and was able to compare myself directly…turns out I SUCK! Well, deep down i knew that already, hahah. Easykarts raced against the Rotax International class and it seemed to be a pretty good class mix.
Thanks to all who helped me out and helped keep my daughter occupied. I enjoyed my CRE experience.

Putting it “in the streets” considerably raises the anty. The budget would at least double if not more. It also considerably increases the logistical problems. For example, if we did it in “downtown”, we would be in the position of having to compensate busineses for lost sales. The entire event would have to disappear overnight. For example, the Rock Island GP has to be completely torn down and cleaned up by 2:00am. They have a crew of over 100 people who do it. At Greeley this year, the crew for setup was 4 adults and 6 kids! The tear down crew was 1 adult and 6 kids.
Given our current staff and budget, putting it “in the streets” is out of the question. If we found a sponsor who was willing to pony up $100,000, we might be able to do it. Did I bring up street repair?
Thanks for the clarification, Doug. I had no idea that store owners would require compensation. Obviously that is a huge hurdle to clear. You’ll hear nothing more from me about a streets race. Perhaps the name of the GGP can be changed to remove the ‘street’ reference?

edit: sorry to the thread author. I am did not mean to hijack the thread and turn this into a ‘general’ discussion….back to the Memorial Day discussion.

ParticipantCash Prizes? Well…interesting point, but i will put forward that cash alone will not equal a higher kart count. Take the former Black Rock speedway event which promised a HUGE amount of money (around 30k total, i think) yet NO ONE came…or at least not enough entries to make the event viable. Doug Welch knows more about this than I, perhaps he could comment on this?
Maybe people were put off by the high entry fees needed to generate that kind of large purse? Example: If I don’t think there is any chance of winning a large purse, then where is my incentive to pay drastically more to enter the race?
Thinking out loud.

ParticipantSpectators?!?! I was just happy the Hooters Girls were there to provide some distraction.
No one has mentioned the layout, although I am sure the organizing group will address this. Will it be a real ‘streets’ race where at least PART of the course gets the karts out of the parking lot? Or will this continue to be a temp course setup in the same area?
I enjoyed the race there this year (my first ‘big’ race) and will be back next year.

ParticipantIt’s all about hydraulics and ball bearings these days. Rich uses his ‘action pump’ from the Fascinations ‘race store’. Not sure how that helps the web site though… Maybe rich wants you to add videos? 😆

ParticipantKurt, I like your idea of the restricted 125 shifter class, great idea! I was going to suggest a stock 80 class. What are your thoughts on that vs. the restricted 125? (though the engine commonality kind of answers my question already as a cheaper step from jr. to sr. racing.)
Great suggestions for growing the club events (this is where my heart and wallet will be next year

ParticipantNice site, Brian! That footage is a good ad for the track. I’ll be making my first trip out there very soon and I’m looking forward to it.

ParticipantIn the continued effort of positive constructive discussion: Could the CSC combine the TaG Masters and Tag Juniors in the same heat? Leave the Seniors race for the hotshoes (as a sorta-varsity level). More karts, more passing for the masters and kids? Thoughts?
