ParticipantHello all-
Got the kart, now I’m settling into getting the right gear. What helmets are generally the most popular and comfortable for an adult, while being the most economical? Don’t get me wrong- I’m not a cheapskate, and put safety first (I do drive a Volvo 😉 ) but I’m also not going to plunk down $750 of my own money for a skid lid when something half the price would be sufficient.
On the subject, where should I go to purchase one? Are there reasonable dealers in Denver or should I go online? Thanks for any suggestions!

ParticipantIMO try on all of them and pick what fits you best.
Arai,Bell,Impact, Simpson would be my recommendations.
IMO the Bell GTX is a great value since it has a car rating.
I rock an Arai since I got a killer deal and it fit my face a lot better than the Bell.
I would personally consider getting one with the car rating….you might end up using it sometime.:)

ParticipantScomo:
I hear you loud and clear, budget! However, I will offer one thing: broken arm, cast, learn to brush teeth w/ off-hand, relatively easy…Broken Head…not so much. Wear $30 gloves and less expensive shoes and suit for now…spend your hard earned cash protecting the thing that is the most difficult to fix!
Personally, I wear the Bell GTX and am very happy with it. Arai…awesome as well. There are lots of good brands out there…go w/ fit and don’t buy entry level.
Best,
Troy

ParticipantOops…where to get one.
The local shops will carry or can get them for you.
Doug at Shockwave.
Barry at Billet Performance.
Eddy at SoCo Kartworks.
Brian at Gunslinger (Bell).
AAI Speedworks out in Arvada (Bell).
Stacey over in GJMS (Zamp).I don’t of anyone locally that sells Arai but I could be wrong.
Best bet, try to support the local guys first…if you can’t find what you’re looking for let your fingers do the walking.

ParticipantHey guys, thanks for the input.
I was planning on getting a good name-brand lid. I guess I just need to look around and find one that fits, because I sure don’t want a poor fitting helmet. Well, I think I know what I’m doing this weekend!

😯 😕
Or you could hit up Gunslinger. Considering they are a CSC sponsor that’d be the way I’d go.

ParticipantHey, thanks for the referrals, but my ex’s boyfriend paints race cars and helmets, and does an awesome job. If you see me and my son at the track sometime (by the way, I’m Scott, we drive Arrow Rotaxes, and I am about 6’6″ tall), take a look at his lid. It’s awesome! But for some reason he refuses to paint a tie-dye and smiley face theme on mine…!

ParticipantD fresh, I could be wrong here but I think that more than One company can paint helmets.
Im sure Gun slinger is great but Mitch is pretty darn good. And remember, it’s VERY VERY important to choose the RIGHT painter, because we all know that a good paint job makes you look great. But studys show a GREAT paint job can take off at LEAST 2 10ths, easily.
SPIKE AIR!!!

ParticipantTony,
One can only hope you grow through his stage quickly.
My Dad used to tell “if you don’t have something good to say, keep your mouth shut” I guess I didn’t always listen either and said things that made me sound like a weenie too.
Not sure if you ever go back and reread some of your posts, I hope you do. That may help accelerate through this adolescence.

Participant😯
Rick, I was simply saying that other people can paint helmets.I am very very sorry to offend any one by making that bold statement.
And Rick as for this “adolescent” stage I’m currentley in, I can only say I’m sorry that I am young. 😳
Once again sorry.

It’s not that big of a deal Tony. We were all young once, enjoy it while you can.
And yes anyone can paint helmets. And really no one is the BEST. I think what some of the racers lean towards is; supporting those who support your racing. Why not spend your money with someone who is putting back to you?
Maybe Spike would like to help our series this year? There is still room to make what is going to be one of the best regional series even better.
You think some of your comments are “bold” And you may be right. Some of them are so far out there that they are silly really.
So just keep on keeping on Tony. We’ll fire one over the bow if you get out of line. :direct

This was my only point. Didn’t mean to incite a riot. It just seems like common sense to support those that support
