It’s time we formally introduce the SKUSA Mountain Region team and do a little bench racing. Skylark Lounge anyone?
Why not meet up at the facility that generous Colorado Karters celebrated Bob Reeds recovery efforts, and the site of Rich Vito’s fund raiser? The Skylark ownership will welcome us next Saturday, 2-13-10 from 2:00-4:00, upstairs. Angie will be attending the NorCal SKUSA race unfortunately, but the rest of the SKUSAMR team will be on hand to lay out our 2010 plans, schedule, locations, race day agenda, and answer any questions you may have.
The bar will be stocked and staffed, but you will need to purchase your own beverages. Please feel free to bring any munchies you may have the urge to eat as well. This is not a party, yet, but a good way for our organization to answer your questions, and address any of your concerns.
Everyone, and we mean everyone, is invited to come and have a good time. If there is anything specific we can come prepared for, please let us know. Until then, we look forward to seeing as many karters as possible at this great venue.
To all of our friends on the West Slope. We will plan a road trip to Grand Junction in a few weeks to offer the same excuse to get together and share a few pop’s and spend some time in your community as well. We may even let Cunningham buy us a beer or two.
Thank You,

Now Joe, you know we can’t tell you everything. What are the odds you are 50% right?
February 11, 2010 at 4:25 am #63573Joe RosseParticipantI’m pretty much always 50% right.
February 11, 2010 at 3:37 pm #63574Chris WogrinParticipantUnfortunately once again I’m going to be out of town! Oh well, no work no play, Looking forward to the season and just hoping someone can post some of the items that are covered.
We,re planning on running SKUSA series and maybe St Louis and the super nats, so if anyone is doing a kart count I’ll have at least 2 karts entered at all the Mtn races with a possiblility of 3 and maybe 4. For sure We’ll have 1 S3/S2 for Connor and an S5 for Cameron, depending on other commitments Colin will race a S5 for the Mtn races.
I would like to thank all of you who have put the effort into this series, you will have our support and best wishes to all for a safe and fun season.
Regards The Wogrin’s

RickWe missed you Booby, and I hope you are starting to feel better again. You must be getting sick and tired of being sick and tired.
Get well soon buddy!Saturday Update:
Once again the Skylark Lounge hosted a group of Colorado Karters and the facility was top notch. It was great seeing Bob Reed healthy and back to his old self laughing it up and bench racing with his old buds. We all need to keep Rich in our thoughts and prayers as he is not in the best of shape. He has been having some rough times lately and we hope he can get back to where he was just a few short weeks ago. Gayle is standing by his side and Rich has many friends and loved ones continueing to pray for his recovery.
We introduced the SKUSAMR team with the exception of Sam who is out of the country, and Angie who was performing her scoring & timing magic at a SKUSA NorCal event in Sonoma CA. We had a good turnout and a good mix of current & future SKUSAMR members, along with the curious who have not decided on just what they are doing this year.
We discussed our schedule and displayed large drawings of the PPIR track layout. We have been answering many questions about the PPIR track, facility, garages, power hook-ups and other amentities the facility will offer on our (2) scheduled events there. As far as the schedule goes, we continue to field questions about “why Mothers & Fathers day”? It’s very simple and has everything to do with local and national schedules, coupled with availability at the facilities we are racing. We have mothers too and we wish we could have changed things up, but we simply had very few options. I will say this, we have registration data dating back to 2002, and this will not be the first time Colorado has raced on Mothers Day. However, it will be the first Mothers Day race with the pampering we are going to provide to you mothers. More to follow and be announced very soon.
We also discussed how race day will look concerning the schedule of events, safety, tech, track workers, running on the clock system, flagging, scales, our announcer and everything else you can expect from a Regional event.
We answered questions about points acquired in the Region, and points acquired from the National events. How these points will count towords Vegas vs Regional Championships.
We also handed out lot’s of free SKUSA swag and everyone walked out of there with shirts, hats, hoodies, posters and magazines. Thanks to Tom and AJ for filling the goodie box, and thanks the Cris for providing what Tony said was the best pizza he ever ate.I can go on forever, but that is the readers digest version of how we spent our two hours. If there are specific questions, or you need additional information pertaining to our region, please do not hesitate to contact any of us. Or simply shoot me a PM. We look forward to seeing everyone in May at PPIR. I personally promise you a great run event with by far the fastest racing ever wittnessed in CO.
PPIR will be having a karting open house on March 6th if anyone is interested in standing on the infield and taking in the sights. More information real soon.
Thank You,
Curt KistlerFebruary 17, 2010 at 6:23 am #63577Jon RomeneskoParticipantThis thread’s been kind of quiet. Nobody wants to chime in about SKUSA? Ok…I’ll take a swing.
I think the series has big promise. Their intention that I got out of the meeting was this; true regional competition. Regional competition that’s over and above what we’ve come to expect in the past. If you want to take your program to the next level, or even nationally, SKUSA wants to give you a place to do it. Some random thoughts:
–Each race will have the same officials, tech people, scale people, corner workers, etc. And these are people that know karting, they know the rules, they know the flags. I really don’t think I’ve seen a traveling crew like that ever in my 5 years in karting.
–The PPIR track looks FUN and FAST. Some good technical sections too. The draft will play a big part of things, it’s going to be awesome on a shifter. I’ve never been on the high banks or in a draft before so I can’t wait. It you like speed you will love this event. Plus we’ll be able to use te same facilities that the NASCAR boys used. This means showers and electricity. How cool is that?
–Racing for real trophies, not little plastic ones. (that actually got applause 😆 )
–The Voice of SKUSA MR will be Tony LaPorta, aka the best damn announcer this side of Rob ‘book it!’ Howden
–No bull officiating. Flaggers not afraid to use the black flag. No gimmies in tech (for anyone). Rule and regs continuity from here to Vegas.
–More track time. 3 (?) heats and a main not only mean more track time, but we’ll have to do it on one set of tires. This means you’ll have to manage your tires so you’ll be fast on lap 25 of the main. Speaking of lap 25, the races will be scored by distance, not laps. So a race at one track might be longer than a race at another. 20 lap mains are fine at club races, but if you want to race nationally you’re gonna have to race longer races. So get to the gym!
— No affiliation with any one track. We’re there to race. No conflict of interest there.
If you want to race with some real pros, seems the SKUSA MR is it. They might have a lot to live up to, but i think the right guys and girls are behind this.
Thanks to the SKUSA Crew for taking their Saturday to show and tell, and staff at the Skylark for opening early and having some good brews on tap. Also, that pizza was really good… 8)
