ParticipantHad a rental kart out there on Sunday (’cause mine isn’t finished yet :bang ), the new diamond grinding is smoooooth. Very nice, thanks for doing that, Jim. I also approve of filling in the culvert. Can’t wait to get out there on my kart!

I got an email about a track day for founding contributers on the 28th. I don’t know if anybody here had contributed but figured I’d post it up in case.
I emailed them back asking wether or not karts would be allowed for this track day, we’ll see what the reply is. I know Peak Eurosports is listed as a founding sponsor for the track, so maybe they can put some leverage on them to let some of us out there.
Mr Romenesko, you taking the 944 out for this? Since I no longer have a viable tin top car to take out for this my previous offer of beer or gas still stands if they don’t let karts out for this one. 😀
Wow, Doug…you are on top of things, I was just going to email them and ask if Karts could come out to play. Sadly, the 951 won’t be trackable in time for this (might need a steering rack, among other things), but I have a set of sticky Yokohamas that i can put on my daily-driven, 190k mile 3-series BMW that would still give me some smiles. It is $150, though…that’s almost a new set of race tires (and i’m still unemployed)!
They need to let the Karts come out and play so we can whet our appetite for big-track road racing. :devil
Regardless, i’ll still be out there, whether it is to just watch or play. If you haven’t been out to HPR yet, get yer butt in your car and drive out there, what a track! :driver

ParticipantArgh. This sucks, i’m still unemployed (laid off in Nov)! If this keeps up much longer, my racing budget is going to be even more shoestring this season. To make matters worse, my Dad is unemployed too (also laid off). I need sponsors….
But when I do race, it will probably be in a Rotax series (still undecided on which one) in Rotax International/Senior. The Rotax Max Challenge seems the most cost-effective to me, thanks to the longevity/consistency of the new D2 Mojos. Sounds like you can honestly run up front on used tires, and they only drop off by a couple tenths after multiple heat cycles. That’s a winner to me. MG Yellows are great, but they get too expensive.
Maybe a couple of TaG races if I find employment. Really would like to get over to Grand Junction this year, I love it there. The temp-track race on the Racing The Rockies tour is something i really want to do, too. Really itching to get out, I haven’t been in a kart since the Machismo 500 at the Supernats in November! 😥
It is very tempting to spend my unemployment money on tires. Hmm…. 😆

ParticipantSeriously, this is the end-all-be-all of race suit cleaners. The before/after pictures on the website are actually the results you get. A little spendy at $42, but worth every penny (it lasts a while too, i’m still on my first kit after 6 washes or so). My suit looks brand new!
….ok Molecule Labs, there’s your endorsement, where’s my sponsorship money?! (haha, i wish :loony: )

ParticipantJamie was a lot of fun to watch at the supernats. He was part of a 4 kart scrap for the lead in the S3 main that was one of the best races i’ve ever seen! He’s one heck of a kart racer.
Great to see an article about karting right on NASCAR.com, thanks for the link!

ParticipantMemo Gidley, Jamie McMurray, Dan Wheldon, Buddy Rice, Michael Valiente, Arie Luyendyk Jr, Phil Geibler, Bobby Wilson….
And those were just the pro racers….there was a huge amount of pro karters too…
Marco Ardigo, Jonathan Thonon, Gary Carlton, Alex Speed….
What an event! My first time to the supernats, and i was just blown away by the deep level of talent that showed up. 400+ entries, and none of them were slow. At one point (think it was during practice) 60 (sixty!) TaG senior drivers were within one second of P1! 😯 The SuperPro guys put on a show worthy of their own event, some incredible talent in that field. You really have to see it to believe just how good those guys are. Thonon won all the marbles, deservingly so, he was just about the fastest man all week.
All-in-all, we had a great showing for CO drivers. Stacey Cook took 5th in G1 after being one of the fastest G1 drivers all week. Austin Schimmel drove brilliantly to a 3rd in S5. Ben Schermerhorn had a hell of a drive going in S1 (up to 6th, i believe) before he bent some steering components (not sure what happened) and couldn’t keep pace. The Welch boys were fast in S3, but ran into some bad luck. Merely surviving the TaG classes was a victory in and of itself….i think there were some 6-7 red flags over the weekend. Most of them were in TaG senior, it was just a wreck-fest! Seemed like we couldn’t get through one heat race (much less the first lap) without a massive pileup and a red flag. A couple drivers had to go to the hospital….it was brutal.
I got some track time in the ‘Machismo 500’ enduro they held on Saturday night (which was a blast). It was a fun track, and im sure its wicked fast on a shifter.
I had a great time helping out Kartworks. If you’ve never been to the SuperNats, you need to go. There were some huge sponsors like Oakley and the National Guard who really stepped up and made it feel like the huge race it should be. The racing was some of the best ive seen, regardless of the discipline. The S3 drivers put on one of the most exciting races ive ever seen (probably 5 or 6 lead changes over 30 laps between 4 drivers, and the top 4 were never more than .5 sec apart), and there were some great last-lap heroics in every class.
Its now on my calendar every year for the foreseeable future, only next year, i think im going to have to race instead of tune. 😀

ParticipantI’ll be there
Not driving, sadly. I’ll be there helping out Team Kartworks and the rest of the Coloradans. This will be my first trip to the SuperNats…can’t wait!
If you need to find me, i’ll be next to the slot machin……i mean, i’ll be next to the blue karts…. 😉

ParticipantHey Stacey…what about tires? I assume you’ll have all of the different brands for sale at the track? Or do we need to order them in advance?
