ParticipantJustin,
Presuming that you’re running a Senior and using a K98 needle, a very general guide is that you’ll be in the 152-162 range; probably a 152 or 155 most summer days. But that won’t be precise enough to give you maximum performance, and you also risk going too lean and sticking the motor. If you’re interested in software, there are two primary solutions:
MaxJet: http://www.g-rpm.com/ (Canadian, but sold and serviced locally by Dave Galegor)
Jet-Tech: http://www.rotaxjetting.com/(UK-based, but you can purchase and download).
I’ve used both, the MaxJet for our Rotaxes and recently got Jet-Tech for our stock moto. For the novice, who basically wants to know what jet will get him close, MaxJet is the way to go. (IMHO, of course.) That said, Jet-Tech seems to be increasingly the more popular option, and allegedly has more advanced tuning capacities. If I could figure out how to get mine to work, I could tell you more. (Seriously, the Jet-Tech requires that you calibrate the device with lots of testing to create a baseline. Not so easy for someone who’s just trying to learn the package and isn’t quite sure how to know if the jetting is correct.)
In either case, you’ll also need a weather station for temperature, humidity and barometric readings (unless you have a smartphone and want to get the data from a local airport, which is particularly easy at The Track or GJMS, but not so easy for IMI, Bandi, or PPIR). Both companies sell weather stations, the one that comes with the MaxJet integrates directly with the software, which is nice, but it’s not self-standing.

ParticipantAngie,
I’ve been having exactly the same problem on 2 of my 3 computers using Internet Explorer 8, though Google Chrome works fine. So how do we clear our browser caches?
Of course, Pat would agree with Rodney that he too needs a new tuner. Much more than does Sabre.

ParticipantThanks for the quick answer, Curt.

Our race at IMI will be held in the same manner that Round #1 was conducted at PPIR. All schedules will hold as far as classes, qualifying, heats and mains are concerned. We will have our pre-registration forms on line next week at http://www.skusamr.com . There will be announcements made starting next week with all of the details pertaining to Round #2.
Thank You,
The SKUSAMR TeamI just want to make sure I understand what this means. Practice all day Friday, and then qualifying, 2 heats, and a main on Saturday?

ParticipantPat will be in the midst of final exams, so we’re going to have to pass. :puke

ParticipantLes, I think you forgot to put in the link.

ParticipantI was thinking of tires, Jim. We didn’t run MoJos last year, but as I recall the D2s–good as they’ve become–are a bit slower than MG Yellows.
Joe Rosse
ParticipantThanks, Jim–I was looking at the 2010 racing schedule on your page and didn’t see it. So if it’s run as part of the Mile High Challenge, Rotaxians will have to choose between running in Rotax setup or TaG setup, right? We’d like to run against other Rotaxes, but I’m afraid that will turn into the low turnouts of last year.
So, Rotaxians, who’s planning to run the Rotax of the Rockies series?? (I’m curious about both Rotax Jr and Sr.)
Joe Rosse
ParticipantJim,
I’m sure you posted this before, but I can’t find the Rotax of the Rockies schedule either here or on your website. Could you repost the info, or the link to it?

ParticipantI’m pretty much always 50% right.

ParticipantDirection? (I’m betting clockwise)

ParticipantNo matter how many spares you carry with you, it’ll be the one thing you didn’t pack that will break. Get to know others and don’t hesitate to ask for help or parts–and of course do the same for others. We once won a state championship race with a motor borrowed from a competitor. That’s what makes the karting community so great, and this sport so rewarding.
Meanwhile, what I’d add to Kirk’s list:
– spark plugs (if it won’t start, one of the first things to swap)
– brake pads
– a box of miscellaneous nuts and bolts (metric of course)
– extra lead (if you need it). Scales are not consistent across tracks (or days), so you may need to add some at the last moment
– not really a “spare” part, but a range of jets (150 – 162 should suffice)
– duct tape!!Joe Rosse
ParticipantDoug,
You’re not alone in getting the runaround from him. Like you, I’d heard good things about what a great guy he is. And he may be if you’re working with him personally, but he doesn’t seem at all reliable about selling stuff. I first discovered this when I was trying to buy a kart stand from him a couple years ago. He promised he’d have one of his guys bring it over to Denver for me, but it never panned out. I hadn’t paid him, so all I was out was a good deal on a stand. Then I got a MyChron from him; as I recall, it took a couple reminders but eventually it arrived. Only problem was that it lacked the thermocouple that it was supposed to include. I reminded him 3 or 4 times–it was always “it’s buried somewhere” or “someone else was supposed to ship it.” I finally gave up and bought one on eBay. Not a huge deal, but like you, I think others should know that nice guy or not, you can’t rely on him. (Since then I’ve heard of another person with a similar story, but he shall remain nameless unless he wants to chime in.)

ParticipantGreg,
Jim’s doing a RMC series, right–so that should be 360 unless they surprise us by changing weights? Or did you mean for TaG in the RTR series?
