ParticipantCurt,
I will try again after attempting twice to respond to the thread and after seeing another thread started on the topic………..I appreciate your offer to host a regional kart racing forum to discuss Colorado kart racing and the future of the sport in our state and region. I agree that the meeting should be as soon as the current statewide season ends and would suggest a Saturday date that might be easier for some to attend but whatever the majority agrees on. I would also suggest that a moderator would be helpful to keep the meeting on course and subject. We should go forward with a meeting for ALL inspite of who may agree or disagree with the purpose. The forum should be open to all of the track owners and obviously the CSC reps since they are one and the same that want to participate, as well as the kart shop owners and a reasonable number of knowledgable and experienced kart racers. This is 2006 and ALL involved in our sport are important to the future success and growth of the sport in our state.
Once again, this is 2006 not 2000……the karting landscape in the state and region for that matter have changed substantially. There are now FIVE karting facilities in the state not just one. There are four other track owners who have heavily invested in the sport in the region. The population of the state and region have NOT declined over this period of time but the number of kart racers most certainly have.
Kart racing is an individual sport but a karting event and program is a collective team effort. A prospective kart racer without a supplier/ service center and a kart track is just a prospect. A kart shop owner without prospective racers and kart track is a bankrupt business……and of course a track owner without competitors and suppliers has just an empty field and a wasted investment.
Brian Davis, alias “The Owl” , an outsider looking in, who wants to become involved said a mouthful regarding his novice view of the Colorado karting scene and speaks to the frustrations of those that are already involved and those that would like to become involved but who have already turned their backs on the mindless confusion of the sport within our state and region. Brian Davis has spoken for what I believe is the silently majority in the state.
I am a track and kart shop owner……..I am here to say that our sport is BIGGER and has FAR more potential than the opinions of one track owner. We ALL are only one piece of a potentally larger and more successful karting scene in Colorado…….we ALL are important to the future of the sport and SHOULD BE heard!

ParticipantRick, Doug & Blink,
The thread was about the diminishing number of club racers at the front ranges three tracks that host club racing. As you mentioned Doug, Action Karting no longer hosts club racing which was or has been a pretty intelligent move by JB.It is pointless and counter productive to attempt to stir up anger in an effort to divert a positive discussion, that is generally where topics on this forum go when certain folks want to control the thought s and directions of others on this forum. No insult was meant in regards to JB and Action Karting.
Once again this forum is a place to kick around ideas but not a place to conduct busuiness. If you are serious about making reforms in Colorado karting then help establish a meeting for all and then particpating in the process. Otherwise it is just more of the same old same old……
George Durdin
ParticipantDoug,
This thread is about holding a public meeting of ALL of the principles within a reasonable amount of time to take positive and assertive measures to improve the quality of karting and growth of the sport in 2007 and beyond.Trying to stir the pot is old, unuseful and hopefully politics of the past. I am sure that JB is proud to say that he operates the best and most profitable rental track on the front range.
Lets try to stay positive and move forward with solid reform.
George Durdin
ParticipantBlink,
I’m glad that you agree there are problems and a need to find solutions. Lets have the discussions face to face, with ALL of the parties involved in an open public meeting and at a neutral site…..with no alcohol involved. We save that for after the program. The purpose of the forum will be to establish a foundation for future co-operation amongst the track owners/promoters, the kart shops, the CSC Rep’s and the kart racers. All of the issues won’t be resolved in one meeting but a steering committee representing the interests of all could be established and areas of concern identified and dealt with one by one. The issues need to be addressed and dealt with by at least January first so that there is a solid foundation for the 07 season.
The Colorado Karter forum is not the place to do business. It is a place to exchange thoughts and ideas that rarily results in any real actions. It is too easy for some to get on line and say anything because it is to easy to hide.

ParticipantTo All,
Rich Vito’s numbers for the three front range tracks speaks for itself.
There are NO WINNERS, most of all for the kart racers who are involved in the sport for fun, recreation and the rare few Colorado youngsters that can use the sport as a stepping stone to potential professional aspirations. This is 2006…..I would like to think that the future and potential of the sport in Colorado is MUCH bigger and BRIGHTER and I would like to say this respectfully, than one track owners point of view. That track owner is to be commended for his past efforts to develope kart racing in the Denver metro area over the past 15 years but once again this is 2006 and the landscape has changed significantly and an exciting new day has come that calls for thinking outside of the box and looking to the future.
The challenge has been made and the gaunlet laid down to hold a centrally located meeting by LATE October, that would once again include ALL track owners or at least those that see the need to work for the future of kart racing in Colorado, CSC representatives, the states kart shop owners and a reasonable number of experienced and knowledgable representatives for the regions kart racers. Once again CRE Motorsports will be there to work with others for the good of the sport in Colorado and the racers to establish a Colorado Kart Industry Counsel, to use Mr. Feiburg’s nominclature.
The Greeley Grand Prix Committee has shown that there are those outside of the karting business in metro Denver to help with leadership in terms of locating a time and location for such a meeting. I would ask that someone else would step up that sees the need for this measure to help with the logistics.
Nothing more needs to be said about past experiences….it is 2007 and beyond that we should be concerned with.

ParticipantRich,
There are NO WINNERS in the numbers that you’ve reported for the last club race weekend for each of the front range’s three legitimate kart racing facilities. These numbers will not continue to support racing at any of the three tracks and puts the future of the CSC in serious doubt IF all of the tracks went to strictly commercial operations. The front range has a population base that is 4 million or more but the sport is so fragmented that it continues to chase away prospective kart racers because of all of the politics and divisions involved.
The 2006 season should be over for all of the programs by mid to late October. I will lay down the gauntlet by calling for a centrally located summit meeting, by LATE October, that would include ALL of the states track owners, CSC representatives, the states kart shop owners and a reasonable number of knowledgable representatives for the regions kart racers. CRE Motorsports will be there to work for the good of the sport and the racer.
It is time to put an end to the petty bickering and foolishness in an effort to unite kart racing programs in the state under one united banner for the benefit of All involved, the track owners, the future of the CSC, the kart shop owners and most of all for the end users….the kart racers!
This should be interesting……………..George Durdin
ParticipantKurt,
I agree, the rush to announce the product and then to delay it’s release has been disappointing, frustrating and is uncharacteristic of Birel and IAME. Apparently they felt that additional testing of the package was necessary. Of course the unfortunate delay can also serve to increase the consumers anticipation of the release of the product. I believe that it is better to release a new package in the off season.
For the most part there really haven’t been any shortages of EK 60, 100 or 125 parts. The chassis is a Birel R31 with plenty of US sources for parts and EK America has kept a good supply of engine parts with the exception of lean jets which were developed for high altitude by Dave Galegor of Aurora. I don’t believe that parts for the new EK shifter will be a problem once they are released and established in the market.
The Rotax DD2 is not a true shifter, with only two ranges and should not be judged against the EK 125 TaG SEALED spec shifter or the unsealed spec Honda 125 shifter. The Rotax DD2 and EK125 have been designed to compete in sealed spec racing classes.
I believe the new package WILL hit the market in late November or early December.George Durdin
ParticipantKurt,
As of 3:00 PM today, EK America exoects the EK125 TaG shifter, to be in country by the end of November. EK America has refused to update the projections most recently because of continued delays by Birel Birel IT indicates that the delay has been caused by continued testing of the package….the Italians are also normally on a country wide vacation this time of year. Not a bad concept…..lets all just go on a one month vacation at one time!George Durdin
ParticipantTimberwolf,
CRE put up $1,000.00 cash award to the champion of the class this season to attract racers to help build the program and had none until Clara Toby, Angie Atkinson, Sara Schimmel and Nikki Cucuzza, a World Formula racer in 05, stepped up to take the challenge. It has enlivened the class and given the women a place to compete against each other. We have reduced the class weight to 320 lbs. to accomodate them. I don’t want to mess with the ladies efforts to establish a class for themselves, they have shown very good racing skills, talent and competitive spirit. Make that a LOT of spirit and good racing !!
Bring me at least four men that want to go mano e mano and you’ve got a class. The World Formula is a great package, that is low tech, at an affordable price for entry level racers whether they are men or women. We are considering the WF package to replace the Blue Wazoom in our Spec Jr.II class for 12 to 15 yeat olds in 07.
We appreciate your interest in and support of the W. Formula !George Durdin
ParticipantMichael,
You maybe enjoying the ” Hooters”picture……but it is your picture, in uniform and armed that has made its way to page 66 of the June issue of National Kart News and a short article about your participation in Rotax racing in Colorado. You’ve made national karting news………..
Hang in buddy………ALL of your Colorado karting family are looking forward to your return to the track!George Durdin
ParticipantThere have been NO blueprinted Comer 50’s sealed and the seal does not guarantee that any suspect Comer 50 won’t be throughly broken down, inspected and disqualified if illegal The Comer 50 can compete at virtually every track in the state and region with the exception of IMI. It is unfortunate that such drastic measures have to taken in an educational class.

I was so busy…….I forgot to ask you for a copy. Could you mail one down to me?
Thanks………

ParticipantAngie,
Thank you……….
Now lets talk about karting instead of each other………George Durdin
ParticipantMark,
You had a very good day for your first event given the limited amount of time and practice that you had on the kart. I’m glad that you were able to get hooked up with Dennis Dyer the original owner of the kart……I’m sure that he had some tips and advise to give you on the set up.
I’m looking forward to seeing you before the next event.
Take care……….
