ParticipantToday was a busy day down at the Grand Prix. While we were unloading the Tec-Pro barriers, we had to work around those pesky asphalt trucks!!! Not only did they pave where the kart track is going, they paved the entire parking lot with 3+” of Black gold!!! (SMOOTH, REAL SMOOTH…) With cold weather for the next couple of days, the track should cure and be AWESOME for the Mini Grand Prix as well as our race on Friday the 13th.
If you want to learn the track to get ready, why not stop on in and rent a kart for a few laps? It’s for a great cause. :sun:
Because of all the activity, I am late in posting the registration form, so if you want to e-mail me with name, address etc… (you know the drill) go ahead. Just send it to [email protected]
This weekend it’s driving to Houston to get the karts, home again, and time to trophy shop.
Stay tuned for more updates…

ParticipantI have added the senior 4 cycle class to the Grand Prix schedule. We need 10 or so karts to make a class, so please call each other and try to get the day off. I know it’s hard after Bandimere and the state races, but this should be one great time.
Thanks for your support,

ParticipantDenver Grand Prix Update.
As stated before, I was working on a exhibition style race Friday the 13th during the Denver Grand Prix. It is a go!!! :sun:
The Parking will open at 6:00am. We have space for approx. 80 – 100 teams in the paddock. If you can fit your kart, stand, gas and tools in the back of a pick-up, all the better. We are tight on space, so big trailers are somewhat of a problem.
The classes offered are as follows:
Kids karts, Junior 1, senior 4 cycle, TaG senior/masters, 80cc Shifter and 125 shifter, novice/ pro/heavy.
number of entries will determine if classes are split. The schedule so far is as follows:
8:00am- 8:30am 10 min. practice, first 3 groups.
9:00am – 9:30am 10 min practice, last 3 groups.
10:00am – 10:30am 10 min. qualifying, first 3 groups.
11:00am – 11:30am 10 min. qualifying, last 3 groups.
12:00 noon – 12:30 First 3 heat races, 10-15 laps.
1:00pm – 1:30pm Second 3 heat races 10-15 laps.
2:00pm – 3:30pm Denver Grand Prix Invitational Main Events.Enrty fee is $55.00 which includes parking, and 1 pit pass. Additional pit passes are $5.00.
I will post a registration form by the end of the week so you may print it out and FAX it to me, or you will be able to sign up on line. Those details will be available shortly.
If we can show how great the Colorado Karters are, I think we could add this event as a points race next year, and really show off karting.
Thanks to everyone that has asked to help out, keep those e-mails coming.Thats all for now…

ParticipantGrand Prix of Denver update.
We walked the location of the kart track yesterday and will be able to set it up as a replica of the actual Grand Prix track. Because of space limits, the track will be between 1/4 – 1/3 mile long. I have arranged the tec-pro barriers from SKUSA to be here, so the facility will look first class.
We have the possibility of getting space for a paddock to bring in trailers for the day. As of now, there are many details that will be worked out and then I will let everyone know the full plan. :type:
I still don’t know which classes we will be able to run, but for now we are planning on kids karts for sure!!! Friday, August 13th is the date for the race. It will be similar to the Colo. Springs event, exhibition style with attention on promoting the sport to the public. I will get out a temp. schedule with more info later.
Thanks to all that have e-mailed me wanting to help. Keep them coming! :direct
Stay tuned for more information.

ParticipantMike, You said it perfectly.
First of all, its not the number of karts that make a great race, it is a great run race that makes a great race. As I posted eariler, the whole event management made it worth every penny.
We all were impressed with AJ’s new track record during the State race, just to watch it get blown away in Fridays PMT practice. (the pro’s were knocking on the door of the 49’s) (WOW) You can’t get that feeling sitting in front of your computer.
I wish more TaGs had shown up, however, I still had the time of my life. I had so much driving time in that I decided to not race the final in the Super G on Sunday. (tired, and doing well in the TaG made the whole weekend for me).
It’s to bad the success of an event is based soley on # of entries. Just to watch the Pro teams work their magic, and watch the SKUSA ‘A’ Team run an event is awesome.
I had such a great time, we had added Oregon to the schedule.
Hopefully more people will support this type of event if we ever get one again.
I do agree that back to back weekends don’t work. It’s one expensive month. We should schedule a Pro event as a stand alone one.
Still recovering from all that kart driving,
Jim

ParticipantThat body kit is called the Phantom. You order it thru SSC Racing. It was developed in Italy using wind tunnel tests. It has floor pans on all the fairings and air flow ducts fed to the front brakes. Totally cool.
The bad news… cost. I was highly interested in ordering a set for any of the IMI or GJ races, as the speeds of the kart might be a benefit. At $800-1300 a set, NO WAY!!! (couldn’t get a firm quote at Kart Expo).
Time to sit back and see if they become even a consideration. ($200-300?)
They will work on any 2003 and later chassis.
Hope to see everyone in snow shoes and snow tires on Sunday and Bandi.

ParticipantThe Dog House should be there in full force Saturday. :argue (roger and I havin at it).
I will be testing against Jack and Mike in the lowly TaG and trying to get around in the shifter just a little bit quicker…. :wave
See you tomorrow.

ParticipantDoug,
After reading the great debate article, I have to agree. I first was behind the 395 weight simply because we were following SKUSA rules. It made it easy for everyone to at least look up what the rules were. After looking into the average weight of us 35+ geezers (in general), I have to agree with the 410 simply because the weight of the ICC karts have increased.
I know of a lot of G1 guys using the ICC. This way, both motors will be able to compete and we haven’t put anyone at a disadvantage on the track. (Off the track, back on the stand is another matter).
What are you (the series) doing about tires?
Thanks for the info on this matter.
JimJim Keesling
ParticipantBrad, The question is not why the senior/heavy guys want to run a softer tire and lower weight. The question is why does the CSC want us to run a harder tire and a heavier weight? We directed the powers that be that we wanted to follow SKUSA Rules. The amount of rule changing within CSC prior to the first start is much more than any rule changes within the organizations that you all are trying so hard not to be a part of.
2 more cents…

ParticipantHip, Hip, Huraaay for Graeme.
I would LOVE to see a East Slope track owner in a Kart RACING sometime this year so they have an idea of how the rules effect US!!!
Graeme, I’m online!
See you IN A KART SOON!!! YEA!!!
JimJim Keesling
ParticipantJeff,
Thanks for pointing that out. I just looked at the weight and saw it was the same. The only other change is the Biland listed at 375, so that should be 395, not 390. I don’t have a problem with any of this, we just need to know what is going to be.
Thanks. (Sonik @ 405?)
JimJim Keesling
ParticipantMarc,
Why are you trying to increase the weight just for the Sonik. Go to TAG USA and see what the rules for engine weights are. If you want to increase the weights for the CSC, why wouldn’t that apply to all engines?
Just wonderingJim Keesling
ParticipantDane,
Don’t be confused with the other lasers being “the same thing” as Mark states.
I bought the sniper because of its ability to laser the rear of the kart and check true squareness of the chassis, true king pin inclination and overall chassis set up and squareness, as well as compound caster, not just the front end.
The sniper was/is the only one I could find that does the entire kart with one unit. It works as well with front/no front brakes, wheels on or off.
FYI
JimJim Keesling
ParticipantGraeme,
I agree with you. Lets follow SKUSA.Jim
