I don’t want to bash anyone’s reputation on this site. It seems like a really good forum and I hope to use it often.

    Thank you.

I don’t think this forum is a really a good place to air displeasure or a negative perception with one of our Karting shops without at least a phone call or something to clarify your experience. It can hurt the future of the shop owner particularly with the nations eyes on us now, I’m sure the forum is heavily viewed with the Rmax Grands coming our way.

Barry may not be the most “touchy feely guy” but he does care about our racers, new, old, on his team or whatever and could be a great resource for you in the future if you start racing and continue racing. And once you really have coversation with him he is a good man and a runs a good shop.

We are not on his race team but have been around him for several years while racing and I think he would give anyone the shirt off his back.

Just go hang around the other kid kart race teams and you will learn so much. I’m sure going to Bandi was a great source of information, all of the racers and shop owners would be glad to help you start on the right foot. The Track this weekend will be a good source of information.

The forum can get a little negative at times, but there are a lot of great people involved and it has been a wonderful influence on my son. I hope you and your family take to karting and love like so many of us do!

    Good luck and welcome.

    Yes Graeme,

This goes along with my point. Even if you have to change seats in your new kart, get help. A mis positioned seat will never let the kart work right and won’t be fun to drive.

And the little incidendals when putting something together add up. We have great sources for complete previously owned units.

    Also Ktm,

You may want to consider buying a complete used package. You will more than likely get some spares and there is always incidentals when peicing a kart together. It may also be sorted out to some degree.

    Ktm,

If you’re not actually going to race this year but just get seat time. Most any non boost port motor package would work. The Rotax is extremely dependable and offers a lot of options if you do decide to compete. The engine package requires some finesse to drive fast at first, but nothing you can’t handle and every new Rotax driver dosen’t go through. To run at it’s highest performance levels also requires some tuning ability as the motor is over carbed but there is a lot of help out there and you wouldn’t need to have it on the edge. We ran a Rotax for 2 years without a rebuild and were still competitive. Not that I would advocate that far past reccomended interval.

We have also been very happy with our Motori and there are a lot of Leopards out there as well. Depending on your size, a used Biland package would be pretty hands off for your first year and has torque to pull weight.

Buy something that is resalable and supported in our area. You will need spares even if you’re just getting seat time.

Not sure an arrive and drive would be pratical as a practice option for the year. At very high levels of the sport, it might be an option but a well tuned unit is what you’ll get and will pay respectively.

If it’s not in the cards this year, go rent at the different tracks and get your seat time as you can afford. This is not a cheap hobby in general but for racing it’s pretty good bang for the buck. I know people that spend more on golfing, model airplanes etc…

And despite what some feel may be on this forum at times, it’s some of the best people you and your family could hang with.

    Later.

150-162 would get you covered for the most part. We’ve seen the density altitude well over 10,000′ at steamboat and ran leaner than that. But that would cover most of your needs.

I’ve still got about 20lbs of Centennial mud to clean off the kart from the last geo-sampling mission. I’m psyched.

If you plan on any more geo-sampling, you should put your kart stand tires on the old Dominator before you go out.

Also Mike Jansen may have some helpfull hints on removing large amounts of mud from your kart! 😆

Pssshaw…you better bring your A-Game, I’ll be rocking the DOMINATOR. Sunday, right? That will be a blast.

For those who don’t know, I am driving Chuck’s old Easykart. And now I’m going to embarrass him in his new slotax kart.

Sounds like the gloves are off! :argue

    Kirk,

If you want to see the Dominator rock, strap Dustin in for a few laps.

Sorry Ken, didn’t want you to purchase the wrong one. And I hate to see Kirk running on cords because he thinks he needs a 260.

This weekend is for getting stuff ready to run.

AJ. has a 4-stroke you can ride, it is a really cool power band to drive. We can drop a seat insert in it for you. It’s kinda cool to drive a few different packages to give you a reference of what you do and don’t like.

It’s cool you’re picking up on the nuances of your machine. I had to make big changes to Romans kart without telling him, he came in and said “it won’t turn” I told him. o.k. that’s a push. Try making some sizable changes and feel the difference. You will find out what you like that way. We never changed an axle the 1st year Roman raced (unless it was bent) now we could try 2-3 a day.

There is nothing wrong with your kart, bye the way. It looks like it is a competitive package in Tag for some regions but when I saw Dustin Courter struggling to stay in the top 5-6 positions, I wondered if it was going to be competitive here. Have never run one though.

    Have fun this weekend.
