ParticipantNo, I think they all have to have the required numbers and colors.

ParticipantJust saw this, might be of interest to you. Seems like a great price for a good namebrand driving shoe. They also have some close outs.

ParticipantFuzzy,
Angie can help. She can be contacted through this site.
Also look at a Csc race on MyLaps and see what numbers are taken in the class you want.
http://www.mylaps.com/results/showevent.jsp?id=254277
Angie also post’s an entry list as people rgister for the series, with numbers given on a 1st come 1st serve basis. With priority given to previous number holders.

ParticipantLarry,
Yellow background with a black number for Masters. And that carries into the club series as well as the Csc.

ParticipantYeah, I was trying a bit too hard.
I had someone do splits on me vs. Paul and John.
I was faster than them by two tenths in the driving sections, from turn one, through the entrance to the chicane. BUT, I lost 4 tenths to them from the exit of the chicane to the entrance to turn one. Most of is was in the last turn, the big sweeper.
I was doing splits on you guys and Roman. We were right in there with you. Same problem, just could not tune through the sweeper. Bad place to struggle. There goes the trap speed in the passing zone. We were sitting ducks. Real free and fast through the infield, too free through the sweeper. It does not help when you only get 5, 7 minute practice sessions and run over a bungee cord in one session and get taken out by someone getting back on the track in another. We felt 2 sessions behind everyone the whole race. Thats racing and we love it.
Glad your injury happened at this time of the season. You’ve got a month. Right? Someone told me your frame was bent, we knew there was more to it than that. Your shop is not that far away, worse case scenario.
Enjoy the holidays, don’t sneeze, don’t laugh, don’t yawn, don’t breath…

ParticipantSounds like a great proposition.
I have some “links” for you Andy! Where the drink flows and the men swing a real club and lie about the… Wait that’s golf…(which I suck at too) Never mind.
Congrats to your team at the Super Nats. By the way. Pretty impressive. I can understand why you sat it out due to being a little sore. Sitting down there trying to figure out what the hell Romans kart was doing in the sweeper, didn’t expect to see that hard of an impact from anyone in practice, much less you. Must have been hurting. Smart to lay back a little.

ParticipantAndy,
Not up arms at all.
Although, it would seem to me, you race to earn the trip. If we were just going to send over whoever has the best chance of winning. Why race and assume all the cost involved to throw your hat in the ring. Just send fastest guy, even if he has a bad day and is toward the end of the field?
Now, if I traveled across the country to compete, and the first 7 placing racers accepted or declined, and I did not get a chance, finishing directly behind them in 8th. Then, I would be up in arms. Particularly if that is how it is published to work.
Personally we could not afford to go anyway, but would appreciate the oppurtunity of being offered the chance. I have no idea of the proccess, they may have worked down the list and had no takers on the short notice and they did all they could. Filling these spots in the eleventh hour could be tough I suppose.
All this coming from a guy who showed up at the Grands with a fresh bullet and a good running spare, thinking I had everyone in this amatuer race covered! Or at least had as good of chance as the next guy. Imagine my suprise when I walked the paddock, looked in these big tents and saw racks and racks on motors, track simulating dyno’s, authorized dealers snapping seals after most sessions. Kind of felt like the original intent of Rotax “got away from them”. Don’t get me wrong, we love the motor, and have run it since we started racing. (7 years?) We know there are racers (you may be one of them) that show up with motors off of their rental karts and do well. Thats what we thought it was all about too.
It’s not a perfect world. Can’t say I could do any better. Not up in arms, Not bitter. Just got an education on the program last year.

ParticipantKyle was invited with a 5 day window. He only had to pay airfare and spending money. Not enough time.
There has been some discussion on Ekn about this.
http://www.ekartingnews.com/viewtopic.php?t=64188&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=45Maybe some others were invited and where in the same boat and they went all the way down the list bofore making the choice they did?

ParticipantSome of the things I’ve seen with the whole Rotax thing, make me wonder!

ParticipantGarrick,
Where you there? You better not have been there and not come hang with us!
It’s so much fun there. The best kart race we’ve attended, by far. And that includes my years bidding for a National Super kart title at some monumental events, Cascade Locks, the Shootout… whatever… Even with the struggle, getting Roman a set up he was comfy with, it was awesome. We’re competitors for sure. But I’m also a big enthusiast of motor racing and can’t tell you how much I love going up there and watching the racing. Pulling for our Colorado / Utah boys is just a bonus for me. Seeing all of the big names in our sport and some of the elite Euro’s going head to head with the best we have was incredible.
I have some good photo’s but need to figure out how to make them smaller. It says, they “exceed maximum file size”?
You better come run it next year Garrick. It will make you a much better racer on your home turf, And you’ll have the time of your racing life. I guarantee it! You other Csc guys / gals too. Come out and Do it!

I only can guess we don’t have any racers on here?Speak for yourself Rod.
This Vampire team would love to get in front of a crowd and make some snow cones.
Your competitors would be much better off run over by the Silver Rocket racing studs than your potato peeler / deer whistle, D tube job.

Next year, The Track at Centennial will be running a Masters DD2 class. It will be a true Masters, class, with 35 the minimum age. Weight will be 420#.Doug, this going to be strictly age based without weight consideration? If RMC chooses to run a dd2 Masters, will it be run along the same lines as Rotax masters, offering a place for heavy drivers. Spoke with Joe about this last weekend and that seemed to be the drift. Local option for 35 years minimum?
Post by Doug Welch
The cost of a DD2 package is $1,000 to $1,200 less than any of the current 4 cycles when you include the radiator and mounts.
You and I have spoken about the cost of a new DD2, assembled and out the door. Even considering “street prices” seems the 4-Stroke is a little less money. Maybe I’m missing something.
Post by Doug Welch
For most racers, this package will be far less maintenance than just about any kart engine,Even less maintenance than a 4 Stroke?
Post by fuzzy on Fri 11 23, 2007 7:19 am
So someone tell me about the tag 4 stroke class…tell the difference in maintenance, costs, where can I see one of them…give me enough info to be interested.Fuzz, pretty much, what Curt said. These are bumping the high 50’s at IMI, close to full on Icc times but with very drivable horsepower. You can see ours, we would like to get 1000 – 1200 laps this off season (come on weather) so we’ll be out there.
A wise man once said “it’s stupid to start someone in a shifter” and I had to agree with him.

fuzzy wrote:So someone tell me about the tag 4 stroke class…
…And do they use 219 chains? How are the chains holding up with all that power, or are they turning at enough lower RPM that it’s not a big issue?
Garrick, they use 219 chains. We change every 2 race weekends, but I do the same with a Rotax or Tag. If you do not adjust your tension properly or trail brake excessively, it will clean the gears right off. We have not had a chain or gear failure in the 1st year. Come out and ride it. They have amazing engine brake power and balls deluxe on the bottom.
The DD2 is a great package with stable rules. But the 4 stroke is brutal and will probably become the fastest growing class, not only as it was last year in Colorado, but in karting in general. Been watching Moto Cross for the past 5 years? The 4-Strokes are here to stay. Doug mentioned “several engines sold this fall” so there may be good size classes in the light and heavy DD2, the 4 Strokes already have several packages sitting on karts now. I guess we’ll see next year. We want to race against the largest, deepest fields.

ParticipantOk Fuzz,
Here goes. I have to send in bits, some files are big. Do you know what motor yet? (not going to send you Delorto info if you’re going Leopard) Have you considered Tag 4-Stroke? Many of last years Tag Masters are going that direction. More power, but more drivable power, less tuning fuss, more time to polish the driving skills and race craft skills.Have you sat in a kart that is set up for a tall driver? You may actually add weight to race in Masters. Where do you live? Jansen lives in Longmont and I’m sure he wouldn’t mind you sitting in his kart to see if there are obstructions or if it feels uncomfortable. Just a thought. He is the tallest driver in our region, probably a few inches taller than you and carrying another 10 – 20 lbs. You’re only an inch taller than Roman and a hell of a lot lighter. Maybe try Romans on and see. Front porch may not be needed.
I’ll send stuff.

ParticipantTim,
Pretty much what everybody has offered is good information. I believe you you can make most any chassis work and run up front. Get something common that is well supported with tuning info and spares. (as mentioned) Also talk to the sources of these karts and see who you mesh well with. You’ll be dealing with them, hopefully for years to come and you need to have a good relationship. A large number of todays machines are manufactured by 4 – 5 big companies and built to the particular brands spec, most have very good components.
You did not mention your weight or class you are aiming at. Driver weight affects chassis dynamics. Choose something that is going to work for you for a couple of years. Spend the money now for something decent. I’ve seen too many racers getting in with a marginal package, their driving skills improve and they could be potential contenders at some point in the season. Now they need that little bit more and have to go spend the money for a current package in addition to their original purchase. Should have just bought a potential winner in the first place. Plus resale is better if you decide it’s just not for you. Most who say they just want to get something for fun eventually end up keeping up with those guys who used to “pass like they had turbo’s” and when they can hang with the more experienced drivers want to learn racecraft. There is nothing like wheel to wheel competition in my opinion.
If you want to forward me an contact email. I’ll send you some files that you can mull over while your getting this fire burning inside of you. I can forward excellent information about chassis set up, driver development, tuning etc… But give me an idea of what class / classes your thinking about and I’ll make it more specific to you.
Finally. You may not need an extended porch, depending on your proportions. 6’1″ is not that tall. There are a lot of racers out there who adjust the pedals and race a conventional chassis. Mike Jansen is quite a bit taller than you, and performs pretty well. If you’re just tall and have a short torso but long legs, you may opt for the extention. If you’re average in proportion, there are a lot of things you can do to make the kart comfortable and handle. (shorten the steering shaft, wedge the steering wheel, tilt the column forward, lay the pedals forward etc… About balance; the seat is the most important tuning component in the kart. That is why your body proprtions are important. If the seat is not in the correct spot, it will never handle correct and you’ll not have the fun you should in karting. It will just lead to frustration for you. Your forward and aft Cg are typically offset by the weight of your legs ahead of Cg, countering the seat being slighty positioned aft of standard mounting. I have some dimensions for the Crg / Gp seat mounting if needed for comparison. We’ve also learned that tall drivers respond well to a$$ forward / shoulders back, in a slightly more reclined attitude than standard, keeping the rear more free. Tall drivers tend to transfer a lot of weight and sometimes too much weight. We’ve seen some that look like a catamaran with the inside tires several inches off the ground in the turns. While this is great for stunt driving, it is not the fast way around.
Respond, Pm, call or whatever. I’ll hook you up with some info.
