Sorry Mike… it does look pretty bad when a Kid Kart went faster than most of us! I would blame it on the kart! Your kids have nice race karts that their tuner dad has spent countless hours getting dialed. And you got thrown in rental. Those big ol’ rental karts are fun, but they sure take awhile to get going again after they have come to a sudden stop! Rematch next year – we may end up with more entries than any other class! it was just too fun. I notice you mentioned Rich, but I think Curt is the one we had better watch – he found a short cut on that track – determined to catch you!

    Only kidding, here they are…..

    http://www.thecoloradokarter.com/results/gpresults.htm

We did not get times for the Kid Kart main because the Shifters tore up the scoring wire! The kids were saved for last as the feature event, and results were hand scored! so I gave you thier qualifying times.

It was a great day! The spectators were fascinated by the whole thing, and the line for rentals after the event was incredible. You could here the “big boys” going by, even while out on the track driving.

Thank you to all who took the time, and made the effort, to come down and put on a show!

The turnout was light, as expected, due to the scheduling of the event. But those that could come out seemed to really have a good time! Those of you who missed it, missed seeing me drive a kart and lose the Tuner Challenge bad! But it was sure a blast!

So you want to know who showed up? And who won what?

Too bad – I’m not tellin’

Before we dump the Novice Shifter and Junior 2 classes, (because those are the lightly attended classes we are talking about) we need to consider where a kid is supposed to go when he leaves Junior 1. Right now those are two of the three choices. The other is to stick out Junior 1 until 11 going on 12 and jump to 80 Junior Shifter. There is a big Junior 1 field this year, maybe we should have a poll as to where everyone plans on going next year.

As for the Comer 80 deal, even making a Junior 1 2 cycle and a Junior 1 4cycle division would add another small class. Run them together, yes, but many would argue (like Mr. Moore has already said) they would run both.

More fuel on the fire….. In the 2005 -06 book there is also mention of an addition of a SKUSA Cadet TAG class, for the ages 7-11… isn’t this what folks were talking about here just weeks ago?

Rich, I can only assume you are speaking of us, since Cole is the young driver in the Novice field. I don’t want to get overly defensive – because safety is paramount to me, as well. The age for the Novice Shifter is 9 – 13, but as has been said, exceptions are made, on an individual basis. We did not just throw Cole in there without clearing it first.

I haven’t heard any complaints about Cole’s driving- on the contrary, we are continually told by many that he is a very consistent driver and doing a good job – if he wasn’t then we wouldn’t be doing it. We really wanted to help keep the Novice class alive, it has been struggling for awhile, and we did not want it to disappear, and we knew that he would be driving against the same kids that he raced with in Junior 1. It wasn’t a snap decision, our family spent countless hours in the off season at the track. Literally every weekend that there wasn’t snow on the track, we were there. Cole really enjoyed shifting, and so we considered letting him race it. We made sure he was within a reasonable time for the class, and warned him it would take extra effort on his part to be ready.

There are drivers in many classes – at least three others that I can think of off hand, that are younger than the rules show. I think any training or licensing program is a good idea, as long as it is organized and implemented decently. A program that wasn’t would do more damage than good! It is not the age of the driver, but his/her skills as a driver and their ability to react to situations on the track. Cole proved to us that he could be consistent, smooth, and safe on the track.

I would ask right here and now that anyone that feels Cole is dangerous to himself and/or others on the track, please let me know now.

As for the rules, tech, race procedures, etc. I am all for it. Anyone who has been on the forum since the beginning must know my thoughts on this. It is good to see the ideas and concerns flowing. I don’t think anyone – racer, track owner, parent, or sponsor – takes the issue of safety lightly. This time around we just need to make sure that changes are implemented and followed through.

If you are going to Steamboat and want to stay at the West Condominiums, you should probably think about making your reservations. They are filling up fast. The prices are very reasonable, especially if you have a large family or group staying together.

The West Condos are excited about being a part of this event again this year. Not only are they offering the racers a great discount, they are also putting sponsorship money into the event.

The West Condos can be reached at 800-521-4013, and they do have a website… http://www.westcondos.com
see more info at The West Condos info and rates

To quote Bruce Boman from another thread (Rotax ratio)

You can get both VP’s MS93 fuel and RS7 oil at:

    Big T High Performance
    2577 E 79th Ave Unit B
    Denver CO

    (720) 872-2414

Good people, nice little performance shop, they sell by the gallon or drum. They also have all the other VP fuels too in case you need MS98, VP110, C12.

When we were doing the Animal thing, we used Hawkins Motorsports, Thomas Hawkins, Port Jervis NY. 845-856-8281

I don’t even recall how Ken first contacted Tom, but he gave us a ton of information before we ever decided to use his services! We must have called him 10 times with questions before we ever got one of his motors.
Really nice guy, and at that time at least, he had a 1 year warranty on his work – we thought that was unusual.

He has a website, but looks like it is being updated, so is “under construction” http://www.webuildspeed.com

    Good Luck

Preregistration is not required, just show up to have fun. I think the gates are open at 7am and 1st practice will be at 8am.

Letting us know here or by email if you plan on attending is great though – so we have an idea of how many are going to be there, and in which classes.

If you want to get a feel for the track, go down and run one of the rentals! There is a coupon for $5 off in The Colorado Karter newsletter, so it would be $20 for 10 laps. I hear that some racers have already been down there checking it out!

I think the fastest lap time is around a 31.4 (in the rentals)

I would like to thank Patrick Doran (TaG Senior #63) for being so quick to offer his EMT expertise on Sunday. Both times that the red flag was waved, he was there instantly, asking if he could help. There were EMTs up at the drag strip, as there always are, and they did arrive fairly quick – but it was nice to see someone step up without hesitation to offer assistance.

    Thank You Patrick!

For now you can just mark the number of spots needed on your entry (the fewer the better) Byron is going to be doing a more complete layout of the track and pits after he returns from out of state, and at that time, I hope that we can get a pit diagram ahead of time, so that we can put people in their exact spots on a first come, first served basis. I will keep you posted here. If there is someone specific that you want to pit near, maybe make a note on your entry. We will do what we can to accomodate everyone.

The TecPro barriers are officially going to be there – the same ones that are over at the Mini Grand Prix right now. Bobby (from IMI) will be the flagman, and I will be doing the timing/scoring.
