ParticipantTom,
My apologizes for not getting back to you sooner, I was busy over the weekend hosting our final WKA race of the 07 season. The World Formula is alive and thriving at CRE. We started the 07 season with 9 Juniors, 5 Powder Puffs and 7 seniors; the Junior class grew to 12 strong while the ladies and senior classes did slip BUT still hold promise for 2008 with renewed late season interest. The WF package is a great, low cost entry level class for Juniors from 12 to 15, ladies who may have an interest in karting but are put off with the noise or high performance of the current market of TaG engines and of course it makes for a VERY affordable package for guys on a tight budget.
There is definitely a place in karting for a 60 year old, 6′ 5″ at 230 lbs. BUT honestly your weight would be a real hinderance to your competitiveness in the WF Senior class. I would suggest that you come out to CRE for a tour and a FREE test drive on a 28hp Easykart 125 demo kart when you arrive in the Pikes Peak region. This is going to be a program to watch in 2008 as it makes a rebound on to the national market. The EK125 is a TOTALLY spec karting package that is VERY low tech, VERY low maintenance, VERY flexible, VERY fast and VERY affordable for a racer of your size and age. A completely race ready kart, with full graphics is $4,495.00 with used packages available for $2,500.00 to 3,000.00. I would suggest that you visit http://www.easykart.com for further information and pictures of the karts.
Please call me at 719-749-9840 to arrange for a tour and test drive when you arrive in the area.

ParticipantSoCo Members,
Thanks Joe………I truly appreciate you and your families support and the members that participated in Sundays 07 WKA CSSC Series finale. We were very fortunate to have a beautiful Indian Summer day this late in October. Must be part of global warming? With the Rotax Challenge out of the way and most of the class championhips wrapped up it made it fun to shake up the format with some new challenges. The racers ran plenty of laps, with 15 lap prefinals and 25 to 30 lap features. The running LeMans starts sure shook up the starting order and made the feature events a little more exciting.
I also want to thank Lisa Pergeau and Julie Edmunds for volunteering at the last minute for filling in for Kathy Christensen in timing and scoring; they did a very nice job of keeping the program on schedule. Also many thanks to Phil Layton for filling in for Scott Christensen as our EMT/Paramedic for the day.
Once again many thanks to the SoCo CRE membership for your participation and making the 07 WKA season a success. The 07 CRE Rotax Challenge had to be one of the most competitive series in the country as the racers competed for a place on the CRE Rotax Team for the Grand Nationals. The World Formula package solidified itself in the CRE class structure for 08 as the Jr. class soared and the competition was fierce. The memberships participation and support are what the program possible. I hope to see you all at the banquet in January.

ParticipantPhil,
Does this mean that you are going to give up your boring and dullingly slow job as the Pikes Peak Hillclimb Director that watches paint dry on those ulta slow mo corners, at 12,000’up,for the 1320 feet”?
Ian………just make sure that your health and life insurance are paid up to date and in good standing. It sounds as though Dad may have other plans to strap you on a rocket!!George Durdin
ParticipantScott,
It sounds as though you may have a short in the starter brush wires, The wires will fray from vibration and then short out against the starter housing and completely drain even the best of batteries.Rotax service bulletin 2005-30 recommends filling in the terminal area where the wires are soldered to the positive pole with silicon to stabilize the brushes and reduce the fraying of the brushes. DO NOT use an acetate containing silicon because this could lead to rust at the terminal.
This repair and preventive maintenance of the brushes should also work on the Parilla Leopard starter as they are the same part used by Rotax.

ParticipantCRE Membership,
Many thanks to all who participated in Saturday’s second round of the 2007 SoCo Rotax Challenge sponsored by Falcon Auto Service and the Edmunds family. The high level of competition in all of the classes, the excitement and anticipation of the event made it a pleasure to host. I would also like to thank those that are behind the scenes that really work well together to make the event a success; Kathy Christensen, T&S, Scott Christensen, EMT, Angie Atkinson, Registrant, Dave Crosby, Technician and Ben Griffen, corner worker.Patrick Herpich, Corrie Hiatt and Austin Schimmel and Colby Meek gave us incredibly exciting and close racing in the Cadet Jr. Sportsman I & II classes. ColbyMeek, Adam Pergeau and Branden Whitman put on a great show in the new and swelling Jr. World Formula class as did Chelsea Wyatt, Angie Wilde and Bailey Edmunds in the WF Powder Puff class. The Rotax classes, with 34 entries overall, show an incredible depth of talent in each class, with the most notable being Colby Meek, Austin Schimmel and Garrett Edmunds in Mini Max; Jesse Toby, Ian layton and CJ Prue in the Juniors; Graham Dillon, Pat Rosse, DavidChapel, Seth Chapa and Winston DeWardt in International and the Viagra class of Sana Bhatti, Matt Mandino,Gunter DeSanti, Eddy Wyatt and Mark Krivanek. It is exciting to hear and see the level of competition amped up this years for the Rotax Grand Nationals. Any of these racers are capable of winning their class championships. Thanks to all of you for your hard fought but clean racing that made it an event to remember.
We are exciited about the 2007 season and can’t wait until our next event on Sunday, June 17th…….we hope to see you and many more new faces for the season.

Participantrsotak,
A date hasn’t been established because of the shakey weather that we’ve experienced so far this season. Late March and early April is a real crap shoot as far as trying to schedule any event.
We will have date light savings time for March 25th, The Track has their first event scheduled for April 1st and April 8th is Easter. I would prefer to have the Inspection/Practice date at least two weeks before our first event on the 22nd. Please drop me an email regarding your preferences and suggestions.
I would also recommend that we include a Swap Meet in this event.George Durdin
ParticipantTo All,
The website schedule should be updated by the end of the week to reflect the date changes and a few other minor issues. Please call 719-749-9840 or drop me an email if you have any others questions.George Durdin
ParticipantThanks Angie………

Participantrsotak,
It only makes sense to compete on the national spec tire (MOJO”S) with the national championships in our backyard. The performance of the MOJO’s will be monitored through out the Challenge series to determine whether they will be continued in competiton in the WKA CSSC series following the conclusion of the Challenge Series.George Durdin
ParticipantBlink,
As a self appointed visionary that thinks outside of the box you really should do your due diligence before sticking your foot in your mouth, especially in this age of information technology. Absolutely everyone, including Honda will agree that their engines are made for general purpose use. Your assertion that Comer engines are just weedeater and general purpose engines, of poor quality is untrue and unfounded.I would suggest that if anyone out there wants to know more about Comer KART racing engines that you visit http://www.comer-topkart.it and get the information from the horses mouth instead of the other end.
Comer-Topkart is located in Bagnola, Italy and has been involved in the production of kart racing engines and chassis’ since 1990. You can also visit http://www.zipkart.com in the UK were the they build and SEAL the W60 for MSA competition. Apparently there are other visionaries that think outside of the box who have beaten you to the punch….and they have done it internationally.
A boxstock Comer K 80 junior kart racing engine, including a factory clutch can be purchased and sealed for approximately $815.00. The Comer rod is good for better than 60 hours with recommended top ends at 15 to 20 hour intervals…..that is four top ends before replacing the crank and rod. Many of them are very competitive well beyond recommended service intervals.
The Honda GX200 engine, that you are purchasing for $360.00 to 380.00 wholesale and then propose to modify for a Junior class is WAY too much engine to give an 8 to 9 year old entry level racer. These are the same engines that you are using for your rental fleet to push adults around your track at 45 to 55 miles an hour……..have you considered how fast they are going to be on a cadet chassis at 230 lbs.?

ParticipantJim & Tony,
Leopards use the same starter as the Rotax Fr125. As a service center, we received a bulletin from Bombardier that solved the problem.Fill in the area around were the positive carbon brush wire is soldiered to the positive pole with silicon, to dampen vibration, that frays the wiring. Do not use a silicon with acetate because this could lead to rust at the terminal. It ‘s not a bad idea to take this protective measure with new engines and starters to help avoid the problem. This fix worked with for us.

ParticipantCurt & All,
I appreciate your efforts, under difficult circumstances to organize the meeting even if it didn’t meet it’s original intention. At least it brought the CSC principles, CRE, a couple of the kart shop owners and a fair number of racers togther for a somewhat open forum. At least eveyone now knows who the CSC is and how it conducts it’s business. It’s unfortunate that I wasn’t given the opportunity to make the presentation that I had hoped for but at least some information was shared and seeds planted for future discussions. Also thanks to Rusty for stepping up to find a location and making the necessary arrangements. It was nice to finally meet Mike Jansen, Mike Edwards,Angie, Ian, Rick and others and placing a face with the voice on the CK forum. It was also great to hear the racers and other organizers stepping up to express their concerns and desires,in a face to face, open public forum. Many racers have expressed their feelings of just being peons in the process….folks you are the reason for the existance of the CSC, the tracks, kart shopsand racing programs. YOUR voice does count and it can be heard loud and clear one way or the other. As one of the CSC track owners suggested perhaps it is time that a Colorado Kart Racers organization is formed to express the organized desires and the direction that the racers would like to see Colorado karting proceed.
As I expressd at the meeting, CRE Motorsports is a PROPONENT of Colorado kart racing and not the evil stepchild opponent that more than a few have painted. I’ve extended an olive branch in an effort to find ways to TRULY unify the sport in Colorado and bring all of the tracks and racers together. My intention for attending the meeting was not to plead for CRE acceptance in to the CSC……but to call for unity, co-operation and uniformity. Hopefully this meeting was the first step in that direction.

ParticipantCurt & Blink,
I’m not trying to be difficult but I must respectfully disagree with your assertions and apparently there are others that see that the intent and purpose of the summit meeting that I proposed, has been hijacked. No were in my post “NO WINNERS” of August 31st and subsequent posts did I request a CSC business meeting to address the overall issues of kart tracks, the CSC. the Greeley Grand Prix, kart shops or representatives for the kart racer. I have in fact alluded to the concerns of of many kart racers regarding the fragmentation and confusion that the industry has created in the state. I appreciate the success of the CSC but once again it is only one factor in Colorado karting and is not the center of the universe or of much concern to those not involved in the CSC. The fact is that you had a very poor return on the CSC survey from the CSC participants ..,…..so how and why should those that are not involved in the CSC complete a survey that has NOTHING to do with their interests? It is widely known and understood that the CSC generally conducts it’s business behind closed doors, so why should this call for a summit be any different?
Curt……..I don’t understand your comment, “That you tried to get me involved…with no succees” ? I am the one that called for a general meeting of all involved in Colorado karting to discuss ways that we could eliminate fragmentation and confusion in an effort to bring unity to all of the tracks and those involved in Colorado karting and to help grow the sport. The CSC survey had nothing to do with any of theses issues.
Once again I appreciate your efforts to establish a meeting even if it’s intent has been diverted. The gathering will at least help to open up a dialoge to find solutions to the fragmentation and confusion that is hindering the operation and growth of our sport. There is absolutely NO WAY that the concerns will be dealt with in a single four hour session but perhaps this will lead to future co-operation amongest ALL parties involved.
I’ve spoken in past posts about the silent majority in Colorado karting. I implore you to now stand up and be counted for the good and growth of our sport. I hope to see you tomorrow morning.
