Does SoCO stand for “Southern Colorado”? :idn:

Ohmigod, it sounds like Colorado is now going the route of Southern California (you know, SoCal, OC, etc.). Frightening–and I’m a Southern Californian by birth!

Or is short for Stars of Colorado?

Thanks for doing another service for the karting community, Doug! I plan to be there for the seminar, and the boys will probably join me for the tour.

    Doug,

There may be more than just one or two folks going to the Rotax GNs this year. Last year was a bit unusual, with only two of us going, I think partly because of the distance to South Bend and partly because of the MoJo rule. :bs: I believe there were at least 7 Coloradans at the GNs in Las Vegas the year before, and quite a few the year before that at Denton. As you pointed out in another post, having the GNs in our (extended) back yard–Miller Motorsports in Salt Lake City–may make it much more attractive this year, as will the local option to use YHCs. :sun:

For Rotaxians interested in the Max Challenge, there are two conflicts:

Western Regionals (LA) Aug 23-26 (would require a very quick turnaround from IMI race)

Grand Nationals (Salt Lake City): 9/29 – 10/1

Yes, I realize that it’s nearly impossible to find dates without conflicts, so I’m not complaining–just pointing out that it will be essentially impossible to compete for both the CSC TaG and RMC championships.

BTW, great idea to try to schedule Steamboat in the middle of the summer–it should be a nice change from the heat!

It might be useful to get more information about what’s being proposed. Is this a street course a la Rock Island? A parking lot course? Would they be willing to pony up for Pro-Tec barriers, or are we talking hay bales and cones? Do we have any idea what kind of surface the course would have (especially before making comparisons to Steamboat)?

I think it’s an intriguing idea, but the devil is always in the details–and I’m talking about more than marketing ideas.

I’ve gotta agree with Ellee about the porta potties. See, even guys can appreciate that!

But it sure would help to do some work on the PA system. Even in space 71–no where near as far away as a lot of the outlying spaces, we missed nearly all of Drew’s commentary. 😥 Fortunately, we didn’t miss any grid calls, but that’s mostly because we paid extra close attention and could see the starting grid from our pit. How about an FM system so we can all keep track of what’s going on?

“Finally”? I think this is really quick, Angie–you must be worn out from the weekend, so I think this is fantastic turnaround.

Absolutely! First class operation from being well organized up-front, to thorough and fair tech (at least as far as I saw), to being pretty much on time, to announcing, to a great Saturday night dinner. Thanks to Duff for the PA and FM system to help keep us on top of what was going on. Smooth (well, except for the track!) and fun weekend! :sun:

Just too bad about the scumbags with sticky fingers. 😡

    Dennis,

I have to agree with Bryan on this one. With a sealed motor, any “mistakes” should be the fault of the builder, not the driver. So as Doug points out, it’s possible that a builder might cut things a bit too close on squish–that should be the fault of the builder, and I’d hope the hounds of hell were released on him. But a permanent disqualification of the driver seems over the top. [/u]

I thought this was straightened out over a year ago when Doug Welch raised the issue. (http://www.thecoloradokarter.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=661&highlight=explaination). As was discussed then, and what people seem to have conveniently forgotten, is that it costs beaucoup bucks to have a motor resealed after it’s been opened by someone other than a certified Rotax dealer.

Todd, some of us race in the RMC as well as CSC, so it’s not an option to just reseal it ourselves.

I thought we’d reached an agreement that if someone wanted to protest a sealed motor (and my guess is that this would apply to EasyKarts as well), the protest fee would have to include the cost of dealing with resealing. Otherwise we could have a problem, because most of us Rotaxians aren’t going to be willing to shell out $250 – 400 for a plastic trophy. That makes it awfully tempting for BS protests.

As Doug and others said last summer, there are options. There’s clearly no problem with teching as long as it doesn’t disturb the seal. Or if there’s really a good reason to open it up, there could be a provision for a certified Rotax service center to either do the tech, or to be there to witness the seal breakage and then re-seal it. Last year Brad said he was going to get certified and could do that. My understanding is that never happened. But Critical Zone is a certified service center if the Cooks would be willing to reseal. From Tim’s post, apparently the same is true for Mile High Karting?

Sounds like fun, Doug, if we can find a time that works. It would be nice to find out just what’s going on with the PPIR event; the web site doesn’t seem to have been updated in ages and Phil didn’t reply to a question I sent him. I’m fine with used tires, and like the idea of being able to use multiple sets to get through the day. CRE makes a lot of sense for all the reasons that have been mentioned.
