ParticipantThere is a good mexican res on North street and there is a brew pub not far. Go south out of the roundy round on Horizon and a couple of blocks down, the brew pub is on the right. To get to the mex res, follow the same basic directions except keep going to north, turn right and its up a couple of blocks on the right. As typical, I can drive to them but don’t know their name! Maybe Stacey can give better directions.
But the best place is the Cold Stone Creamery over by the mall.

Participantlast night, the boys were talking about trying to do standup donuts. They think they have figured out a way to pull it off. I sure wish I had a picture of Greg’s no hander. Anyone got one?

ParticipantI want to thank all those that made it down to the Springs. It was great. The organizers tired to make us feel at home. While the track was a bit small, it did show a bit of the potenntial of what karting is all about.
Jim Fenimore deservs all the credit, he gave us everything we wanted and needed. The racing was good and the number of spectators was unbelievable. During the final round before the rain, we had hundreds lining the entire east side of the track. You couldn’t shoulder your way in!
Jim asked me if the karters were willing to do a parade down main street. He got permision from the police and we did it. Little AJ in his kid kart was a big hit. He was high fiving all the way down the street and the crowd loved it! He said this weekend was his best ever in a kart! The street was packed so tight it was hard to move but the crowd parted like the dead sea and the karters moved through.
The biggest roar from the crowd for donuts was the kid kart who managed to do them in the rain soaked street. That was cool. While I didn’t get to see them, I had to hear about Greg’s no handed donuts all the way home.
Thanks again to all who were there and thanks to Jim for his hospitality. hopefully karting made a big enough impression on them that they will go through the deal for a street race next year.

ParticipantI guess I should post where to go! 😳 Exit from I-25 at Bijou Street and go east. At the first light, Cascade, turn right and go south one block to Pikes Peak. We will be pitting on Pikes Peak and Cascade. Look for someone down there to be directing you into your pit spots.

ParticipantI have been talking with the organizers in the Springs and with NKA that is providing insurance. Things are shaping up quite nicely. It appears that everything will be in place and we can play.
They are asking that we start arriving no earlier than 7:00 AM and things will kick off around 9:00 AM. We will organize the racers to run in groups and we will run one group after another. We will have the race schedule out later this week.
I am asking that everyone remember what this is, an exhibition race. It will be fun with many spectators. They are expecting over 10,000 people in downtown Colorado Springs and many of them will come by to have a look.
This event is about promoting karting. It not about the CSC or CRE or any other organization or track. Its about karting. All racers are invited to attend and all the tracks are invited to come down, set up a booth and show off in front of a crowd of hundreds if not thousands of potential racers. I hope all who come understand the nature of this event and have the good time we know that karting is all about.

ParticipantI have one of the “04 air boxes for our shifter. It has 30mm tubes and I paid $120 for it. It was hand delivered to me at Salt Lake. They had more but I was quoted $150 over the phone for it. I have looked fo rhte Freeline version and have been unable to find that one in stock any where. I was told by MRP that it would be at least a month before they would have more.
I can certainly understand why a racer would want to put one one. The KG air box has a very good filter in it, much like a K&N. Its a flat panel and it will do a very good job of keeping the dirt and rocks out. I have not seen the FreeLine box yet but I have been told the filter in it is not quite as sgood as the KG. I have been quoted $73 to $83 for the FreeLine box. Since our tracks out here tend to have a great deal of airborn dust, I am inclinded to let racers run them in all classes that require airboxs. If they let you get a couple of extra hours out of your top end or prevent the loss of a motor due to sucking rocks, they are well worth the money to put them on.

ParticipantThe ’04 boxes for ICA (or Tag) use 23mm tubes. They are very expensive and yes, they do have a filter. The problem with making them legal is that they are not readily available. I have trying to get them and the only source that seems to have them now is Italian Motors in Canada and they think very highly of them. It will be several weeks before they are more available. We should hold off legalizing them until everyone who wants one can get one.
They would be an advantage over the current boxes OEM boxes.

ParticipantThe rear of our kart was tore up pretty bad. We lost a wheel, axle, tire, side pod, and a rad mount. Greg saw the trouble outside and went inside and made a clean pass only to have Perme come down on him and take his kart apart. We were just a victim in the whole thing. Its a shame, Greg had a good run going. Since he started dead last in the main, his run up through the field was fun to watch. He got as high as 4th before the handling went away and the motor got soft. It just ate too much IMI dust!
To give you an idea how close the field was, I was looking at the fast times for the main event. .7 of a second covered the first 12 karts! For several guys, only thousands of a second was the difference. All of them were running low to mid 52 second range. Fast lap went to Lee Bradford on lap 12. Good job Lee. There is still life in the old moto yet!

ParticipantGreg drove it a bit yesterday and said it was much better. They are going to do still more work today, grinding some of the concrete areas and still more of the asphalt. He also pointed out that the ground areas are REALLY green and offer NO grip. The ground areas will be a little abrasive on tires untill is gets seasoned but that won’t take long.
A big thanks to JB and Ann-Louise for getting this long needed improvement done.

ParticipantJust a quick update. I met with the evetn coordinator yesterday. He is working hard the insurance issues right now and we should have this put to bed this week. We willhave the track design done this weeka ndup on this site if possible. The track will be short, but I think fun. How safe it is depends on you guys :rotate:

ParticipantI can’t give you exact numbers but I can get you clsoe. Its very similar to IMI, maybe just a tooth or two larger on the rear. While the topspeed is about the same, the slow corners are much slower.
