ParticipantI’ve never heard of a NASCAR track coming here but I have heard rumors of a road course/motorsports facility somewhere near DIA. First I heard of it was probably 4 years ago and nothing has happened yet, so I think they’re just that, rumors.

ParticipantI have heard that rumor for years. IMI is not for sale and not going to close anytime soon. I do not know where the rumors start but they are incorrect.

There is a lengthy post over at Big West Racing about the proposed NASCAR track in Colorado and there are some references to how many tracks are dissapearing in Colorado. It was even posted that IMI is up for sale. I figured someone has the facts skewed, seems like a silly idea to pave a track that wont be around very long.
Info is coming from a site mostly frequented by Roundy Rounders, what ever thats worth.
Why wouldn’t a NASCAR track be around very long?
I personally think this is maybe one of the worst 5 states for car racing period.
Also, NASCAR is very fun to watch. Watching how those cars get loose at 170mph and how the drivers actually keep them from crashing is truly amazing.

InactiveI think Ken was reffering to Brad repaving Imi this year and it not making sense if he is selling. Brads had his chances, I’m sure. It just keeps getting worth more money and closer to civilization. He’s no dummy.
As far Nascar goes. I hear a lot of negative comments about it. I like racing and it is racing and some times pretty good racing. I also like lawn mower racing at the other end of the commercial spectrum, but to me it’s still racing. If Roman (however remote the possibility would be) or any of our friends got an oppurtunity to race that series, I would be elated.

ParticipantThe closing of tracks that were refered to would be Second Creek, Mead, and Pikes Peak International, all three of which closed within months of each other. I think the biggest impact has been on the Colorado SCCA. The closures forced me to sell out of my Spec-7 car for a huge loss to someone in California and come back to karting (which is much more fun and challenging by the way). I know that the SCCA along with other sanctioning bodies and car clubs have been trying to raise funds and finalize a facility called C.A.M.P. (Colorado Amature Motorsports Park) but I have not heard anything about in lately. Karting seems to be the only form of motorsports realy growing in this state. Like it or not, if a big NASCAR track did come to town it would be great for our economy.

ParticipantOff thread here Ken but who do you think owns that unscrupulous mainstream media that likes picking up turds? Is it the dillusional illogical liberal minority?

ParticipantOne site discussed was due south of DIA, just next to I-70. There was a little air field called Aurora Air Park that closed down because the lland owner shut down the lease because of interest in the racing track. they tore down the airport and since then nothing has happened.

ParticipantAt this week?s city council meeting in Commerce City more than a hundred protesters showed up with lots of signs saying something to the effect of, ?No Nascar in Commerce City!? Do they know something we don?t? And if so, why would the non-racing community know more about this than the racing community?
As someone who has raced hundreds of times, helped others race and watched many races I can proudly say I love racing. It comes in all shapes and sizes but racing is racing. I?d love to see a Nascar track in Colorado.
I think Brad should sell his property to Nascar with a cause that allows him to race the #48 car with his tommy gun onboard. Just keep the kart and MX tracks open. CNS too!

ParticipantI love the fact that Aurora is +- $9M annually upside down to pay their own bills, and decided against the last track attempt 3 years ago. Just one NASCAR race would have generated +$20M to their bottom line.
HOW DOES THAT TASTE AURORA?I will almost bet that those protesters in Commerce City think their new soccer stadium will pay for all of their future overhead also.
Those race tracks are noisy and attract bad people………
Ever go to a real soccer game? Don’t you know there is a airport out there?
As far as rumors go, there is a real effort going on right now to purchase Pikes Peak Raceway for private race fans only. If you are interested in finding out more information, give me a PM and I will put you in contact with the man. This is not a prancing stallion BTW.

ParticipantCommerce City is a crap hole.
They’re even trying to rename it because its such an Armpit.
I hate Colorado…worst state for racing besides Wyoming.

I dont know about Wyoming as a whole but I have to jump in here a put in a good word for Big Country Speedway in Cheyenne.
They let the Mini-Cup cars in last year and completly supported the program in its first year. Randy the track owner, Jerry the promoter and Dennis the track manager gave us a break and let us in the gate. 6 of the 15 Mini-Cup races on our schedule this year will be at BCS. While its been a struggle for other divisions to get races scheduled BCS said that we could race any night the track was open. BCS is not like the Kart tracks that are open through the week for practice but all I have to do is call one of these guys and the gate will be open when we get there.
They are almost as good as the people running the CSC 😀
