ParticipantRich,
More Northerners on the way–Pat will be part of the Rotax Jr. contingent, and Pete will be doing his thing with the Jr Sportsmen.
Any truth to the rumor that George will be having an Easter Egg Hunt? Or is that part of Brad’s plan? 😆

ParticipantJust noticed that you never got an answer, Rich. To the best of my knowledge:
1) Yes, distilled water only. Personally, given the small Rotax radiators and warm July/August temps, I wish we could use Water Wetter or equivalent, but RMC rules say distilled water only.
2) The white-painted weights are by WKA rules. The idea is that they show up better on a black track if they fall off. We’ve never actually seen that be a problem, but it seems like a reasonable precaution.
3) Won’t affect you, but any Juniors reading this should know that wide rear bumpers are required for all Junior classes. In accordance with WKA (and RMC) rules, all Juniors are also required to have an SFI-certified chest protector (we use the Armadillo).
4) Juniors in the K80 class must have a box-stock motor with no mods (that also means the choke plate cannot be removed), that must be sealed by CRE. Exhaust must be the Veyvey pipe, and a K&N style air filter rather than an airbox (must not be a filter that allows “ram air flow.”)
5) Again, you know this, but any first-timers should realize that CRE routinely checks fuel, so make sure to drain any pump gas and use the specified fuels.
I’m probably forgetting something, but those are some of the differences between CSC and CRE tech rules.

ParticipantInteresting info, Brad. So any idea if that affects any karting motors? I’d think it would cut it pretty close for Rotax, Leopards, ???

ParticipantPat thought it was an awesome track, too. Not necessarily the most Rotax-friendly–with all the turns–but very technical and smoooooth. He loved the downhill sweeper coming into the front straight (he says–don’t get off the gas!). Currently, it’s his second-favorite track after South Bend (which has more straights).
I agree with the concerns about runoff areas. At the moment, the soil is so soft that you’re not going to go very far (young Peter can attest to that after having one of his tie rods vibrate completely off–I really need to cut back on the 1 a.m. wrenching!). But once it hardens up, there are some fairly nasty spots to end up in. (C’mon, Jim, from SCCA to F1, there are certainly cases of off-track excursions that don’t necessarily end your day! 😉 )
Things to look forward to:
– installing Alfano timing strips for those of us who don’t have MyChron data acquisition
– more trash cans
– PA or radio system to reach to the end of the paddock
– full-service restaurant with bar :cheers:All in all, a GREAT track! Thanks, Jim!!

I like the simplicity of your solution!

ParticipantOr if you want to save some $$$, you can make your own bleeder with some PVC pipe and brass fittings. At least on the Birels we’ve owned, there is a 1/8″ pipe thread fitting on top of the master cylinder, so standard 1/8″ brass pipe works well. Figure a 6-10″ piece, then a brass valve, then another 4-6″ of brass pipe. That attaches to a 8-10″ piece of 1″ or so PVC pipe. Screw the whole thing into the fitting on the master cylinder, fill the PVC with brake fluid, and open the valve. Then open the bleeder screws on the caliper (typically one on each side) and let gravity do the work (that’s why you want the bleeder unit to be fairly tall). Or you can press the brake pedal, open the bleeder, flush, and then close the bleeder without releasing the brake pedal. Faster, but slightly trickier.
Our birels had a simple Allen screw for the bleeders, whereas our Arrow has automotive style bleeders. (Actually the bleeder isn’t needed with the Arrow, since it has a reasonably large–by kart standards–fluid reservoir). I’d guess $10-15 at Home Depot

ParticipantI’d like to think you’re joking, Brian…. :loony:

ParticipantI understand the interest in keeping dates stable, but with the addition of the Greeley Grand Prix, some of us have a race EVERY weekend in May. That’s a pretty busy schedule in any case, but especially when kids are still in school. (Not to mention working out new chassis, setup, etc. at the beginning of a season.) Getting a head start in April would be fun, and take some of the pressure off in May.
Joe Rosse
ParticipantWAHOO!!!!!
Thanks for the GREAT news, Angie!!! :sun:

ParticipantWe’re with Jerry–either weekend is OK, and better than May.
Joe Rosse
ParticipantWorks for us–May is pretty jam-packed.

ParticipantI’ve got a vintage Volvo (P1800) without a cat converter, so anyone is welcome to donate their old gas to me!! 😆

ParticipantDoug,
As I recall, Greg is very fond of trail braking, no? Yet what I’ve heard from those who tried FWB (out at Willow Springs), is that they’re much better for threshold braking than trail braking. Did Greg have a hard time adjusting?

ParticipantRich,
I understand your general point–it gets frustrating when schedules constantly change. But I disagree a bit about the vote happening at the meeting. It was not clear that there was going to be a vote at that meeting, and I, and I’ll bet others, decided to pass this time around. To quote you:
Don,
You beat me to it.
I want to see a MEATY AGENDA, not just one liners.
ALSO WHAT IS BEING PROPOSED BEFORE THE MEETING, so us kart racers can discuss it amoung our selves BEFOREHAND
And to quote Angie:
As for the meeting…. It is somewhat of a tradition – we didn’t always have the internet to make announcements. Brad has had an annual meeting for IMI, before the CSC was around. The track owners agreed in the very beginning to use the meeting to announce the whole CSC idea to the karters. If you have a concern about something in particular, it helps to bring it up at the meeting. The rules will be discussed, the classes will be discussed, the schedules will be discussed, questions will be answered – but whether any monumental decisions will be made at the meeting is really unknown. If we truly want an accurate membership vote on anything, it would need to be done by mail, or at the races.
There can be a debate whether there SHOULD be a vote, but I don’t think it’s right to suggest that whatever happened at The Meeting truly represents the voice of all CSC members.
