ParticipantNot sure if they have used Ribtechs but IMI will give you a “trade in value” for your used seat if its in good condition. Give a ring.

Oops. Why did I call you “Dave”? We met Sat. at IMI. I know you’re “Doug”.
Sheldon
My brother-in-law’s name is Dave. He had the broken Leopard/Marranello there right beside me. That’s probably why. No worries.
Doug Haner
ParticipantUnderstood, if you have your heart set on something that isnt availiable around here that makes sense.

ParticipantSheldon, just a bit of advice I’ve been given and whole heartedly agree with.
Buy from our local shops, its a good thing to support them or they may not be around when you really need them.
Can you find things cheaper online?
Sure, but supporting the local community is always better. Not all my gear is new, hell very little of it is. But when it came time to get my new flywheel/clutch, piston stop, clutch tool, and Mychron I used the local guys. Like I said, it may be a little more expensive but in the long run its worth it when you have an emergency to deal with or need some local support.
Just my .02. I haven’t had any experience with the sites you listed.

ParticipantThanks Doug.

D-Fresh,
Look at it this way. If it is out of spec Rotax is giving you a new cylinder! A new cylinder cost a lot of $$$. Lets say you don’t do the program and you sell it at the end of the season. The first question that will be asked is, is it Rotax legal? If your a straight shooter you will have to tell them that you don’t know because the cylinder my be out of spec. Then, the value of your engine goes to zero. It isn’t often that Rotax gives anything away for free! Say, Thank-You Thank-You Thank-You and smile alot. As they say in Napcar- Git-R-done!
This makes sense, especially considering the newest update…

Another day, another up date. The only things I really need off the engine are the ignition coil, carb and radiator. Its easier to leave the carb with the kart than it is to leave it on the engine. Just remove the inlet fuel hose and lay the carb off to the side. The ignition system is two bolts and one disconnect on the back side of the engine. The radiator is two clamps and one bolt.
After a bit of arm twisting by the dealers, Rotax is waiving all fees for applying the dual seal. So both programs are a complete no cost to the racer. The only thing you have to lose is the time necessary to pull the motor and a can of carb cleaner so that we can crack it open.
There is no down side to racer.
I just want to verify I’ve got this right. No cost for either the cylinder exchange program or the dual seal application? Does this apply even if the last seal was not done by Shockwave? As long as we get them into you by the 31st of July (end of cylinder exchange) then we should be good to go, right?
Sorry I ask so many damned questions.
Doug Haner
ParticipantOkay, some more questions.
As I understand it the cylinder exchange program is only in effect untill July 31st, correct?
And as I understand it the most suspected engines are the early production Juniors, correct?
If this is correct I have some questions.
What is the likelyhood that non Junior engine of 2005 (I think, I’m at work and don’t have my passport handy) vintage might be effected?
What is the cost of a new cylinder/piston/ring set?
I’m asking this because I definately won’t be able to get my engine in this week and I’d rather not spend the money to have the dual seals done as I don’t think I’m quite ready for any rebuild work as of yet.
For me I’m probably only going to get into a few TAG club races this season and at the very most maybe a CSC event or two. Would it be worth considering to simply wait untill I have my engine serviced next to do the dual seal and check the cylinder? I’m am 100% positive that I will not be competing in any Rotax Challenge events this season.
Doug Haner
ParticipantLooks like I’ll have some work to do.
Everything off? We’re talking flywheel, electonics, carb, radiator and hoses, stripped to everything outside of the seal, right?
Doug Haner
ParticipantJust wanted to say thanks for the seminar Greg.
I think I learned a lot but due to a few “technical difficulties,” rental traffic, and cold track temps, it didn’t translate into lower lap times. I bet it will next time I get out with some good weather and less rental traffic though. That is IF I remember everything. :rotate:
Doug Haner
ParticipantAllright then, count me in.
Doug Haner
ParticipantAre you guys still planning on doing this?
I’m only asking because the weather doesn’t look to be forecasted as nice as it once was. Now they’re calling for a high of 43/44 with isolated rain/snow.
Just curious, I’ll be there as long as its still happening.
Doug Haner
ParticipantSo with help from Rick, Brad, and Shockwave, I’m all set.
Rick helped immensely over the phone, Shockwave sold me the new flywheel/clutch assembly (one of the posts was broken off), and Brad helped me pull the old flywheel and lap on the new one.
All is right in the world again, she works like a champ. I was even able to get a few laps in before it got too cold for me. :loony:
Anyways, again, thanks fellas.

I’ll call to RSVP and tell my Brother-in-law about it as well.
Went down today for a piston stop and clutch tool.
RSVP’d myself for the seminar while I was there. I’m definately looking forward to this.

ParticipantThanks for the pointers fellas.
I’ve got a bit of “Honey do” list to complete, if I get all that done early enough I’ll get out there and take a look at her. If not, I’ll be tearing into her tomorrow night.
Rick, expect a call tonight or tomorrow night.
Thanks again folks.
