Hey Rick don’t forget about me! 😥

Interesting post. At least now I know who landed on top of me.

With the large number of Rotax Masters in both of the first two races, it seems like there is justification for running us in a separate race.

Hey dont forget about the green newby either…

That was my 3rd race in my life! This is my first season ever. (What were you guys doing in your first seasons ever-I Know Tony was beating up on a few folks in TaG-he’s got raw talent.) Anyway I thought when I signed up for this series it would be split. I was one of the first to sign up. I didnt really know anything about any of it except that Mojo’s would last longer (cheaper for me to race) There would be only 4 races(cheaper yet). Didnt really know what Grands meant? I thought I was going club racing? Jim laughs every time I tell him that. I have finished both mains. I was 11th out of 16 in the first-I think only 6 in front of me are from our series. I finished 6 out of 12 last Sunday. I dont have any ‘Grand’ Illusions but I’m in this thing and I just finished my 3rd race in my life. If we were split you guys might have a better chance-be careful or I might keep finishing. I’m running in the 58’s now-not bad from 1:01’s last week. I moving in the right direction and cant wait to get to IMI.

I also cant wait to take the weight off and strap on some MG’s

I agree with Rick-it should be split. It works both ways however. I was held up much of the race from Mike in #47. Mike and I had a blast and he is usually way faster then me. We talk all the time and just love being out ther. He doesnt choose to spend much money like me and is there for the fun. We had a BLAST out there! I know his kart wasnt right but regardless he has a Leopard and MG’s. I just wanted to finish so I didnt do anything stupid and stayed close behind him. We both made clean passes on each other throughout the race but in the end I was being held up.

On a broader note-I just feel like its a little dangerous out there-maybe because its because I’m new-I dont know. I suppose its good practice. The back of my kart was a mess-good thing I run those wide safety bars. I’d rather be Black Flagged for a safety bar flapping then have
a go-kart as a razor for my bald head.

It’s great fun however and the people make it that way, j

I arrived in Seattle Monday morning about 12 hours after the club race at The Track on Sunday. It is Tuesday and I am sitting in a hotel room in Seattle and it time to say something about this whole thing. Jay and I have spoke and all is good. We race the same and I want Jay racing with me. He brings up the quality of the field.

First, I race to win and figure anyone behind me races liekwise.

Second, if you do not get upset or pissed off about wrecking or being wrecked in a main you do not have the same passion I do for race day.

Third, the only reason I race in the TAG Masters group is because I like the racers, all of them! I could simply remove the 40lbs of lead off of my kart and run TAG Sr. or Rotax Int.

Fourth, I believe the Rotax Masters should be a seperate race from the TAG Masters race.

Fifth, anyone who thinks they can watch fom the outside and pass judgement is insane.

Sixth, bumping in the TAG class is expected. What we see here in CO is childs play.

Finally, looking back on the weekend, I had a great time. Thanks to all who participated, spectated, officiated, and competed. I hope Don recovers quickly.

    Tom!

You have never covered more territory in a post. You are a passionate racer who is not afraid to state “what it was” For this, my hat is off to you and my tuning book / trailer is open to you. (if your honest with me, my whole play book is open Tom) Any component or bit of info is available to you Tom. I try to slow my guys down Tom but you get the whole meal deal!

For all those ready to pounce on the obvious. (we all know who were using good judgment on and consider a family who may not have done anything wrong who will be in the sport another 13 – 15 years all told!

As far as the start We’re sorry for sticking you in the side pod. It got a little crazy in turn 1. Roman always takes the low road. And tried to miss your side pod in 1, probably cost you a side and definitely cost Roman a new nose and rear bumper, he was off you till a rear impact and we just rolled under your front end. He followed Jay, then dropped behind you for turn 1, got rammed but had no where to go.

You and Roman finally resolved it in the hairpin several laps later. Tom, you made a mistake and Roman would have followed you till the end. But you made a mistake. It could have been Roman making the same error. It could have been us! I love you 2 forcing a momentary lapse, that’s really what sportsmanship is all about.
Please come and compare tuning with us next time. At least we are on the same engine package and have learned a few things. Don’t think Joey will let the same thing go next year and our series will survive if they attention’s is payed.

I had to go back to my trailer to review “front row, seat helmet cam” of the whole affair. (much better than anyone else has I think) Before breaking it out in front of God and everybody. Just like the Super Nationals when Roman was accused of contact after being overtaken on the back straight. Better bring a valid argument over boys. I just can’t rub their nose in it like that! I reviewed our footage and you boys were racing, I’m not posting anything but the spirit of ntent. If you can beat Roman into turn one, get it done. We’ll follow you and sort later. You are much more of a sportsman than ever expected Tom. Roman t-boned you in turn 1 and held both of you till the pack was at least a half lap ahead of you 2. You bastards damn near caught them in the end, A hairpin “slight slide” Again, Tom. I don’t really need a camera to follow my driver through this little event. But everything you state is aligned with our usual observations for sure!

For years when I was trying to get more people racing potatoes we were always told bring on five and you have a class.
There is now 2 classes of potatoes running togather with 7 total in there races. Run the mod potato with apples = 15 karts. The jrII potatoes in front of jr I potatoes = 14 karts. Then the oranges can peel them selves with 13 karts and maybe we could get Roman to wear himself out racing apples, oranges and 4 banger potatoes.
    Where’s the beef?

    Well put Tom-
You’re a pleasure to race with and get to know as well.
As a newbie, I have no idea of the money that you more advance racers have spent or spend. I have no idea of the time and effort you all have put in. I take the attitude of the beginners mind. All I can do is come to the Track twice a week and practice with my limited budget, beat up van and heavy ass weighted kart. I have been in the dark on these Mojos, I dont even have much experience on MG’s for God’s sake. I have a super limited budget with a wife in school etc. I dont know from week to week if I will even be able to stay in the sport due to our financial obligations. I come strictly for the experience. Believe it or not there are guys like me that dont NEED to win.
If I had to win I would at least buy a front end alignment tool-until then I get good folks like Tim George to help. Anyway my point is that I most likely will never have the experience, talent, time, maybe money, to compete on a national stage-nor do I give a s___t! I am here strictly for the fun and experience of racing with excellent folks like Tom, Roman, Jim, Jay, TONY, Mike J, Mike #47, etc, etc.

I make it a point to not screw the good guys up-I point to the side I want them to come through on. I learned this from Tom-never really heard it ina drivers meeting however. I look behind me after the hairpin to see if I have bunched a line of drivers. I know where I am in relation to the front runners. I look at the flags and marshals. I know I can always come down the hot grid if I need to. I prefer to be towards the rear of the grid with my level of experience. I am still learning and will continue to have a beginners mind attitude until I die.

My point is that not all of us care as much about winning as you might think. Now I know this is a way-out there concept for most motor head -hard core racers. None the less it exists. I thought I was getting into club racing. I’m glad I’m getting a taste of this level however. You most likely will always see Team BFD, racing out of a beat up van, without a laptop, working from a small tool box, no tire racks in sight and a big smile on our faces. We love the sport and love to learn from you pros. Thanks for having us, j

It could have been Jansen starting in the back (because A.J
Foyt forgot to tell him (personally) to be on grid for qualifying) laying back 10 spots to get a run at it, resulting in passing 6-8 karts before turn 1. It could be Mike under fire right now if one of those 6 – 8 karts would have pulled out to pass! Right?

First of all AJ would have taken me back to the woodshed (again) and slapped me upside the head and said, “pull your head out your butt son!”

Second, nowhere in the rules does it say I can’t lay back for the start. I told the next to last qualifier what my intent was and nowhere in the rules does it say “you can’t do that”. It does, however, say there is NO passing until the green light is shown. I passed when the light was shown and not sooner. That’s called head’s up driving.
Had I gotten more agressive and tried to pass more karts into the first corner and caused a melee (because I couldn’t stop in time) then that’s headupbutt driving. There’s a HUGE difference. Slotting into the traffic and positioned for the remaining corners and laps is what it’s about. Again, NO RACE WAS EVER WON IN THE FIRST CORNER OR FIRST LAP

Headupbutt is when you miss your qualifying session. I hurt no one but myself doing that but I had enough sense and driving acumen to know it would & could be overcome in the heat race by KNOWING when to be aggressive and finishing. 8)
