Wow, I gonna try to pull some strings to see if I can get out there. Sounds like an excellent oppurtunity for a no0b such as myself.

    Hello fellow no0b.

I can’t help a whole lot but I jumped over from a pretty similar ship recently.

I too had a WRX that I used to AutoX regularly (maybe I know you?), I never got into RallyX because my wife wouldn’t let me hurt the pretty red paint. Anyways I decided to jump ship earlier this year and picked myself up a TaG kart. I convinced my brother-in-law that he needed a hobby too, and made him pick one up as well. We’ve been doing a lot of practicing and familiarizing ourselves with the karts this year so far and hope to be ready to run a couple/few club races late in the season.

Anyways, I’d definately say a TaG is the way to go. Even with somebody who is familiar with motorsports, learning to tune the kart and maintain momentum through the corners is a plus. With shifters you have the option to grab another gear, so learning to be smooth in a single speed TaG will do nothing but help when and if you decide to jump up to the shifters.

There a lot of options as far as chassis go. But its good to pick one up that has good local support. A good hint when looking at used chassis is to check the wear on the bottom at the waist of the kart. If too much (more than 1/2 inch or so?) is worn off there the kart might be shot. Also, as with everything in karting, I’ve come to understand that utilizing the local guys is a great way to support the community. Shockwave, Billet, IMI, and Rocky Mountain Kartworks are all local guys that have a wealth of knowledge and will go out of their way to help you out.

As far as TaG engine packages you have a variety of choices. I myself have a Rotax, my brother-in-law has a Leopard. These both seem to be pretty popular choices in the local community, although there are others. The Rotax has the advantage of having its own separate series, if the engine is sealed with a passport it is should be legal to run in the MileHigh Rotax Challenge races.

I picked up my kart at a great price, it was donated to a benifit for one of the long standing members of the community who had some health problems. I’ve been very happy with it so far and the outpouring of help for Bob that I witnessed said a lot to me about the way the community conducts themselves. My brother-in-law picked up his at great price as well. Like all motorsports you can spend a little, or a lot. Anything can be found from a 4 year old chassis with a powerplant needing rebuilt to a brand spanking new setup. You could probably spend from $2k to $10k on a kart depending on the depth of your pockets. Middle of the road, slighty used TaG package, harbour freight trailer, and frugal shopping for used gear, you could probabley get racing for an initial investment of around $5k.

Anyways, this forum and coloradokartracing is full of helpfull guys and gals with plenty of knowhow, and I’m sure some of them will chime in here. Good luck with your endeavors.

BTW, are you active on the Subie forums? What’s your WRX look like? Have I seen you at the SCCA or PPSCC AutoXs or did you strictly RallyX it?

Sounds like this scam has finally worked its way down to karts. People have been scamming this way on big cars for years now. Always cease conversation with any deal involving a kart or car that is supposedly overseas.

BTW, in the few months I’ve been around this is the first SCAM ALERT I’ve seen. Which is darn good compared to big car forums.

And yes anyone can paint helmets. And really no one is the BEST. I think what some of the racers lean towards is; supporting those who support your racing. Why not spend your money with someone who is putting back to you?

This was my only point. Didn’t mean to incite a riot. It just seems like common sense to support those that support

Or you could hit up Gunslinger. Considering they are a CSC sponsor that’d be the way I’d go.

No need for the 11 tooth driver in Colorado. We use a 12 at The Track and a 13 at IMI and GJ.

For rear sprockets, you will need the following
    76, 77, 80, 81

For a master weight kart, add a tooth or two to each size.

For grease, you can use any thing you want. I use a Motul product but white grease or any good wheel bearing grease will work.

For oil, I use a straight 30w motor oil. Non-detergent if you can find it.

For jets, you need most of the stuff in the 15X range.

    Excellent.

    Thanks Doug.

So 12 and 13 for the driver and Rears ranging from say 77-83 should be a good start then?

Anybody got any suggestions on good starting points for IMI and TTAC? Being in Brighton I haven’t gotten out to TTAC yet, but at IMI with my current setup my RPMs seem to drop a bit low.

I’m currently at ratio of 5, 62. I’ve heard that 6, 50 is a good place to start at IMI and 7, 64 for TTAC. Does this sound right?

    THANKS CHRSTIAN BIRD

    Hey Christian.

“SuperDave” started a thread over there about login/signup issues. I’m not sure if it’s publically accessible w/o logging in but here it is.

And if its not here’s the direct quote of his post.

Hey guys I am seeing some people having issues with logging in or signing up. If you have a problem with either the Forum or the Racer Info Login (Thats the new one I just added in to sign up for races.) Send me an email at [email protected] and I will try and resolve it as fast as i can. Also specify which one your having the problem with.

    Thanks

Shoot him an e-mail. It should be a simple fix.

Go with 57, you definatley dont wanna share a # with that little jeff Gordon.

Tony – Ya’ got a point there, although he hasn’t been so cocky lately what w/ his teamie Jimmy taking the last two championships and what not. Ideally I’d like to use young F1 hero Lewis Hamilton’s current number, which I think is 22, but this old go-slower wouldn’t want to insult him.

I of course am running THE ALMIGHTY NUMERO 20

Yeh, I know. Kind of wanted Smoke’s number for myself, actually.

BTW, I don’t recognize that helmet brand in your photo, is that a Bell? Don’t those horns create a lot of drag?

I think 57 it will be for now. Following in the footsteps of one of you local karting giants, I’ll be following the “number it for the age at which you started it” standard this year.

Freezeman – thanks for the additional perspectives, and for the welcome. And, that registration check is “in the mail”. It’s rubber, hope that’s ok…

    Sheldon

Ugghh. Lewis Hamilton? What a douchebag. I had a little respect for him untill the Bahrain Grand Prix when he flipped off one of the Force India drivers for simply fighting for position. That was complete BS.

Anyways I’m not registered as I’m kinda in the same boat as you you sheldon. But I would like to run 555 in TaG Masters club when I get started sometime this season. Just putting that out there.

Works fine for me using the “remember me” function.

Maybe try clearing your cookies and temporary internet files?

I’m not positive. The detailed plans for the track look to be pretty intense so I would hope that lighting would eventually be done.

Considering Angie’s desire to keep the karter going and the whole sponsor situation that Troy was talking about I doubt a redirect would fit the best interests of all parties.

I had good luck with a one-man kart stand when figuring this out. If you can find a good deal on one it isn’t much more than most of the other solutions proposed (well except maybe a skateboard) and a lot more elegant.

Doug, that helmet looks fast in your pic man!

    -Nick

Thanks, although after what I learned at Greg’s seminar that picture just makes me look slow. With the leaning in and whatnot. I’ve been having good luck with the Streeter I borrowed from Rick so far. Easy loading from the streeter to the truck and vice versa. The only thing I need help with now is up and down from the streeter but with recruiting my Brother-in-Law to karting I’ve ussually had help when I need it.

Uber got out of karting so I doubt he’d be interested.

However, I really like that thing. The only thing that I don’t dig about it is how you store it as with my small truck I have to keep the tailgate down during transport.

I might have to look into that though, thanks.
