1. As safe as it can be.

3. And something to make our children more competitive in a fair manner.John,
Karting really is all those things. I have two sons that have gown up on the race tracks here in Colorado. We have raced at every one and have won races and championships at every one. There is no inner circle, but there are some who know more than others but most of us are more than willing to give you every bit of information we have. All you have to do is ask. I know that I have no secrets. I will tell you or any one else every thing we are doing and have done.
Many, many racers shared their information with me as we were learning and we are very eager to pass on what we know so that folks like yourself can enjoy this sport like we have. Karting has been very good to us and we feel very strongly about giving back to the sport.
This sport if filled with many, many great people. It is one of the things we have most enjoyed about karting, the people we have been fortunate enough to meet. It is my hope that in the coming year, we will be able to take what we started last year with the CSC and make it bigger and better. While I had hoped that we could get all 4 of the track owners involved, we can not. But we do have 3 of the 4 and we have a promoter in Steamboat Springs that are very eager to take karting in this state to a higher level. A series that encompasses just about every type of kart, goes to 4 different venues, yet involves minimal overnight travel, is unprecidented in karting. We are very fortunate to have such racers and promoters in our state.
I for one am very proud to say, I’m from Colorado, home of some of the best karters in the country.

Talked with SKUSA today. They are sticking to their story that the schedule will be released before the new year. Maybe we should meet sometime during the first two weeks of Jan?

ParticipantI have new karts coming for both Jeff and Greg. They will be running KGB with CRS power in the Pro 125 class. If we do a PMT, Jeff will do SP and Greg S1. Should be a fun year.

So brad, YGK’s are okay right! for TAG/CSC/Club/Max Challenge????
YGK as I understand it is the same tire as the YGC. The YGK was legal last year, so it should be again this year.

As of the first of the year, SSC is changing the distribution system for Rotax. No longer is an area restricted to a single RD, any dealer can do it. Grand Junction is now a Rotax service center and dealer and they are being encouraged to have their own series. Makes a lot of sense as they are geographicaly fairly removed from this side of the hill. At this time, his Rotax series will run seperately from the CSC. I have no idea if KSD will have a series, but we know that CRE will try to have one.

In order to add a class, we need to eliminate a class. Right now, we have two adult 4 cycle classes in the CSC. Are you suggesting that we replace both with this one?

Last year there were several girls that ran in the 50 comer class who were too old because of the very reasons you brought up, small and new at karting. I don’t think that kids should be pushed up in class just because they are at a particular age. Skill, size and motivations are much more important. Right now, the Comer 80 appears to be at a disadvantage in the CSC compared to the Briggs karts. I think we need to consider giving it a weight break.
If I had to go buy an engine for the Junior 1 class, I would look strongly at the Briggs Animal on gas. I ran the flat head on menthonal and while it is very fast, I was rebuilding engines every race weekend to keep them in top form. The valves just didn’t like bouncing off the head at 6,500 rpm 😀 If I had it to do all over, I would prefer the Comer 80 as 2 cycles are realtively cheap to run and they last forever. But running them heads up with the Briggs is tough.
Before you make a final decision, I would talk with the various track owners of the CSC. We allowed it last year in the Comer 50 class for a competitor to run who was “old” but it fit them perfectly.

ParticipantI understand where Don is coming from. The Honda is used extensively in Canada and it lasts forever! It has come up many times in US sanctioning bodies, most notable in IKF, but it gets shot down every time. George down at CRE has tried several times over the years to get a Honda class but IKF won’t hear of it. We could come up with rules for it but not in any of the US based sanctioning bodies.

ParticipantNot to pop your bubble Marc, but I think there is virtually no chance of a significant ICA class in Colorado within my lifetime. It is a very expensive class to run in its current form. More than a shifter if you can believe that. However, there is talk from over the pond about putting rev limiters on them as the 20 grand rpm is what kills them. But it could be a complete waste of money as CIK has dictated that by 2006, ICA will be 4 cycle. Indeed, that will be the start of a complete faze in of 4 cycle engines. You need to read the headline story on ekarting about it.

ParticipantI did screw up on the dates. It will be the weekend after Labor day, Sept 11 and 12. I recieved a calander from the Steamboat Chamber and they did move us up a week compared to this year because of the potential for bad weather. If we moved to the summer, the chamber won’t give us much money to do the race. Temp races are very expensive to put on and we need every dollar we can get.

ParticipantOne last kid, Jeff Welch had a podium on the PMT and earned a national number on a DFM.

ParticipantHere is the web site. They run IKF classes but for like 125 shifter, last year they just ran two classes, lite and heavy. TaG they run all together. The web addresss is http://www.pkra.org/

ParticipantDo they still play pro football in Denver? I thought they quit when John boy retired.

We have a great group of karters here in Colorado. The Shockwave karting Colorado Sprint Championship (CSC) averaged well over 100 racers in 12 classes last year and will be biger and better next year. They wer by far the biggest races of the season. Here we run the ICC and motos together, but I should warn you, if you want to run the 125 Pro class, you better bring your A game. 😆 We have some very fast kids in that class. 80 junior is another very fast group of racers. TaG senior will be our biggest class next year and I expect that at times we could see fields of 30 karts!
To give you an idea of how strong our karters can be, this year 4 drivers earned national numbers on the PMT. At any given race, you could have 2 or 3 past SuperNationals winners in attendance. This year at the SuperNats, Colorado karters podiumed in 3 classes with several others finishing in the top 10. A strong group indeed.
You also have your choice of 4 tracks in the state. IMI is just north of town and Action karting at Bandimere just on the western edge. Both are within 30 to 40 minute drive from just about anywhere in the metro area. A little farther away but a great track is CRE, just east of Colorado Springs, its about 1 -1/2 hour drive but well worth it. One of the best tracks in the entire country is found in Grand Junction. The other cool thing is that each track is very different from the other so you have ample opportunity to learn.
We can at times be a fiesty bunch at times but one thing is a fact, we love karting.

ParticipantTalked with still another guy today who should know and his rumors were quite different. The PMT will be SP (ICC only), S1 and G1 (moto and ICC combined), 80 junior and TaG senior and Masters. 6 classes total. So I suggest that you pick the rumor you like and stick with it. 8)
