    Sounds like a Friday night fish fry to me. The local delicacy! 😆

    Hope you brought your rain gear. Rain this time of year in Wisconsin is almost a guarantee. Have fun with it, USAIR looks like a fabulous track.

    Good luck guys, we’ll all be rooting for you from our computers…we know you can do really well!

    Stacey,
    I have been using Ms98 and motul 800 in our CSC series @ 32:1 and I am pretty sure it was allowed in Rotax’s last year at the World event.
    I think we have to have a Tag USA membership, will we be able to purchase that there? Is our CSC races considered qualifications to race in the Tag Worlds?
    I just didn’t see the CSC series being listed as one of the qualifying series used for participation.

    Exactly what i’m wondering!

    I’m really really looking forward to High Plains. If they can pull off what they’re trying to pull off, it will be awesome! $3.5 million raised for it, 660k from individuals is impressive. All of the car clubs here really want a car track close to Denver (ha!)…i know personally that a lot of members from the Porsche Club have put a ton of time into this.

    I honestly thought this wasnt gonna happen. The original CAMA operation fell flat on its face only a couple months into the process. They originally targeted opening HPR in September, IIRC. Better late than never! The track looks fun with all the elevation changes, and the facility could be really nice too. Just wish i could make the groundbreaking ceremony.

    Second Creek used to be an old stomping ground for my Dad & I….Pueblo is a fun track (fast…needs repaving badly), never been to LaJunta (its hot there?), CDR/Mead was lots of fun (but they killed that too), and i’ve only spectated at PPIR. Coincidentally, the reason we went kart racing was because they were taking away all of our big car tracks. Now i wouldnt leave. 😀

    I think a kart race at HPR would be really good, they could use some of the cutoffs to make it a little less of a high speed drafting chess match. 😆 Road racing looks like fun…but i think i’ll need a shifter for that.

    Regardless, I can’t wait to get the 944 Turbo out on HPR…looks like a blast! :~

    Heh….so true. You should see our trips to Grand Junction! 😯

    But don’t knock it till you’ve tried it! Our trusty ‘ol Town & Country Performance Kart Hauler is still the most aerodynamic, fuel efficient kart hauler in the paddock! 8)

    Although…those high-mileage Sprinters look very very tempting. Especially the one with the sleeper. Hmm….perhaps it’s time to upgrade to a real van? :loony:

    Heh….

    I’ve been doing this for 3 years now, and since day one i’ve been loading my kart into the back of a minivan. :loony:

    I think you’ll be OK with a Cargo Van (of course, we do have to take the rear wheels and sidepods off…and move in the front track all the way)….. 😛

    After 3 years of that, my Dad and i have gotten pretty good at it! We can tear down our entire camp in 30 mins max!

    Of course, after 3 years….things are starting to get a little cramped. You seem to accumulate more and more ‘stuff’ in this sport.

    Maybe I should look into a trailer one of these days…… 😉

    Sounds like this deal effects mostly Jr. cylinders, but i guess they’re urging everyone to get things checked out. Doug, should all Rotax competitors wishing to stay RMax legal get this checked out?

    I suppose at the very least there could be a classroom session. Either that, or we practice driving in the cold and wet! Bring your driving parkas!

    Chain tension is kind of an art, i’ve found. It just takes experience to know ‘whats good’ and whats not. A lot of it depends on your motor mount and how you tighten it. It’s annoying at first, but you’ll figure it out! 🙂

    Definitely make sure you have the support plate installed on your clutch, that will prolong the life of the posts. Might seem kind of expensive at first, but (speaking from experience) its worth it to invest in a spare clutch. Broken posts on a clutch could take you out for a weekend, and a spare clutch will make it so you don’t throw away all that hard spent money for the weekend’s race!

    Also of note, take the clutch drum off periodically and clean it out. Especially after you’ve had an offroading experience, dirt & grime tends to find its way in there and would contribute to things locking up….not to mention premature wear. Try to avoid spraying brake cleaner in the holes while its still on the kart, as you could wash away some of the lubricant on the clutch drum bearing, but that’s better than nothing in a pinch. I’ve also found that the Rotax clutch will sometimes lock up when it’s hot – so if your clutch is locked up when you come off the track, dont freak out! – but when things cool off it goes back to normal.

    Rick will help you out massively! Listen to what he has to say! :cheers:

    I’m gonna have to side with Greg, Doug, and Jeff on this one. Never been a fan of neck braces, driving without one is worlds better.

    I’ve always thought that a traditional foam neck collar could even exacerbate a neck injury, acting like a fulcrum in an impact, and cause a hyper-extension injury. I’d trust Dr. Terry Trammell’s word over just about anyone else’s on this subject.

    Motorcycle road racers (MotoGP, AMA Superbikes, etc) wear no neck protection of any kind, and they experience impacts similar (although far far more violent) to what you’d expect from karting, and you rarely see neck injurys.

    Now, neck braces like the Leatt Brace i can get behind, the design makes sense.

    I’m all in favor of dropping neck collars, for what its worth.

    Good thing you caught it! It’s generally a good idea to refuse a sale unless you can actually meet this person face to face, or at least talk to them on the phone. Be especially wary of big ticket items (like a chassis)…its amazing how many people will try to take you to the cleaners. Be careful!

    1. Ethanol is listed as a known human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.

    Yup, ever had Everclear? 😉 Ethanol is simply a grain alcohol, just like most of your hard liquor. You can actually drink 100% Ethanol (but it wouldnt taste very good…), the same stuff you would burn in your car. Thats part of the reason why you don’t see 100% ethanol used as a fuel. The ATF requires at least a 1% concentration of gasoline to act as a denaturant (so the Indycar series boasts about using E100…its actually E99), that, and 100% Ethanol burns with a clear flame.

    @Greg Welch wrote:

    2. The cost of Reformulated Gasoline with ethanol will increase 3-6 cents per gallons compared to RFG with MTBE.

    True, but MTBE has been banned in CO (and a lot of other states…) for a long while now. It makes the groundwater taste funny….

    @Greg Welch wrote:

    6. It takes 1.5 gallons of ethanol (E-85) to drive as many miles as one gallon of gasoline.

    Like Kurt said, its more like 20%. Ethanol just simply doesnt contain as many BTUs as Gasoline, so you just cant make as much power or drive as far on it.

    @Greg Welch wrote:

    9. Ethanol permeates the hoses and lines of automobile fuel systems resulting in a 50% increase in VOC emissions for pre 1995 cars.

    Do NOT fill up your car with E85 if it’s not designed for it! Even if it will run, the seals, gaskets, and fuel lines are not designed for an alcohol based fuel, the E85 will destroy a bunch of the rubber components in your fuel system faster than you can say ‘what smells like corn?’. The ‘Flex Fuel’ vehicles you see running around have specially formulated seals, gaskets, etc that are designed to handle E85. (you can actually convert the fuel system on an existing vehicle to handle E85, should you desire)

    Ethanol is not the miracle fuel (IMO) that everyone makes it out to be. It’s an interesting alternative, and the fact that it is renewable is a nice bonus. However, did you know that theres just not enough land (or crops, for that matter) in the US to grow enough fuel to power all the vehicles on the road (that is, if every vehicle was running E85)? Personally, i would rather grow my food over here, and import my fuel….but thats just me!
