Hello everyone. :hi
There have been a few posts recently about the current condition of our sport in Colorado. Some comments have been positive, and others not so positive.
First off, I would like the thank everyone that has offered to step up to the plate to try to improve our sport.Second, as the 2011 season draws to a close I would like to open a dedicated discussion specifically for the subject of improving our sport. Lets please all keep it on a positive note and focus on how to make things better. Let us know what you want! How many races? What type of engines/classes? Race venues? 1 day vs. 2 day races? Whatever you can think of!
Also, for anyone who wishes to make a statement anonymously, please email your comments to [email protected] and I will post them for you under an anonymous username.
Lets get this thing going! The :green is out!

Thank You! this is what we need and like Mike said please let’s keep things positive and leave the past behind us. 2012 is going to be a great year for karting in Colorado.
September 30, 2011 at 2:58 pm #65408Kirk DeasonParticipant4 Races, no drops. GJMS, Centennial, IMI, and PPIR.
No kid karts, leave that to the club series’, and this is not because I am a kid hater (I have one, she is swell) but the kids should aspire to race in this state championship level series when they get a bit older. Make it an aspirational goal.
Get all of the disgruntled old farts back for those huge fields of crash-o-rama TaG Masters. Make it an over 40 open class which would include any and ALL TaGs, 4 stroke shifters, wankels, vampires, modified briggs, ICC, etc. Then have a pea pick for grid position so there will be tons of passing. Commence backslapping jolly fun.

September 30, 2011 at 5:05 pm #65410[email protected]ParticipantKirk, how will “wankers and vampires” help karting? 😆
My Bad, I know, Wankel (Aixro) and Vampire engines, and they are awesome. So awesome they’d probably need 100 pounds added to be fair to the rest. Yes, there has to be a place for all the great 4-strokes Brad’s been importing, there’s lots of them around — just sitting around — and they’re not heavy enough to hold down a good boat…. So Use ‘Em, and make classes for them and anything else that people have put good money into already, money hard and harder to part with, and even more debilitating when not put to use. That’s when people bail.
Build the classes, and they will come. Work together, and everyone wins.
Seriously, you guys are onto the cure in just talking. Keep Going!!!
September 30, 2011 at 6:10 pm #65411Roger MillerParticipantPPKRC has offered to host a discussion at the last Oct 8th & 9th race at PPIR. The race is in the infield. As always we offer every class to all racers. We have been an advocate of a Race Series and would be glad to participate in it. We don’t charge membership fees to race with PPKRC and have a open tire rule, and fuel along with Open classes. Come down to the Oct. race in the infield. $100 for the whole weekend. (Includes Test and Tune, Pit, Garage Space, Race Entry for Sunday, Driver Wrist Band) Wrist band for all others is $10 per person for the whole weekend. Come down and see what it would be like to have everyone racing together.

I know there are a lot more of us out there that are passionate about this subject than have posted replies.
The only way we can make a difference is to communicate, so lets start talking.
This coming weekend (October 8 & 9) is the final race of the season for PPKRC. Roger Miller has graciously envited everyone down to PPIR and have an opportunity for all of us to let our voices be heard. I encourage all who can attend to come down and lets get these discussions flowing. 2012 can be a great year if we all work together for the good of the sport.
October 5, 2011 at 4:09 pm #65413Shelley BaileyParticipantHi Roger,
What time and day does PPKRC plan on having the discussion this weekend?
Thanks,
ShelleyOctober 5, 2011 at 5:51 pm #65414Steve.BaileyParticipantThis is all well and good however this past week I have had conversations with two different groups of people that didn’t know Karting existed in Colorado at any level. We need to reach out to the folks that aren’t currently involved in our sport. :loco
October 5, 2011 at 5:57 pm #65415stacey cookParticipantRoger,
We would love to make it down however we are headed to the Streets of Lancaster race this weekend. We will be discussing the future of karting at the final SKUSA event the following weekend at GJMS October 15-16th. Let’s take the comments from both and get together in Denver with all karters sometime in the near future. Good luck with your event this weekend.
October 6, 2011 at 1:47 am #65416Tony LaPortaParticipantRoger,
Along with Shelley (and most anybody planning on coming down) I would like to know when you guys are planning on having this ‘discussion’.
Thanks
October 6, 2011 at 12:56 pm #65417Don DempsterParticipantPlease remember to think of all the karters we have racing in Colorado including the kids when discussing this proposed state series
October 6, 2011 at 3:06 pm #65418Eddy WyattParticipantAll
My understanding after talking with Roger yesterday, the meeting is with the drivers that will be in attendance this weekend at PPIR to start the process and take inputs. Inputs will be provided to the other club/track leadership at some point down the road following the end of the season, i.e. Streets of Lancaster, Super Nats, TAG World Finals etc.
Everyone will have an opportunity to be in the process of forming a state wide series for 2012.
Thank you Mike for starting the thread and all who have chimed in on this thread and provided series input.
Respectfully,
Eddy

:coOctober 6, 2011 at 10:14 pm #65419Roger MillerParticipantWe plan on starting the meeting in the Media Center around 4:00p.m. The intent is to gather input from folks an see what direction the drivers would like to go. Everything is on the table and up for discussion. There are no plans to walk out of this meeting with a final solution, just some options. I believe like others that we need to bring the drivers together to see what they want and then figure out what can be worked out with the tracks, promoters, and clubs. PPKRC’s stated mission as a Club is to be inclusive and open to everyone and not to exclude anyone. Our goal is to gather input, define a few possible options, and then meet with the other principles from GJMS, The Track, IMI, SKUSA, CJKC and any other organization that is promoting karting or a venue. Bottom line, after we gather input from the drivers as to what they would like to see, the principles need to get together to make make this work.
PPKRC’s intent on Saturday is to not create a soap box for individuals to get up on and slam others, what we want is an discussion on what the drivers want to see. We don’t want to spend the time talking about what’s wrong, who’s responsible, who did what to who, or way I don’t want so and so involved. We are hosting this to look forward, not backward and to develop a set of possible options to take forward. If you plan on attending, plan on doing some small group work to help develop these possible solutions or options. Our goal is to devise well thought out options that make sense, are inclusive, affordable, safe and meet the needs of the “Most”. Please come prepare to have a fruitful, positive discussion, and please leave the past at home. Lets focus on the future and how we can expose, promote, grow and put our best foot forward in having what we all want, to race with everyone and have a great 2012 racing season. We’ll have either a food Vendor or a BBQ for dinner along with a beer garden for the adults.
If your interested in Test and Tune on Saturday on the infield track its, $40, and racing on Sunday $60. The weather on Saturday morning doesn’t look good but is suppose to get better around noon. Sunday’s weather at PPIR look like it’ll be in the 60’s. Remember the PPIR is in a banana belt, what you see in Denver or even Colorado Springs is very different then what they see at PPIR. Check our web Site for Weather at http://www.PPKRC.Com. We’ll have the meeting rain or shine.
