ScottyBobby, Let’s start with the crew chief question: I can only speak for myself..YES I have a crewchief. She turns 7 this Saturday.

OK, seriously, it is just nice to have someone in the pit with you to help lifting the kart on/off the stand, helping you turn wrenches, handing you beers at the end of the day, etc. So bring a buddy.

Go to the race at IMI on Sunday and just walk around asking a bunch of questions, everyone is very eager to help someone who is new to this sport. Welcome to Colorado Karting.

The winner of the IAME Challenge race gets to go, and the highest finishing Leopard in TaG Senior gets to go.

Not that I’ve been keeping up, but I don’t get that. Why is it motor specific? What exactly is the IAME challenge?

I used the Google and found this.

Two complete IAME Leopard and two entries to Spain to compete in the IAME International Challenge will be awarded at this years TaG World Championship in Grand Junction, Colorado.
IAME in partnership with their North American distributors Italian Motors and Russell Karting will be sponsoring the winning driver from the IAME Challenge class as well as the highest finishing Leopard in TaG Senior to a trip to Europe to compete for their country in the IAME International Challenge.

The 2008 IAME International Challenge will take place in Spain on November 8th and 9th at the Circuit of Alcaniz. The winners will be provided with a FA Kart (one per team), tires, fuel, and entry fees along with an IAME X30 motor package. IAME also provides each team with a mechanic for technical and mechanical assistance. The endurance race is run over the course of six hours. Three hours Saturday and the final three concluded on Sunday. The winning team will be the one that has completed the most laps over the course of the two race sessions. The winning driver will be responsible for flights, international licensing, food and accommodations.
In 2007, it was David Jurca and David Zippie filling the two spots. Both drivers travelled to Spain where they had the opportunity to meet Formula One World Champion Fernando Alonso. Jurca would go on to win the prestigious IAME International Challenge along with team mate Michael Hogg.

This years TaG World Championship is taking place at Grand Junction Speedway in Colorado on September 18, 19, 20 & 21. I prefer a small child. Mine keeps complaining of getting burned on the exhaust. I tell her it will toughen her up and to get back to work. Dunk the child’s hands in Catrol Super Clean to and tell them to make sure not to miss the spots between the sprocket and frame rails. It will take the top layer of dermis off, but, again–toughens them up.

Well Mike, we missed you at the last CSC race. I did some more searching on the web and found you lurking out by your shed. Nice socks.

Scott, I watched the show (thanks for the heads up). It was really well done, kind of freaked me out about being awake during brain surgery! I was watching with a friend who manages care for seniors and she had just spoken with your surgeon that day (Dr. Kumar?) about one of her patients who has similair symptoms. Glad you are doing so much better now. See you at the track.

I don’t know what the ‘optimal’ lengths are, but my flex length is about 85mm, I leave that one on all the time. Use that number as an example of a long piece (bottom end heavy). Shorten up the flex from there for the longer tracks that require more top end. I’m just too lazy to swap mine out all the time. I cut mine with a chop saw with a metal cutting blade..then you can smooth the ends with the same spinning blade…danger is my middle name. Wear eye protection.

Chuck will be the Team HARDKart rep for the TaG seniors and I’ll be holding up my end in TaG Fat. Once I got my seat mounted correctly it was like I had a whole new kart, it actually TURNED instead of plowing the front. That only took me 2 and 1/2 seasons to figure out.

Tony, I had a battery problem this week, too. I bought two yesterday. You can use one of mine for the race if you don’t have time to pick one up. I’ll be pitting right next to you Sunday and will be out there today practising.

Before you start, download THIS .pdf document. Browse to page 35 or so and print out the 4 pages dealing with starter brush replacement. Every step is clearly pictured and explained, they also show a handy tip for keeping the brushes in place when you slide the rotor into place.

The process is fairly simple, I spent the most time digging all of the old silicone out with a razor blade and a small screwdriver. Hope this helps.

I’m in the process of replacing mine now. I had to buy an impact screwdriver to get the housing separated from the mount (worked like a champ, btw). I was afraid of stripping the screws out and that tool was the KEY. I also found out it is ALOT easier to remove the motor from the chassis to take that starter motor out as far as getting access to the allen bolts holding it to the motor. I’ll be putting in the new brushes on Saturday and will pass along any tips I can figure out.
