Greg and I are in the land of cheese heads. The local restaurant has a Friday night special, all the Northern Pike you can eat! It’s the Rotax Grand Nationals.
It was a very uneventful trip through the heartland of the nation. At least diesel was less on the road than it is at home, as low as $3.89.
The track looks like a roller coaster in a field of green grass. It should fit Greg’s driving style as its a series of medium/low/high speed turns. Long, but no real straight. The on track stuff starts tomorrow. I’ll try to give updates as we have internet access at the track.

September 6, 2008 at 12:12 pm #61946Doug WelchParticipantJust a quick morning update. As far as I know, Brian and Greg are the only drivers from Colorado. There were 47 entered in Greg’s class. I don’t know how many in Mini-Max but I do know it’s not a full field. So far it’s dry but I’m sure we will see some rain before this thing is over.

Have fun and good luck. Look forward to your updates. Best of luck to Brian as well.
Say Cheeeeeeeeese!!
EddySeptember 6, 2008 at 4:50 pm #61948Doug WelchParticipantJust getting ready for the third session. Things went well in the first, we were passing people. That’s a good sign. Coming off, a balance gear broke and we missed the second.
September 6, 2008 at 5:21 pm #61949Doug WelchParticipant3rd done. Kart is ripping fast. We left the group behind us and closed on the group in front. Passed several along the way. Some of the fast guys were slower than us. Don’t know times yet. Now its lunch break, we are going to change ride height for a little more grip in the rear.
September 6, 2008 at 6:13 pm #61950Kirk DeasonParticipantKick ass you guys! We’re rooting for you.
September 7, 2008 at 2:54 am #61951Doug WelchParticipantIn the last sessions we slowed down a bit. We made changes to both chassis and jetting. We went the right way with the chassis, the wrong way with the jetting. We were slow off the slow corners. The data showed the kart quicker at mid corner but the motor was dying on pickup. We made some more changes and will see how they do.
Jetting is sure different when you have air!

Keep up the good work, Kartworks is rooting for Shockwave this week. Last time I raced that track I had to take a hacksaw to the 50mm to keep the kart free. 😉 Remember to check the cir. of tires when mounting, and use that nose on the front of the kart, or BUMPER at that level of karting.
Good luck
September 8, 2008 at 12:30 am #61953Doug WelchParticipantWhat a day! It ended very well. We put a time down in the last session that should put us in the top 5. But we had to work our tails of to get there. The morning started with our primary kart’s motor not wanting to pull off the slow corners. That’s a killer here. We switched to the back up kart and it ran very good. So we switched motors to the primary kart and dropped a quick 2 seconds. But we were still 1 second off. There is a kid in our tent who sent quick time for the day so we knew were we needed to be.
We made a few more changes, plus, Greg is finally coming to grips with the track. In the last two sessions, Greg was really passing people. In fact, we didn’t get passed all day. By the end, we were passing 10 to 15 guys per session. We have a bit more to get from the kart and we think we know where to get it. I think we can get a bit more from Greg too.
Brian is doing very well. He’s still 3 seconds off but he dropped 3 seconds today! Before this is over, I’m sure he will do well.

Sounds like a Friday night fish fry to me. The local delicacy! 😆
Hope you brought your rain gear. Rain this time of year in Wisconsin is almost a guarantee. Have fun with it, USAIR looks like a fabulous track.
Good luck guys, we’ll all be rooting for you from our computers…we know you can do really well!
September 8, 2008 at 2:22 pm #61955AnonymousInactiveGood luck Shockwave.
We are pulling for you.
As far as local eats go, we lived there for 2 years, you must try the frozen custard. The best there is.
September 8, 2008 at 2:31 pm #61956Jon RomeneskoParticipantAnd Cheese Curds!
