The ones Home Depot sells recently switch from being made in the US, to being made in China. Ever since then they have not stayed together at all! I have some new ones I will be trying soon, and if they work I will let you know. Can’t remember the brand right now…

Haha you couldn’t not make the electric ones understeer. Come check this place out, cool track, decent karts, and a really nice facility. I’d love to see more karters come down and tear it up.

This is GREAT to hear! It is good to see all programs in Colorado elevating their game. The weekend at IMI was without doubt one of the smoothest run there since I first came to IMI in 1997. I will have to make it down to PPIR… next year.

It was. The track was about 20ft below the two freeways it sat between. The river however was also about 15-20ft below the track in its own basin. If you watch the video, the man bridge you see flooding over started at the same height as the track, with the river well below it.

I liked that track… Its probably ok because Camarillo will build a new one in its place.

Russ, glad to see you coming back out. I was just out in Indiana at a Rotax race last week hanging out with the one and only Preston Newberry, do you guys still keep in touch? We cant make it up to IMI tomorrow but may be out at Centennial next weekend. Its funny that a lot of the guys from the Skusa V1 days are coming back out of the woodworks.

    Justin,

When you had that problem what jetting were you running? Needle and clip, main, pilots/floats, air screw, float height.

Rotaxes really dont like being off-throttle. If you lifted for turn 1 and it had hesitation when getting back into the throttle that may just be a Rotax thing. Try not letting fully off the gas, or giving the engine small burts of throttle when your on the brake, or just dont lift for turn 1 😀

Another thing that could be going on is float height, if it is set too rich then it could sputter a bit as it has too much fuel in the bowl. Also if the float height is too lean then you will run the carb out of gas going down the straight, then when you go into the turn your remaining fuel will lsosh to one side of the bowl leaving no fuel for the main as you get back into the gas.

I dont think you really have to worry about lean sticking it, we have run as lean as 135 in our motors and have never had any problems. I wouldnt really ever go leaner than a 150 jet though, as the leaner you go the more power you use. You may want to try jetting the main at 155 and setting a k98 to clip 1. It will run rich enough to get good pull out of the corners, and having the needle at clip 1 will still let it rev out on the straights.

One more thing to think about is engine temp. The temp that you run the engine at will effect the tuning of the carb as the intake air/fuel will change temp with the motor. Make sure that if you try different jetting in the carb you are running the engine at the same temp every time.

Also if you call us at the shop the day after you were at the track and fill us in on what temp it was and such we can probably help you out more.

It was for sure a good race weekend. You TaG masters guys put on a great show and a great race. Hopefully the seniors were watching and taking notes on how to race hard and clean, as in masters race there was NO contact NO blocking and all smiles at the finish line. Great job Tag masters. Also a congrats to Ben for a nice clean sweep of the weekend.

Rodney, I’ll keep that in mind! We went up to Spring Creek because we figured Red Cone would have too much snow on it. As it turns out we made it about halfway up Spring Creek before we ran into too much snow. I’m sure within the next month we will try and run Red Cone, and when we do I will have to give you a call.

Hahaha. I know I go from owning an Alfa Romeo to a Range Rover, I must be crazy right? If mine had plates I would drive it to the trail but I havent had a chance to do that yet. I think we are going to take the rear driveshaft out of one and put two on a one-car hauler, with the rear tires of one hanging back on the road. We will see how it works.

We are pulling out on Thursday around 1 and will have the rest of the teams flights leaving that evening. We are excited to come out to Miller and mix it up with some of the Rotax racers out there.

Slide hammer is the only way to go. It always works on the first try and there is no headache involved.
