You want that valve to pop out at 7500 RPM, period. Sticking valve creates a lag right when you get the rpm to make it come out. once it comes out (non engineering talk to follow) then the engine exhaust is different and this makes the HP and torque to continue upward (versus the jr engine that doesn’t have this ability)

    Capeesh?

    Dennis,

Last weekend I was at the Mile High Nationals and when they started the Funny Cars in the pits damned if I hadn’t smelled that smell once before. You know, burning nose, watering eyes…

Pig Pen is right. Although it was a very dirty kart he did keep that PV very clean (you should too)

BTW, it did grate that such a dirty kart was the State Champion. 😥

And I have to live with that err and his gas cocktails…

Hey Everyone I want to clarify the SKUSA release…

I was born and raised in Vegas and my folks still live there. With this in mind I’ll tell you right now that Sam Boyd Stadium is NOT on the UNLV campus. It is near the Las Vegas Wash towards Lake Meade (if you’ve flown into Vegas you’ll know what I am talking about think 20 miles away from the strip)

Anyway, if you want to stay on the Strip fine. Realize you are 30 minutes or more away from the stadium including traffic. It is nearer Nellis Boulevard and Boulder Highway. The closest hotel/casino’s would be Sam’s Town and (I think) the Sunset Station (located off the 215 freeway in the Green Valley section of town or 15 minutes away from the track, tops). If you’ve been to the NASCAR event in Vegas imagine staying at the Mandalay Bay/ Luxor/ MGM and then going to the track. I stay at Sam’s Town and it’s a breeze.

Just thought you’d like to know. 8)
Dennis, if you come to this event there’s a Sunoco station that sells “special fuel” especially for you. PM me and I’ll tell you where 😀

And I’ll have Brad work on the Sonik engine when I blow it up 8)

    To All:

I LOVE my rotax since it is pretty idiot proof and I haven’t seen one blow up (yet) Once you learn how it works and what needs special attention it is a strong and competitive engine.

I however am seriously looking into getting a Sonik next year due to my weight. Again I can only eat so much tuna and chicken breasts and even then i am coming off the scales at 397! I therefore am giving up 12 pounds and 42 in the masters and senior class respectively. Getting a Sonik would be the equalizer, to me. Of course the fact that I have tested about half as much as last year wouldn’t have anything to do with the fact that I feel that I am slower this year 8)

If Brad says that people can circumnavigate the seal then shame on them. If he is going to the trouble and expense of getting certified to tear down a zit engine then hat’s off to him. I think he has all karters best interest at heart

I think all rotaxians and other racers need to realize that the Dane Buckleys, Greg Welchs; AJ Nouds, Jack Warringtons and Sam Walls of Colorado aren’t cheating but have spent many an hour testing and tuning to get where they are, period. Again we all have to step up in our endeavours if we want to be number 1. Those plates come at a sacrifice and cost, are we willing to do what it takes?

If I were in Doug Welch’s position, (even though what I think he did was right under the circumstances) it can’t be a comfortable feeling working in the karting industry and have the whispers coming. Again tearing it down is fine IF you get the engine back to me the way I gave it to you, sealed and certified with the passport intact.

Brad, enjoy the trip to SSC. We rotaxians look forward to you coming back with a diploma to rid this talk once and for all. THEN WE CAN ALL GO BACK TO PRACTICE AND RACING!

Short, sweet and to the point:

Tag (or any engine for that matter) Engine can be inspected by the local shop (I have a huge amount of respect for Brad at IMI after watching him tear down Sam’s ICC and him questioning why Swedetech did something one way and if done XYZ way it would be better, oops got on a tangent!)

Sealed motors send to the appropriate AUTHORIZED service center

Doug, running YHB’s or something as soft would get you the 1-2 second improvement(?) on field but anyone STOOPID can check out that. 8)

Who has the mould for the YHB’s to look like C’s? 😀 Joking really joking (just like Dennis’s fuel additives!)

In the infamous words of Rodney King, “can’t we just all get along?”

Once again, if you’re fast then you must be cheating. :bs:

I’ve bought parts from Shockwave and Doug has been a real help in getting my kart set up. So much that I’ve actually doubted what he’s said (I thought he was full of it, what could a shifter karting dude know about TAG class?!) Well, seeing his kids wax my a _ _ on the same rotax motor i have has made me a believer. I didn’t race Sunday but Doug let me check out his set up and gave me some additional pointers (I am taller than most racers so I feel l’m in chassis tuning by myself)

Protest? We are ALL entitled but common sense tells you that you can’t doctor a sealed motor (D. Garwood can tell you that 8) ) and that is what the rotax is, a sealed motor. What is the protest procedure? IMHO if you want to protest a sealed rotax then fine, just make sure those that protest pony up the money to send it to an authorized dealer to tear it down and bring it back to compliance, shipping included. If you ARE cheating then you pay to have your engine returned. If it’s legit then the protesting parties should pay. They will then have a clear conscience knowing that their kid got beat by a better tuned engine, chassis and driver and should serve as a wake up call. STEP UP! Nobody (to my knowledge) said the same thing when Donel bought Chaz’s kart and worked his magic at Bandemere round #1?

Doug, you have nothing to explain in my opinion. Hell, Greg got passed on the start EVERY SINGLE TIME so you still have some tuning to do for the starts! Thanks again for your advice about axles and chassis tuning. Watching your kids, Donel and a few select others means I know I have to raise my own level of performance to maximize myself and my kart if I want to be number 1.

What Doug says holds true. Keep your line and if you are on the track with the rental karts GIVE THEM PLENTY OF ROOM!

    Welcome to karting, rookie.

Great food and a nice atmosphere. Warrington, Keesling and I thought it was Da Bomb. Although if you make your own pesto you might be a little disappointed with thiers.
