As a newbie to TaG Masters and only about 100 test laps under my belt, I am frequently suffering from sore ribs. Even tho I wear a GoKarting rib vest and have a RibTect seat which seems to be about the correct size
based on RibTect’s sizing chart. Any suggestions on additional padding or driving technique to prevent sore ribs?

If you are moving around at all in the seat the seat is too big. Should be snug almost uncomfortable tight at a standstill. Hope this helps.

My son has had very good luck with the gpads (http://www.gpads.com/) inside the seat. I believe both Brad @ IMI and JB @ Bandi sell them.

Body armor is a life saver for sore ribs, we have them in stock at GJMS 970.256.0107

I am a newb as well, but I picked up a sparco ribvest based on advice from a member here and when I get in my seat it is tight enough that I can not move at all. It is snug enough that I think maybe it is too snug. But when I am driving all I can think about is how any bigger and I would get tossed all over the place.

So from my limited experience, dont skimp on the ribvest and get a nice tight fit on the seat.

Hi this is Sergio Quintanilla Tag Master # 5 … the past and present season , had many problems with my ribs , one broken and other almost on left and right side, i tried with diferent seats, ribs protectors and extra padding over the seat but and the final after two bad accidents, found the problem most the time is how I’m using my seat , from simple and cheap seat to last one is a ribtech, if you turn is 2 to 3 g’s and you push over your rib’s with the same or more energy or force, you can add 1 more G (gravity … 1 g is your weight 3 g’s are 3 times your weight , don’t think you put your full weight , is just the part is over your waist maybe 50% to 60 % of your real weight), also always I tried to put my body in the midle of the seat to keep the vibration of the kart/engine out of my sides, after almost 2 1/2 seasons found how I can control my own weight in each corner, in the way how can I help to get more grip to my rear axle without get problems with my ribs, more or less I found some type of balance and works ,,, any way my opinion is only mine, and using a rib protector always is a good idea
i hope this information can help you……

I have bruised and broken ribs just in practice sessions.

#1. try to get your kart from hopping. Odds are you are hopping or skipping around some turns and that is what causes the bumps to the ribs that are bad. I can’t offer solid advice on tuning your kart to prevent that as there are lots of variables to work with.

#2. While it is expensive, consider a Ribtec 2 rib protector. They are about $200, but this has made a Huge difference for me compared to my old rib vest. Worth every penny.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I’ll try a set of GPAD’s to tighten up my seat and for additional padding. If that does not work I may have to change to next size smaller seat. Current seat is snug but I would not call it tight. JB at Action sized it for me when I purchased the kart.

Are certain tracks harder on the ribs than others? For example Bandimere vs. the Track. Most of my seat time has been at Bandi.
No ribs issues at the Track so far.

Yeah, Bandi is a little bumpier, especially if you’re hitting some of the curbs, so it definitely beats on you. The Track is smoother and less brutal, as is IMI.

Body armour is the way to go. You can race with broken ribs and not feel them with these. Worth every penny. Call Stacey and get it before you begin to hate karting.

The ribtec 2 makes a big difference and I am not one who typically endorsing things. It allowed me to drive with what I’m sure was a cracked rib (I’ve had em before).

while some tracks jossle you around that will just create relative soreness. If something hurts bad it is likely that your kart took a big hop while pulling some serious side loads. The Track is nice but if your kart hops on the downhill turn going into the main straight (CW direction) it is going to hurt.
