Brad, JB & Stacey, why do we have to run an YHC or equivalent tire in the senior class?

    SKUSA 2004 rules version 3
    20.2.6.4 Approved Tire Compounds:

    Super G, G2 Bridgestone YHB
    Formula G1 Bridgestone YHB

The durometer specs for the YHB & the MG Yellow are 50 why can’t we use them in the Senior/heavy class?
Most people used the MG yellow last year and we had great racing, did we not?
The MG is a cheaper tire. And it lasts longer, (you can race a club race on the same set as a CSC race set )Isn?t the idea behind this rule to keep the cost lower?

The MG yellow tire is much closer chassis settings to the YHB than to an YHC. If one wanted to race a SKUSA event the chassis set up would be a little closer.

PS it seems I am the only senior with internet access 😯

Graeme, you can talk until your blue in the face about whats good for the driver, but the only way you will get anywhere is to talk about whats good for the shop owner. Stacey has stated he is in favor of the MG yellows, but he is only one vote, the problem is with the kart shops over there. By the way, how is it going with the weight changing to 395# in the senior heavy class? last I looked the vote was heavy in your favor.

you know as much as me.
JB & Brad have not posted publicly where they stand.
From the number I gathered it is a slam dunk for 395, but this is karting where politics override the masses!

Graeme, we are in favor of running the MG yellows. I talked to all the tire suppliers about the different tires and they shoed me a CIK homologation chart that had the MG yellows listed as a medium tire just like the YHBs. I will tlak to Brad and JB and see what they think. The costs for racers has got to be made affordable and this is one way to do that.

    Hip, Hip, Huraaay for Graeme.
I would LOVE to see a East Slope track owner in a Kart RACING sometime this year so they have an idea of how the rules effect US!!!
    Graeme, I’m online!
See you IN A KART SOON!!! YEA!!!

We intend to sell MG yellows for competition in all Shifter classes , all TAG classes , and expect to see a show of hands for the final weight decision for the G 1 (Senior Heavy) shifter class !
If this conflicts with your private agendas , ie: (IKF,WKA, Stars or SKUSA ), then so be it !

    Jim,

Is that a subliminal message that your track is coming to fruition?

Guys, I will make this very simple. The MG yellow is the same as the B’stone YHB. Are you guys asking for open tire? By insisting on the MG yellow, we need to open it up for the YHB. That also means that we need to open it up to include the Vega tires which will blow the MG yellow and B’stone YHB into the weeds. If we allow only the MG yellow, then we might as well make it a spec tire series for MG as none of the other tires (all hard tire componds) will be uncompetitive.

We have alway called our tire rule a durometer rule. We have used the B’stones as the tire that we will use as a base. Hard tires last longer and a racer can get more use out of them if they wish. That is why we have speced a harder tire for all the classes but the pro class. Because most of the racers need to be able to get more from their tires than a single race day.

If the yellow is in, then I strongly advocat that our series become open tire. In fact, I will insist on it.

An open tire rule would be the best situation. I agree with Doug…Vega White are better than all other tires for racing and cheaper. Open tires, open tires, open tires for all classes.

YHB & MG (MZ) yellow would be okay with me. Both are 50 shore hardness. The YHB is a Medium tire and the MZ is a hard
The Vega white (XS) are listed as 45 shore A hardness
The Vega Yellow (XT) are listed as 42 shore A hardness

If we limit the durometer to 50 Shore A, then we can have both the SKUSA tire (YHB) and the MG yellow allowed. The reason is that both the MG and the Bridgestones seem to be the popular tires in this area.

Is there any other tires that fit into the 50 or above that might be wanted?

Does anyone have a tire durometer that could be used to test prior to entering the track? And is it calibrated?

There are many threads on other websites about this same topic. I have read that some SKUSA regions have spec’d the MG yellow tire because of its cost/performance/life span.

I am only speaking for the Senior/Heavy class. Anyone else needs to get the ball rolling for their own class!

If the rules were posted earlier we would not have this last minute adjustments. And the proposed rules should be posted prior to the meeting so that gives everyone time digest them. How about this! Lets all go to the polls in November to vote for a president but we don’t know who’s running until we get in the booth! 😯

I find it hard to believe that we are talking about tires when this was decided at the meeting. I do not see how anyone will save money on MG tires when they only last one race day. YHC tires last for two race days. MG tires have increased in price to $167 retail. If you buy BS for $165 and they are good for two races then it costs you $82.5 per race. If you pay $155 for MG’s and they are good for one race then it costs $155 per race. How are you saving anyone, other than the racers who put on a new set every week anyway, money?

Brad, if you had told us about the intention to not allow the MG Yellows prior to the meeting we would not be having issue now.

I know that you can get more than 1 race on a set of yellows, you can run a CSC event on a new set and then use them for a club race or get lots of good practice time from them. I know I did that last year. Ask anyone who ran them last year if the like the YHC better.

Brad, Have you checked out the “tire wars” comparison on Kartweb.com?

Mesa County has just informed us that the new rules for the CSC series will be as follows:
Each competitor will be required to run a bridgestone on the left front only! MG on the right front,Vega on right rear and a Continential on the left rear.
weights will be blue karts 185lbs,yellow karts 560 lbs, red karts 99.25 lbs all others will run at a minimum of 1,000 lbs.
Blue karts can only turn left on Sunday and every other Thursday.
red karts can only turn right on Sunday and every other Thursday.
all other karts can not turn at all. any questions?

How about we all compromise! SKUSA and TAG rules + 10 lbs and let the MG yellows run with YHB’s. There it is settled now I feel better 😆
