Bold start, Brian! Welcome to the site. Old crotchety guys like Curt Kistler and Ricky Booby will offer you some great advice in between stories of their latest heart attacks and back injuries. Local announcer and TaG World Champ, Tony LaPorta will provide instruction on inverted pickup truck flying.
Have you had the Cr250 out at IMI yet? Did everything hold together? any kart problems? Make sure you do a once over of the kart before you go on track each time. This stuff vibrates worse than a helicopter and stuff will fall off if not secured with nylocks and/or safety wire. We’ll look forward to seeing you at the track. Ask lots of questions or you’ll never learn.
Good one Deason. As soon as I get out of the hospital I’m comin lookin boy. 👿

Sounds like a great time….But before we make plans, i would like to know how many seniors will be making the trip?
Thanks
Mike EdwardsGo out there and kick some Butt Mikey. Here is a complete round up of who has shown up in the past: http://www.superkartsusa.com/points/2012-rockymtn_pkc.html
As karting goes, it’s a crap shoot as to who will show up at this event, but if UT supports this race you guys should have some stout competition. I am sure Stan and Company will make it worth your time and $$$.
Hope all is well. Lovin kartless life in the ABQ. Amazing how much free time we have now

Exactly right Curt!
This past weekend in Utah provided the best racing we will see all year in karting (except of course for that week in Vegas), and in nearly every class the Colorado flag was flying high.
Christian’s and Sabre’s runs in S2 all weekend were legendary with Christian picking up the win on Saturday.
Ryan Rudolph and Mianna Wick represented our state well in S5 also.
And Stacey, I feel the same way about getting karters together. If only there was a regional series that acted as a feeder series to the national pro tour that all of our local racers and TEAMS could be apart of. We could call it the Rocky Mt. Pro Kart Challenge, or the SKUSA Mt. Region or something like that…Ah well, a kid can dream I guess.

Don’t forget about that Falconeeeeeee guy. :trophy Saturday :trophy Sunday

ParticipantBest of luck to you this season Ryan. Keep the Rudolph name on top kid, and stay focused. You were coming hard at the Nats, and if there was one more lap it would have been very interesting to watch you do battle with Austin. CO has always had some of the best S5’s in the country year after year as far back as I can remember. The Schimmel’s run was awesome to watch all season, so back it up with another CO Championship.
See you guys in AZ.

And, if you drive like Deason, add another $4-500 per race for tie rods, axels, mood altering drugs, beer, and post race therapy.
Isn’t all that stuff included in SKUSA’s entry fee? :hypno
PLUHEEEZZZZZZ FREEEEZE! When was the last time you paid for a SKUSA entry? It’s much higher than that now. :loco
OK, Back to the original post. Sorry to keep hijacking your original q’s Eric. But as you can see, we are just a bunch of fun lovin kids at heart. Welcome to CO Karting. You wont be disappointed in whatever equipment you buy. We never raced anything but shifters for many years and had a blast. Spending long days with family and friends can’t be beat. And it’s much safer than anything with 2 wheels. Over 200 stock Honda motos in Vegas last week without one failure. If you keep them stock and run them rich, you wont be spending any unnecessary time or funds on motor maint.

Phew—(can of worms). You’ve been around racing vehicles, stuff breaks on all of them. There are too many variables to say A is better/cheaper than B. Tag–how high are you going to spin it? Shifter–is it a modified or stock shifter? Figure 1,000 bucks or more for a full rebuild on a TaG at least once/year. A honda can go a bit longer and parts are often cheaper on a stock honda. I’d put a new piston and ring in a TaG at about 10 hrs, similair on a Honda shifter, more often if you are racing at the front for both.
Tires will eat your budget, a weekend of racing is about the same price as drifting (you mentioned about 400 bucks.) Figure 75 bucks for an entry fee, 240 (ish) a set for tires, fuel is about 10 bucks a gallon, plus castor oil that I think must be squeezed from baby seals, sprockets and chains are essentially disposable on a TaG if you buy cheap ones, plus the normal food, travel, etc and you are easily looking at 400 bucks. A shifter does not go through chains and sprockets anywhere near as fast, but honestly, that is a minor expense.
Someone will tell you to get a Rotax and may even lead you to believe they are cheaper than other TaG engines and shifters. Leopard(my09 and up) is a good choice as well. If you want to shift, go with a spec honda for reliability and reasonable parts costs.
I forgot this part–a shifter chassis will need front brakes, TaG does not.
And, if you drive like Deason, add another $4-500 per race for tie rods, axels, mood altering drugs, beer, and post race therapy.

Thanks Doug for some very good memories.
All this does is make me a little bummed that we can’t set aside egos and do what’s best for all. RACE AT EACH AND EVERY TRACK HERE IN COLORADO.
Involve Kutcher and SKUSA gang, I don’t care. Let’s all race with bigger fields. Like they just did at the Nats….
I’m just sayin…That’s what I have been sayin, and don’t make me do it, but I have every track owner in CO sayin it on record at one point in time over the past 5 years as well. Not one stock moto blew up in Vegas all week. The TaG’s all ran great, and even the future of karting “Cadet” class was the best racing to watch this weekend too.
It’s a very simple, cost effective, manageable, quick and proven fix to many of kartings problems. But what do we know Mikey? Hope you all figure it out soon, or keep looking for those small events with lot’s of classes for everyone. :peaceCurt Kistler

Good luck to all CO Karters. Represent the best SKUSA Region going. Deb and I are leaving from ABQ right now and will be working the event as well. She will be helping in Registration and I will be working the infield with Terry Bybee and Alan Rudolph. The sweet smell of cigars will be yours truly when you zip by.

ParticipantStacey,
SKUSA is looking into the TaG Masters turn out. All official announcements will need to wait until the correct math has been completed. Mr. Valentino has brought some interesting facts to our attention. Thanks for your understanding.
CurtCurt Kistler
ParticipantThank You Tony. Those are kind words and we appreciate it.
Karting in Colorado always finds it way through new seasons. Change is good, and it needs to be embraced by everyone moving forward. I am sure the karting community will find ways to fix the problems for low turn outs, but until the track owners find ways to mend their indifferences, there will continue to be a division that makes for these low turn outs.
We wish you all the best and we will still see you on the road. Vegas is next, and after that, who knows? The job in ABQ is treating me well and we are looking forward to permanent housing here soon. Next time you are passing through on your way South or West, give us a call. We would love to hear from all of you.
Until then, race hard, stay safe, and remember the golden rule: “It’s just karting”. :co

ParticipantWe are looking for some help from someone with a little trailer space that is heading over to GJ next weekend. We have some tires that need to get over to Stacey. If you have some space, and would like to help out, please contact me at 303-241-8379.
Thanks, I appreciate it.
CurtThis has been set up. Thanks to you who e mailed me and offered. And thanks to Cris Schureman for hauling the tires over to GJ for us.
There should be plenty of fresh MG-SK’s to go around for the final SKUSA MR race, and we will be having a sale of what is left over on Sunday. This will be the best time to purchase practice tires for the SuperNationals. Every little bit helps in this economy.
Curt Kistler
ParticipantChampionships will be decided and paid cash on Sunday during the trophy presentation. Don’t forget about the points bonus for running all (4) rounds. This should make for some pretty good changes at the top. All bet’s are off if your thinking you have a Regional Championship locked down.
Rumor has it that Stacey is making this a money race as well. Hopefully this will offset some of the expense of traveling over the hills.
We will be having a sale on what is left over on MG-SK tires on Sunday as well. If you are planning on running in Vegas and need practice tires, this will be the time and place to save some additional $$$$. The deeper we get into Sunday, the cheaper the tires will get. I do not plan on bringing anything back to NM after this race.
Looking forward to seeing whoever can make it, and thanks to all that E Mailed me about your plans and status. I appreciate it.
