You are at a great resource for karting information right here. The people are the best. I just got my son started last August and it has been a blast. I would be willing to share my experiences with you if it helps you out. Also, if the weather cooperates, we will be at the The Track at Centennial this Sunday. You are welcome to come out with your kids and I will show the ropes (the little I know after six months) and explain to you the $’s it would take to get going.
There are several people here that could help you find a good used kart that would be competitive with the new engine rules for this year. It is less expensive than you may think if you don’t have to everything brand new.
Shoot me and email at if you would like to talk.

I stopped by, and I have to say that I was not impressed. I don’t know if it was the fact that 1) we’re new to karting, 2) we’re not ready to dump a bunch of cash yet, or 3) that we wanted to talk about kid karts that got us such a brush off. I think it’ll be quite a while before we consider going back there. And their web site is dead.
Ouch! Barry really is a nice guy, and has a great track record of helping everyone out in our karting community. Sure you were in the right place?

You must have caught Barry at on off moment. He is ace’s when it comes to helping out. Why don’t you bring your child out to Action Karting around 12:30 on Sunday, there will be a bunch of us (parents of the little racers to be) to talk to and get familiar with. If you have any thing you would like to discuss before hand please feel free to call me.

Every one of us has off days or times when we just don’t have time. Barry is one of the good guys in our sport and I’m sure if you give him another chance, you will be impressed.
Used kid karts are a bit hard to come by in that they get snapped up quickly when a kid moves up to a cadet. Many of us do not stock kid karts because there isn’t enough in them to make them worth keeping in stock. Most of us only order them when a customer wants one. The best time to look for one is in the fall when kids are moving from kid karts to cadet.
But having said all that, the get together of kid karts at Bandi this weekend would be a good place for you to stop in at. Jay and company will have several of them over there and they can help get you pointed in the right direction. We will be at The Track tomorrow and you are welcome to come over and talk with us. We are easy to find, we have Shockwave Karting on the trailer and our shirts.

ParticipantBDT,
I am out of karting now but lived karting for years until last year. Barry at Billet is one of the coolest guys around. Not to mention, he produces results on the track. Barry has high end professional racers under his tent as well as the noobie just starting out. He treats every one of his customers the same. Do not confuse his being busy with being rude. I am sure you are like me, when I go to a shop I expect 100% attention. Sometimes the ball get’s dropped.
You will also find that every kart shop in Colorado is great. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. But, with success comes customers. With customers comes stress & hectic 18 hour days that you can not do everything. Shop owners: Be careful what you wish for.
I worked with Barry for several years and he gets the job done and has fun doing it. Bottom line is, if you want to go faster and win then sign with Barry. If you want 100% attention all the time it is impossible. No shop in Co will be able to do that AND help their customers win.
Word of wisdom to anyone that has NOT owned a kart shop: RACE WEEKEND FRIDAYS SUCK. If you want to BS about racing come in on Tuesday.
I hope this helps and does not cause debate. I am simply trying to paint a picture of good ol Barry.
By the way, I was one of the suppliers that could not get him kid karts so blame me. Like Doug said, there is very little if any money in Kid karts and I have all the free work at home that I can handle. I am sure Barry could work on getting you a couple of karts if you give him a little time.
Barry, I am trying to make it over the hill to see my tall customer (Back Permitted) and might talk Kelly into sticking around for the races. I will let you know if I feel up to it in the next couple of days.

ParticipantRichie, thank you! We all know that’s what Barry is about and it’s unfortunate that a new karter had to catch Barry on quite possibly the busiest week of his year.
By the way, when are you gonna be over here, Vegas was the last time I saw you and it was short lived. Give me a call if you’re in town.

ParticipantWhats up T Money,
I am firghting my back again. i can’t wait til surgery. I have some business things to put in place before I get cut up so everything runs as smooth as possible. I was hoping to come over the hill this week but Dr said no travel for a bit.
I plan on spending some Q time at the track with all of my extended family as soon as I can start walking upright like a human again. I will come by the tent once in a while and “Super Tune” your kart.
I am looking forward more to this year then any other. I will miss racing with Alan though. I had a great time on and off the track. Will take some getting used to, not being at STARS.
Say hello to your whole famn damily. I will be over there soon.

I don’t want to bash anyone’s reputation on this site. It seems like a really good forum and I hope to use it often.Thank you.
I don’t think this forum is a really a good place to air displeasure or a negative perception with one of our Karting shops without at least a phone call or something to clarify your experience. It can hurt the future of the shop owner particularly with the nations eyes on us now, I’m sure the forum is heavily viewed with the Rmax Grands coming our way.
Barry may not be the most “touchy feely guy” but he does care about our racers, new, old, on his team or whatever and could be a great resource for you in the future if you start racing and continue racing. And once you really have coversation with him he is a good man and a runs a good shop.
We are not on his race team but have been around him for several years while racing and I think he would give anyone the shirt off his back.
Just go hang around the other kid kart race teams and you will learn so much. I’m sure going to Bandi was a great source of information, all of the racers and shop owners would be glad to help you start on the right foot. The Track this weekend will be a good source of information.
The forum can get a little negative at times, but there are a lot of great people involved and it has been a wonderful influence on my son. I hope you and your family take to karting and love like so many of us do!
Good luck and welcome.
Rick

ParticipantI’ve got a great way of reducing the negativity and negative posts:
I’ll go to the 99 cent store and get a boatload of squirt guns. If someone whines and carries on in a negative way the next time we see this person you have my permission to squirt said person in the face.
Can I get someone to second the motion? (Rick, i’m squirting you first 8) )
