ParticipantI believe I know the reason you haven’t gotten any response to this. First if you want sponsorship you need to be able to sell yourself, and be able to provide that sponsor with a benefit. It is going to be hard to do in any sport especially in this economy. If you are really serious about doing it plan on putting together a portfolio. That portfolio should include prior accomplishments, and depending on your age should include school grades, other activities outside of racing that you participate in etc.. My son was able to get some help from our local motorcycle shop in the form of percentage off of product. I do not want to discourage you, but I think we spent more time, money, and effort looking for sponsorship then the benefit we received out of it. Good luck though if you follow through.

ParticipantAngie,
Great video . I guess two of the legends cars didn’t make it out in the final race so Brandon still finished last 16th out of the 16 in the field. I had to count the cars after I heard the announcer in your video. I know there were 18 registered though.
Curt,
With any form of racing there are inherent risks involved. My son does have great safety gear. Simpson Helmet, HANS device, Butler built seat with halo, but the best safety device of all, he drives within his abilities. I was just happy that my son did not cause or get involved in any accidents on the track Saturday as it was his very first time in the car. I hope we can get to a track to just get some seat time before next season starts.
Just to clarify about the payouts. It was not just the legends cars that had payouts it was all the classes that ran. Modifieds, trucks, hornets, and legends. So while still trying to figure out how that was possible? In karting I figure it’s just like all the contractors I have worked for in the past. Not one of them makes any money off the jobs they bid (at least that’s what I hear after each job). I realize they may have not made as much money as they originally planned 15% profit instead of the 20%, but the fact of the matter is they still made money. The economy is the best reason I could give for trying to give back a little to the racers. If the tracks and or promoters are not making money then what is the reason they do it? I don’t believe it is as simple as we love racing and I enjoy it so much that I’m willing to take a loss financially to do it. There is tons of money spent on karting every year ( I know how much I spent a year on it). I absolutely wouldn’t expect a $250 payout for first at a local race, but there can’t be any reason other than the tracks and or promoter are putting on the races for a loss.

ParticipantI was waiting for the landing or crash as might be the case. Why didn’t they show that? It looks like fun though.

ParticipantMike,
If you race spec shifter that adds one to their ranks and minus one for tag. LOL

ParticipantWhats wrong with the Italkart? If it were me I would save my money unless of course the chassis is worn out. I have never owned an Italkart however those chassis are very good and ran well in all the classes that raced at Stars.

ParticipantThe hans will not work since it requires the use of a seatbelt to hold it down against the body. I too would be curious to know if any of the karting braces truely work?

ParticipantJust so everyone knows my comment above was a joke. I am well aware that the Welch’s are a great family. Don’t take life to seriously people its way to short as it is.

ParticipantWell I for one feel sorry for you Greg. I would hate to work for free. Maybe your dad can teach me that. If I could only get my son to work for free.
Sounds like a good deal though “the instruction not the free”,

ParticipantLooks like a good opportunity for a chassis to be made here in the good ol USA. I wish we could quit sending are hard earned money overseas. Wishful thinking I know with this global economy.

ParticipantIf you are moving around at all in the seat the seat is too big. Should be snug almost uncomfortable tight at a standstill. Hope this helps.

ParticipantSorry to hear you got laid off. Im so used to it now that it seems like the norm. I have already collected nine different employers this year “fun at tax time”. Being laid off is actually a good thing if there are prospects for the future. You can practice on weekdays instead of weekend. A whole lot less karters. I got laid off yesterday as well. Son can now practice more for the grands.

ParticipantHow can you have a world championship for less than $800 in entry fees? Does it come with recognition with those low entry fees? Are you charging $600 for pit fees to make up for the losses? Now on a serious note congrats.
