ParticipantThose are some unbelievable photos Mitch. Some of them almost look photo shopped with a kart suspended in mid air. (I know their not)
The sequence shots are very cool! Hale bales exploding, drivers fighting the forces of spinning.
I know why you mentioned no desire to lay on the bales past the jump after Roman got crossed up right on top of you. I’d move too.
Looks like some great vantage points to shoot from this weekend.
Thanks
Rick Schmidt
ParticipantGreat to hear Charles!!!
Everyone wanted to help you with whatever needed to be done. The Tag Masters race was dedicated to you and was called after your incident. The drivers voted to call it a race after the track went red for 30 minutes or so. The lure of a cold beer after waiting could have been a factor too!
Glad your O.k.

ParticipantGreat article! Great Family!

ParticipantYes Eduardo,
Charles took a nasty tumble after the “jump” He was conscious and moving but was taken by ambulance to receive medical attention. Just hoping he is alright.
His Shockwave / Rotax is certainly secondary to his recovery and condition. But looks like there is going to be little usable from the machine.

The drugs wore off and I still feel somewhat the same. Jim, surely you’ve been around long enough to know people put things off till the last minute. I doubt you would have made the investment to get the Grands based on 5 drivers participating from the home series.

Let the complaining begin…
These thoughts are mine and not The Tracks…
JimThanks for keeping your thoughts and The Tracks separated! Lol
Guess it’s easy to armchair quarterback. I don’t know enough to offer a solution or if there is a legitimate combining of other groups.
At least the old forum got lit up a little! Oh.. we’ll not be ready in August either, glad no one else will be.

ParticipantTom!
You have never covered more territory in a post. You are a passionate racer who is not afraid to state “what it was” For this, my hat is off to you and my tuning book / trailer is open to you. (if your honest with me, my whole play book is open Tom) Any component or bit of info is available to you Tom. I try to slow my guys down Tom but you get the whole meal deal!
For all those ready to pounce on the obvious. (we all know who were using good judgment on and consider a family who may not have done anything wrong who will be in the sport another 13 – 15 years all told!
As far as the start We’re sorry for sticking you in the side pod. It got a little crazy in turn 1. Roman always takes the low road. And tried to miss your side pod in 1, probably cost you a side and definitely cost Roman a new nose and rear bumper, he was off you till a rear impact and we just rolled under your front end. He followed Jay, then dropped behind you for turn 1, got rammed but had no where to go.
You and Roman finally resolved it in the hairpin several laps later. Tom, you made a mistake and Roman would have followed you till the end. But you made a mistake. It could have been Roman making the same error. It could have been us! I love you 2 forcing a momentary lapse, that’s really what sportsmanship is all about.
Please come and compare tuning with us next time. At least we are on the same engine package and have learned a few things. Don’t think Joey will let the same thing go next year and our series will survive if they attention’s is payed.I had to go back to my trailer to review “front row, seat helmet cam” of the whole affair. (much better than anyone else has I think) Before breaking it out in front of God and everybody. Just like the Super Nationals when Roman was accused of contact after being overtaken on the back straight. Better bring a valid argument over boys. I just can’t rub their nose in it like that! I reviewed our footage and you boys were racing, I’m not posting anything but the spirit of ntent. If you can beat Roman into turn one, get it done. We’ll follow you and sort later. You are much more of a sportsman than ever expected Tom. Roman t-boned you in turn 1 and held both of you till the pack was at least a half lap ahead of you 2. You bastards damn near caught them in the end, A hairpin “slight slide” Again, Tom. I don’t really need a camera to follow my driver through this little event. But everything you state is aligned with our usual observations for sure!

What I find amazing though is that watching the Mini Max or Intl RMax videos you see great driving. Pushing hard but nothing unreasonable.
I wish we could get some of that sense and balance into all of the classes. I know this is hard to do, but we have some smart and dedicated people in this group. A first turn pileup should not be that bad!Your theories are impeccable. The 1st corner “pile up should not be that bad” I agree with. Honestly, we’d take, we’ll any other engine package to get through turn one” (there are so many available) I wish we could see front running performance from you in kart racing, then weigh your opinions accordingly. JJ. I’ve also flown R/C in competitive environments in the past, can’t really think of too much that actually relates to this conversation. Other than the fact you may have spent 30 – 50 G’s following a particular series for hopes of getting in the big one” for your chosen sport. I did spend quite a bit to be competitive in an R/C environment, (helicopters) to be competitive on the big stage. And spent some of my time with individuals who could buy myself, or our track owners a couple times over, (sorry Jim) They had big $.
My driver is clean and will race you to the bare bone if called for. We were where you are 5-6 years ago and appreciate your comments. If it was closer to the heart and soul of what we do, it would be given more weight for us. But this has much more at stake. It’s just not the same place. Not knocking where you are.
You are a very nice man and the consummate “club racer” and I look at everything you post in that light. Unfortunately JJ. we are at the other end of the grid than you. (hopefully that changes in the next year or two) and the perspective is different, as the National level R/C flying is. And moving forward, you can make a positive impact on racing here. It takes respect to get others behind you in word, or example!

JJ,

ParticipantSo glad he is going to recover!
Did not see the incident but did see them loading him into the car. Looks like a big strong guy who was in considerable pain at the time.
Roman, Lucy and Rick are all pulling for a full and speedy recovery Don.

ParticipantWhat Doug said.
And if the started case cracked, I’ve welded those and added a support ring, it worked just fine. I would weld it for you if this is the case. (pun intended)
As a side note. It’s not a bad idea to keep the chain lube build up cleaned out of the starter bendix area in front of the clutch.
Doug,
How bout designing a bellows spring installation tool? You would sell a ton of them.
